Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I do light scarlet terror, and the second after the attack comes out I’m already charging the next one. Just input the EX scarlet terror command as soon as you land and you should combo the EX version into the light one. Just keep on charging.

The trick is to hold down [towards opponent] before pressing punch. Vega will collide with the flying guy in the air, and it will register as Izuna as soon as you press punch.

Okay, a fact question and a longer question.

-I must ask this once and for all; how do you walldive to the opposite side of the screen? I have been told that it’s db~uf like in HD Remix, but that doesn’t work for me. I checked in training with input display. Not working.

Big question:

Yesterday, I began doubting Vega. I realized that I play very aggressively by default, and I began seeking Abel and Viper instead, because I felt Vega didn’t fit me. But then I rewatched some of the tournament videos, and realized that Vega IS aggressive, only outside the opponents poke range. So I have been copieng that style of jumping around like mad, spamming claw hits when close, and it’s pretty fun. But to fully learn my claw, should I jump back to my old style of keeping away and doing some walldive baits and trying to punish from time to time, so that I can get used to that until the aggressive style feels natural, or should I just do what I have seen in the videos until that feels natural?

It’s definitely db~uf. You’re not sliding it to uf, are you? You push the stick directly to uf. Not sure what else could be wrong.

Vega is a very tricky character with very long learning process. I also used to be very defensive with Vega, but as I got better and better, I learned his pokes more personally, and now I am a pretty offensive Vega, but in such a way that I will stay safe WHILE on the offense. So maybe over time, you will become more offensive as well. But there are certain characters that you have to play defensive against.
I’d hate to say this, but there IS always the possibility that Vega might not be your style. Definitely give the other 2 a try, and see which floats your boat more.

First question, it doesn’t matter how you charge. d/b, d/f, or just down. Just make sure you HOLD the direction of the wall you want to go to when you press kick. At least until you see him going to it. I’ve never had an issue with walldiving doing it that way. Besides the occasional random flipkick by accident

Second question, my Vega is aggressive. You just have to remember to mix it up. Work the focus attack into your game if you haven’t already. On occasion while doing a rolling crystal flash, fadc it and hold for the stun. Get in close and do a block string then backflip out to bait counters. Cross up with ex sky high claw as they’re getting up sometimes. The more you vary what you’re doing, the more the opponent backs off and allows you to be aggressive. A safe turtle Vega is a good Vega, but you can have some success with aggression. You just can’t afford to be predictable.

I dig what you’re saying about you doubting him though. Some of those matchups are rough, but the good thing about Vega is that on/off switch for turtling. Against some folks, you pretty much have to play that way.**

God I love you guys, thanks to the info here I was able to defeat a counter picking Blanka asshole. I hope they all give me the luxury of sitting in the opposite corner spamming electricity thinking they’ve got me beat when I have a full Ultra meter. …

Thanks for the advice guys.

This is bad. I went overly aggressive and not it seems I have forgotten how I originally played… I know that sounds weird, but I just dropped 1K BP…

I am very confused and very frustrated when playing Vega now.
You guys as long term fighters, do you have any tip on wiping your mind clean and starting from an end? Or do I have to just lose and lose and lose until everything is printed into my skull?

If I play too long and start losing too much I’ll get very frustrated and pissed off which just clouds my gameplay and makes me worse.

Yep, same here. The best cure for that is to just turn things off and take a break. I’ve tried to “play myself out of it” but that usually only results in more losses and more frustration.

I just suffered from that these past 2 days, man the things I’ve lost to. … So I had to take a hiatus for a day or two (yet I’m playing right now). Moving Claw from my secondary to main required a lot of mental and play style shifting, but I love it though. Now to defeat rushdown Cammy(old Main). …

STANDING MEDIUM KICK

as good a spacing tool as this is, i feel its really underrated… unfortunately i forget its his longest reaching normal attack and its quick… i rarely see anyone including myself incorporating this into their game…

am i missing sumthin to why its not use as much as it should be?

I’ll use it to poke but that’s about it.

I’ve recently started using slide to get under jump ins, if they’re too close to backlip away then slide seems to work pretty well. They’ll end up behind you and then you just flip away (while charging for FBA) to get some distance so they can’t jump in spam you into oblivion in a corner.

Also, thank you. I figured out the opposite wall walldive. It was to HOLD DOWN the directional key.

Quick question for anyone that knows: Does Vega’s Ultra actually get beat by anything? I’ve never ran into any problems with it, but I was thinking about it last night and didn’t know the answer. It seems like it can go through just about anything though…

Mine got beat by Ryu with an EX DP which I’m sure he did on accident since he was whiffing them anyway to keep me from wall diving on him. I’ll make sure to note anything else that stuffs it if I come across it.

Dictator can EX psycho crusher the ultra on reaction, IIRC

Vegas ultra is a punisher, I use it to punish fireballs or other random ultras.

ya… ultra <3 full screen fireballs…

still can’t get consistant execution though…

No one mentions Vega’s off the wall jump which i think is a nice secret move. Its fast with good range so it can be quite unexpected.

Anyone use vega on the FightPad?

i just got it yesterday and im not sure if its me not being used to it or if its just bad for vega. [dont tell me just get stick]

its weird cuz i could do FADC -> ultra combos with other char. on it but cant do shit with vega…
