When I try to crossover after an Izuna it seems like i always get to the other side too late even though I see in videos people pulling it off with ease. Heres what usually happens, after an izuna ill dash immediately and then cosmic heel to the other side but before i can hit c.short into ex fba i get a jab or a shoryuken in my face. is it possible to crossover any faster or is it supposed to be that way? I mash on cr. short but it just doesnt come out fast enough after i land when i crossover.
Well according to frame data, i thought cosmic heel was the df.MK, is so, that has a really slow start up time of 19 frames, and if blocked, that leaves you at a dissadvantage of -5 frames. while the df. HK has a start up of 14 and a block frame at only -1. Doing a cr.MK has another 8 frames start up, while a cr.MP has a start up 4. with that, you’re already at a dissadvantage of anywhere from 5 to 13 frames. A jab and a HP Shoyo both come out at 3 frames… so if you do the math, thats why you keep getting stuffed.
It is an effective way to cross up though, but you just have to use it sparringly. Cause if they predict it, they just jab away. Unlike Vega, you know a cross over is coming, and you cant do much, not even jab your way out.
When you c.MP->RCF, it only combos into all the hits from a particular range (i.e. right up close). The range on the first hit of the roll is not nearly as long as the range of c.MP. So even though you can cancel c.MP into the RCF, it’s not always a combo - if you don’t get that first hit of the roll, the rest isn’t guaranteed.
I think.
'Cause if it’s actually being reversaled right out of the RCF hitting… uh… something definitely isn’t right.
rattlejaw is right.
Gotta watch your distance to the opponent or it will not combo. I recommend using cr.mk to combo into RCF. It connects almost every time since the reach is shorter than cr.mp. (or is it not? not 100% sure)
ok what you need to work on is timing your attacks to be meaty, if you do know what a meaty is i appoligize for telling you again but here: a meaty is an attack that hits someone at the exact time they wakeup, one easy way to do a meaty is to spam jabs on someones wakeup. the problem your having is that shoto characters ( ryu ken sakura sagat ) all have high priority reversal attacks with invulnerability during start up ( shoryukens ). so attempting a meaty attack on a shoto ends up being a bad idea. against other characters meaty attacks are very nice. against shotos one nice strat is to fake like your going for a meaty attack. get next to them on wakeup and hit jab until they get up, then stop, then watch his dumb ass fly into the air screaming SHOOOORYUKKKEN and punish him. sorry if i sounded like an asshole in your thread but theres been way to many stupid ass threads started lately, not that your question is stupid but we have a QandA thread.
Knucklez just raped me using that “crossup” maneuver.
I felt like such an idiot because i fell for it twice…back to back…and the second one dizzied me.
Ive never played Bebop, Jarekov, Dreadz or basically anybody from SRK who uses Vega so i always thought my Vega was sufficient.
Not good, not great, but sufficient.
But after playing knucklez:amazed:
I had to ask him to teach me.
I even want to blow off the lunch date i have with my girlfriend just so i can learn from him
Thanks for the response, I tried again last night and I noticed that if i crossover after scarlet terror I land early enough to do a meaty short into ex fba. But after an izuna drop when i dash and crossover by the time i recover from cosmic heel they are up and i can’t do a meaty crouching short. I just watched knuckles vid against jbellz on youtube again and i noticed he didnt xover after izuna drop, only after scarlet terror so I’ll have to remember that.
Just charge FA to Level 3, hold db the entire time, and as soon as you recover quickly input the command for the ultra and it should connect every time. If the opponent is in the corner, make sure you make Vega jump away from the corner to the far wall or it will miss. Do not bother dash cancelling the FA.
You actually have to back dash cancle the FA or it won’t connect anywhere other than if they’re in the corner. So, what you actually do is FADC and be charging directly after you tap back twice and then the input.
You hold Mp Mk until it goes to lvl3 FA. Be tapping back right when it hits and before the animation for the dash starts be holding db. After this follow up with the rest of the input for vega’s ultra and you can hit the fa to ultra from anywhere on the screen.
You don’t need to backdash cancel the level 3 in order to connect mid screen. I connect with it mid screen and in the corner without canceling it as I find it simpler. Is there a specific distance it won’t connect at? Because I haven’t had that problem yet.
Edit: I stand corrected, well sort of anyways. You can hit like 90% of the cast mid screen without backdashing but the timing is both less lenient and it won’t even work on tiny people like Cammy. So my bad, you should always do the backdash version.
So I decided to finally pick up Vega/Claw/Balrog or whatever you want to call him, because I’ve heard a lot of people say he’s crap. Mainly my friends I breezed through the trials, no problem. But I’m having trouble connecting the Ultra. I can do the normal motion, but I cannot for the life of me do it in the reverse motion, to jump off of the side his back is facing.
its charge db, df, db, ub. just put on input display in training and see what your doing wrong. alot of times your pressing a wrong direction or letting your ub input be plain up.
When people jump in from like half screen this is a great time to fa and go for your bnb. Under pressure you can always fadc out of it. Against cammy it’s always good to throw them out to catch her at the end of her SA. It is also good against Ryu/Sagat/Ken or other fb characters, because you can FA the first FB and jump over the next and be left with some pretty good rush options. A lot of scrub players will also fall for you setting up a FA for wake up and dash cancel out when they try to dp or whatever, leaving them open for you to punish properly with a df. hk or something… maybe a kara throw. It also works pretty good on bison’s slide and works really well mxing st. rh and fa against balrog. You should definitely be using it. It’s great.
Annnnd you can hit a free ultra out of it, so why not?
