Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I’m assuming you’re using the “away” version of izuna, since using the cross-up version without EX (and with EX sometimes) will lose to about any mashed move?

Will do. :cybot:

Any really good Claws that play on PSN? I don’t have to mirror you as I can use other characters if that’s not your thing, but it would be awesome to have someone to learn from in-game. Hit me up with a PM or msg back. If you want to just send the invite or msg, **DaBatCave ** is the account.

I would play you Judge, since you are kinda one of my Fei coaches, but you specified “good Vega’s” so that eliminates me.

Still, if you think you can learn from a beginning Vega, I’d love to go. I would also like to see your Fei, as I’m sure that would improve my game.

I’ll PM the PSN tag.

Edit: @ Sasaki,

Thanks for the tips for dealing with cross-ups, I’ll put it into practice.

Awesome dude, I’m on now if you’re down for games. Just booted up MvC2, but I can jump on SF.

LOL at the vid Sasaki linked of DjB doing his thing. I don’t even remember watching that, but I thought it was awesome when he did a quick Focus after forcing the jab rcf block. I am sure Claw gets a lof of use from his Focus. Especially given how he pushes most of his opponents out of jab/short range and usually ends up around -1 or -2 after most of his major normal pokes (on block and some on hit as well).

Anyone make use of far s.Short for walk down pressure up-close? It’s + on block iirc, has good start-up and range and easily links to s.RH for a nice 3-hit. You can’t even crouch it.

earned my spot today on the calgary 5v5 team in the $1000 match against edmonton!! 17-4 on the day against calgary’s finest

Awesome, let us know how it goes.

Anybody care to shed some tips on FADC’ing the RCF into crouching jab? I can’t seem to get this to work. Is there a certain part of the RCF that I should be canceling, or is it just really strict timing? Thanks in advance.

Grats! Is there a league/tournament/ranking system in Canada? I’m near Toronto, and am struggling to find a sf4 scene outside of local college tournaments (bad competition for the most part, no prizes lol).

BTW, I’m back  I don’t know if you guys remember me, but I had to take some time off the forums and SF4 in general. Still playing Vega though, good times to be had.

Please visit this Vega thread guys, let’s see if we can get him buffed in time for Super Street fighter IV.

Also look at where Vega currently stands on the tier list, pathetic, right?
http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/oct/17/street-fighter-4-tiers-character-rankings/

Dont take that list to seriously. That list is based of character match ups and not character tools. Akuma is A tier because he has an answer to every situation that could be presented to him, but he is B tier on that list because he has a lot of 5-5 matches. I mean look at the list, how is Blanka higher up in the list than Akuma is?

You wont see a real tier list in this game until the FADC and juggle properties are fully explored. And that may take a while. Look at Daigo, every time you see him in a tourney you see new FADC combo’s, which goes to show how much we dont know.

vegas at the bottom but the gap between sagat and he is much smaller than you think

Just sharing another option that I find quite effective after Vega knockdowns the opponent. (I’m not good at corpsehop). I would backdash, and generally this led the opponent to think that they can just jump in after quick rise (because Vega doesn’t have good anti-air). Backdash and then df.hk so Vega’s df.hk goes under the opponent’s jump, and then I throw them as they land. Works everytime if they try to jump in. If they don’t, they block my df.hk and I have other options. It won’t work if the opponent does dp on wakeup, but I easily condition them beforehand to not do that by sitting right in front of them and wait for them to do dp on wake up and punish them. So, this is part of my mindgame with them.

BTW, I wonder if it’s just me. I find myself pretty good with anticipating my opponents’ jump-ins after their wake up, and I’ll slide or df.hk and I grab them as they land like 95% of the time. Very few opponents tech my throw successfully. I think it’s because Vega’s grab is just generally faster? My question is, my damage on them on the throw is only 120. I can’t do df.hk because that’s slow and if they dp after landing their jump, dp hits me first. Trying to figure out if I can make more damage to them than just 120, coz seriously if you guys see my plays every night, I grab people’s jump ins all the time… (Ken is the only one that I don’t do this, coz his dp comes out too fast, even my grab is not fast enough).

yeah it’s true some of Vega’s wakeup shit can be really creative. As long as you always bait the opponent into doing what you want, you can do all sorts of wonky stuff and keep punishing. Being random like that REALLY fucks people up mentally.

The RCF cancel into crouching jab is a 1 frame link. It’s very hard, I only get it about 25% of the time. I seem to have an easier time doing RCF, standing RH. (don’t have to bring the joystick back down for that one)
The beauty of RCF is now that we know on counter hit it can combo into ultra, you can use it as a long range poke and if you have some meter to spare keep comboing out of it… it’s just really demanding as far as timing is concerned. You can do great damage with RCF to c jab, c strong EX FBA or c jab c short EX / regular ST.

Also the Calgary vs Edmonton 5v5 is on the 7th of november. there’s a big tourney there as well and I think i am seeded highly because I’m 2nd in local ranbat standings. MajorCrimson who posted in the forum about challenges is also going to be there, and no doubt I’ll end up fighting him at some point or another.

Mh yeah, too bad I was disqualified at my last tourney for taking a trip to the train station.
I got away with a couple of nice and high wins in the casuals afterwards though. Only ones really cracking me up right now are good Sagats and Ryus.
I don’t understand the Sagat matchup yet. Sometimes I do really well against even pretty good Sagats who don’t fail links, but other times his TK just eats me alive.

i took a nice big break from this game lately…played a little bit the last 2 days and godamn! wtf is with all the ppl counterpicking my vega with blanka!! like every second person i play does this! in player matches no less!

wtf is with the ultra input? Sometime I get an ultra and sometimes I get an ex.fba with the exact same input. I turned on the input display in training mode to see what was going on. This is the exact same input I’m seeing on the screen for both moves

It seems like the game pretty much does whatever the fuck it feels like doing. Sometimes it feels like doing an ex.fba sometimes it feels like doing an ultra. Anyone else notice weird stuff like this or have an explanation?

You wanna hold it at the second db for a very brief moment before moving it up to upback. See if that helps you bit.

KittyConCarnage,

I had that very same problem today. I hope Riz’s suggestion helps.

What input device are you using?

I find that the PS3 thumb analog cause me grief sometimes…

I’m on an SE stick with sanwa parts. But no, I don’t notice a difference by holding it or not. It almost seems to be situational, like depending on how far I am from my opponent or the wall or something insane like that.

Ahh goody, you’re on a stick! Then you can try it my way!
I assume you can do a standing 360? (32147+P)
Well, charge db. After you cahrge, let go of the stick and immediately to a standing 360+3K. That’s how I do it if I want it to work every time.

Here’s my Q:
Is my new avatar bad ass or what??

Yes, yes it is.
