Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Yes it is.

I earned a rage-quit yesterday by pulling that out against a Gouken player. =D

You’ve got another setup a bit less risky, which should be izuna drop, whiff HK-ST forward U1. =)

Sounds neat.

Is there a video demonstrating this?

I haven’t, I just learned it few days ago from Rugalitarian.

PS : btw, it’s not cMK it’s HK-ST, my bad. o=)

Hey, one of my friends has been using Vega lately and I am getting destroyed. In particular, any time he uses Vega’s super, I can’t find any way to avoid getting hit or grabbed by it. Is there a legitimate way to get away from his super, or do I just have to take it? I tried searching this forum but the word “super” returns a billion results lol.

If it helps, I use Ibuki, Sakura, and Ryu for the most part, if there are character-specific ways of avoiding it.

Did you hit training room? Cause it is very easy to escape that super. It is the worst super in the game. Mashing any invincible move will escape it. Ryu and Sakura’s DPs. Don’t know which moves of Ibuki are inv. but I’m sure doing a neckbraker will escape easily as she slides fast.

I was going to try training room, but I can’t really mimic the way Vega can change his trajectory on reaction to see whether or not certain things would work. If I had someone in the room with me I could see whether or not things like neckbreaker would work if Vega reacts to it.

Ibuki’s EX upkicks have invincibility, but they seem kinda slow to startup and I don’t always have meter with her. Sakura’s regular DP has little to no invincibility, and her EX DP recovers so slowly that I wouldn’t be surprised if Vega can punish it even when his super whiffs lol. Are you sure a regular Ryu DP works? I thought I was grabbed out of the MP and HP version before, but maybe the invincibility wore off.

I’ll try some of these things next time and see what works, I’m getting tired of taking 400 damage for free lol

Just anti-air, man : cHK, bMP, sHK or njHP would do it fine.

If you’re at wake-up, I don’t see another escape than invincible moves. And moves with a lot of invincibility, 'cause if he crosses you up you’ve seen that regular DPs were insufficient. =)

Backdashing (in the right direction) could work due to the invincibility frames, but then you could eat one claw strike or two. ^^

Hello, I picked up Vega right after Evo has ended and there’s a couple things that’s been bothering me and can’t quite find the answer. I’m used to characters having certain properties across the board and Vega doesn’t seem to have these.Since this is kind of the first time I visit my own character section on SRK, I’m pretty willing to learn the most I can. Feel free to set me straight about somethings or give me certain beginner’s advice, I’ll be very open to it.

After landing a throw, it felt like there was no way or time to setup a safe jump. What’s the best thing to do after a throw? Get the spacing wanted? I just feel like I’m wasting knockdown pressure.

I’m used to characters having a dedicated anti-air normal/special, but I looked at his hitboxes for moves that look like they could be used as anti-air (IE roundhouse) and they aren’t that crazy. It feels like everything will trade at best and I’m a bit struggling to figure out how to properly anti-air. Should I just air grab everything?

What’s also the downside to losing the claw and the mask in a bit more specific details. I’m just unsure as I heard the mask increases damage taken and the claw reduces range/damage.

Other than that, feel free to give me any advice a new vega player can use. I’ll read the Vega beginner guide in due time, but I’ll take any quick tips at the moment.

Stickies will answer these questions. Search for the safejump guide Joz wrote. Dunno if its been stickied yet.

The only quick tip I have is that there is no quick way to be good at Vega. Know your frame data, practice your spacing fundamentals, get deep into matchup theory, and spend a lot of time in the training room.

Jacked up the quote, stupid phone.

Well right now, I’m kinda solely focusing on practicing whiff punishes. With his movespeed and range, it’s the only thing that I know Vega excels at and part of what gave me the appeal to him. I’ve been playing a friend of mine and made him rage a few times because he does not understand jack shit of that. So it’s pretty cool.

There are a lot of good setups for whiff and back dash punish. C.mp has such amazing range and easily cancels into ex.Fba.

Can you Cosmic Heel cross-up anyone but Chun and Akuma? I read that you couldn’t but my friend wants to know if you’ve found anyone else since then.

Not that I know of yet

Figured. Thanks!

Best whiff punish to start with IMO is CH to ST. Get that down and you’ve got a good meterless punish.

For footsies cMK, cMPxxEX FBA is your standard BNB. And if you’re quick with identifying counterhits… cMK, U2 or cMK, cMK, cMPxx EX FBA (EX FBA only works on standing opponents IIRC)

Anyone has got the feeling that KKK flip isn’t invincible from the first frame ?

I mean each time I have tried it (or another opponent did) during an attack hitting me at the very first frame of my wake-up, I get opened just like if I had pressed a regular normal button. I’m the only one, or others have noticed the same thing ?

it’s not reversable. so if you press a button nothing will happen on meatys. however it is invincible from the first frame

Capcom devs must have been afraid we could have some use of it. Thankfully, they fixed that. -_-
