Vega Match-Ups Thread: I Only Understand the Pain of Being too Strong and Beautiful

why do these turds think jump in combos are bnb?

You played really well bro. This is why when I stun people tho I usually go clawless and do a jump in cr. mk into target combo into whichever finisher I need. I think you could have even done a jump in hp - > hp -> vskill with claw and sealed that first match.

Oh I know the combos I just fucked up royally.

So laura question, lately I’ve been playing ones that seem to do their normal pressure string and that leaves them at a decently hard distance to AA them. With claw on I usually end up trading cr.HP, and the timing seems tight for other stuff. Should I try and slide under or is there something I am missing with the AA game other than nj.mk or air throw?

TLDR: after laura’s pressure strings I’m getting shit on by brainless jumps because of angle of attack.

Hmm… You could try standing fierce in Claw, or even just a standing jab in either stance - even try V-Skilling her jump-in attack. If you have the meter to spend, you could time an EX Barcelona really well.

If those jumps are at range where you at least trade with cr.HP, st.HK might hit her and get you Crush Counter. But if it seems too hard, don’t get too greedy and just slide / dash under. Just escaping her pressure is a win and you can start neutral game again.

Found that you can st.hp between the two hits of nash’s EX sonic scythe if you block it, so if he tries to ever to it on wake up (or drops a combo) we can get max damage If he doesn’t have V-trigger to cancel it and mix us up, and we cannot st.lk between vtrigger and lights

Ok…

How the fuck can you punish Vega? I just get bodied worse than I ever have. The guy using Vega just kept attacking the entire two rounds, and it seemed like he had no recovery time on ANYTHING he did. It was absolutely ridiculous.

I figured I’d ask Vega players since you all would most likely know more information about his recovery frames and whatnot. I’m not angry about losing so badly, just intrigued at what Vega can do if you don’t know the matchup well.

Are you getting beaten by offense-focused or defense-focused Vegas? If they’re offense focused, just keep your anti air and blocking game really strong - watch out for tick command grab in his nails stance. If they’re defensive, be very careful with any fireballs you may be throwing, and try to find that sweet spot where he can’t antiair - he has a hard time anti-airing crossups.

With either playstyle, the most surefire way of dumpstering a Vega is getting him in the corner - he has no reversal, no wakeup, and both of his V-Reversals move him backwards (further into the corner!) and basically his only option is to jump out. Keep your oki game strong and Vega will never leave that corner.

What moves in specific are giving you trouble? Barcelona dive?

read frame data, use training mode

He was VERY offensive, and he rarely took to the air. He kept doing his roll move, and then when I would try to punish that after blocking he would hit me with normals. He had what looked like a heavy punch attack that hits twice (which I wasn’t able to punish), and then he would continue with normals that incorporated his claw switch stance change, or the roll move again with continued pressure.

I played Chun Li, and I was able to EX Spinning Bird occasionally for breathing room, but he would do the roll move again just to get right back on top of me.

USE TRAINING MODE

All of Vegas rolls are unsafe even the EX version. His heavy punch target combo is also not safe. And poke him out if he switches stances.

Uhh, Vega’s EX roll is only -2 on block. That’s pretty safe save for a very few reversals.

HP into stance chance on block can be safe based on if it was claw or barehand.

No it’s not, you can’t even frame trap with that. It just means you don’t get punished on block, but you can’t do anything else afterwards other than block.

What, it’s safe because there is almost nothing in the game that punishes -2 (what supers do, actually, are there any?)

It’s not + so you don’t get pressure, but it’s safe

Safe as in you don’t get punished for free. Unsafe as in, you can’t do jack shit after. You can’t frame trap, can’t press a button, can’t do another special, can’t do super… All the opponent has to do is press a button that’s actually safe for them and you’re stuck in a frame trap. Only time you’re safe is if you have a stock of v.reversal, then you can flip out and possibly punish whatever they throw out after.

It’s still not a good idea to throw it out just because it’s only -2, you’re point blank at that range and stuck dealing with meta game after. Always better off not doing it unless you hit confirm into it.

Ex roll also pushes half the stage on hit or block, so if you need space behind you or got something started in the corner I think it’s worth it to use it, even in block string, to get some space behind you. Stuck in a block string >> stuck in the corner vs a lot of characters

On block the lk one is -6 so a Simple jab into special string can shut that down. On hit, Vega can actually frame trap with a cr lp to get another roll. So block and bide your time until you get an opening. Moonchild is right though. Ex is safe but just barely. Use jabs to push him away. If he has no claw you have the distinct range advantage. Cr mk is a pretty good answer. Mount as much pressure as you can to force a v reversal to negate chances of v trigger.

How to fight against Chun Li?

It is so hard to get near her and once near she does the instant-air lightning kicks into c.lp to push me away and repeat the instant-air lightning kicks. From far she will fireball and st.lk to AA any opponent that gets near. Meaties get stuffed by her ex.spinning bird kick (not spammed reversals but she only does it when she see my vega start up a meaty attack)
