Vega Match-Ups Thread: I Only Understand the Pain of Being too Strong and Beautiful

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tSFAPaSvLc

Hey guys, some kind dude uploaded a compilation video of some of my ranked matches from a few weeks ago.

In it I fight Smug, Cool kid, Alucard, Sabin, and FluxWave, a Canadian Mika.

I don’t win all of them lol. But he knows me from my SF4 days and was keeping track and decided to upload them. =)

Figured I’d post them here for science. enjoy

I had this set with a friend. Lol the Vega vs Birdie matchup is sooo one sided. Hopefully the people that get beaten by birdie players learn one thing or two from this short set.

Savage. LOL.

I was having a run yesterday where I dont know why, but all my buttons were hitting, my combos were flowing, I could do no wrong. Then I played today and fought for every inch of points I earned. I almost wish I didnt stop playing yesterday while that was happening. Ohh well.

The guy just quit with one match left in the set?..that is not good sportmanship
That was some nice Claw on Birdie violence right there…i definitely feel Vega has a clear edge in this match up…meaby 6-4…and i was ready to call Birdie broken when the game was released…once you learn to react to his stuff is Vega’s match to lose…which is why this was so frustrating to watch

My countryman Trussy made it to winners final in a CPT event in argentina …see minute 10 for some vintage Trussy action with Mike Ross in the commentary in winners semis…then he run into a wall with a Nash player and was eliminated by a Birdie in losers finals…clearly wasn’t very familiar with the match up…Birdie is a problem for agressive go go go go mix-up oriented Vegas…you need to slow it down a notch and only rush down once you have the drop on him

Reading the comments in that stream was aggravating. Really? Birdie cant anti air? Vega players suck? Tell us how godly your Ryu is. smh

Stream commentaries in general rank higher than you tube comments in the “makes me lose faith in the human race” scale…i imagine most of those people are like 13 and are just trying to get themselves noticed and say whatever racist nonesensical bullshit first come to there minds

Hello fellow Claw players, wanted to know your thoughts on a couple of matchups:

Alex, having troubles against him, I go claw for the matchup but having a hard time figuring out the ranges for the normals. Also, what can I punish as Vega? When I block a heavy/medium chop I go for simple jab jab roll combos to get some space between us. Not sure what else can I punish, I try to stay at Cr. strong range to avoid power bombs.

Also, Guile. Walking forward is my strategy for this match but I’m wondering if claw or clawless should be the way to go. If I have him backed to a corner I go clawless and start pressuring.

clawless against guile imo. Walking forward is much stronger when you can link a counterhit s.LK into cr.MP/s.MP and cancel into rolling M, you are left +2 on hit, or even expend a bar and do a rolling EX and you will have huge frame advantage, unlike claw-on s.LK > cr.MP which leads to nothing. If you will use claw you will be fishing for s.HP > claw shift combos or s.HP > slash > dash forward but s.HP has like 6 frames more of startup than s.LK sooooo…

s.MP with claw on is decent but s.MP > s.HK target combo confirm is mucchhh more efficient at winning, despite the worse range. Guile normals are *** so you wont have a lot of trouble out footsie’ing him with clawless vega unless you run into his fireballs without blocking.

Or you can trade with V-skill. I’m no Pro, but it seems to stem the flow of hadoukens If I trade a couple of those.

no, vskill is useless agaisnt nash. It works against Ryu and Ken though.

Worthless against Chun Li too.

I saw Flash use vskill at SummerJam to punish predictable fireballs at the end of strings from Chun similar to how it’s more commonly seen against Ryu or Ken

No way, if you try and abuse the v skill it’s worthless but if you use it sparingly with the claw on on reaction you can get really good mileage against any character

It’s not like a 10/10 move or big matchup pivot but it’s a tool you will suffer from neglecting

Any character except Cammy… She can punish with cannon drill from max range. Works really well against Zangief and Birdie though.

you can reaction trade slide with slow fireballs, and you’re plus frames

I’m done trying to meaty in reset/back rise/quick rise situations using the MK buttons. Can’t tell you how many times I get counter hit by 3 frame jabs on wake up - cos cr.MK is either too slow or there aren’t enough active frames in it. Yes it’s my fault for not timing it exactly right but c’mon - characters have different rise animations and some rise earlier than others.

I’m gonna start using cr.MP instead. Comes out in 5 frames…3 active frames. Much easier to work with I feel. I’d rather get less damage than get fucking KO’d cos I mistimed my cr.MK.

Personally I feel 3 frame jabs shouldn’t even exist in this game. The throw game is bad enough as it is unless you’re Bison/Ryu/Ken/Chun…try throwing someone who wakes up with a jab…you’ll get counterhit a bunch of times.

Seriously playing againt a Juri player i got thrown like every time cause i was pressing cr mk too soon or to late…i had to start doing claw mp which only leads to about 100 dmg but at least i know i can hit with it pretty much every time

Go into training mode, set dummy wake-up to random, set dummy to wake-up with 3 frame jab, successfully hit your meaty 100 times in a row. If you mess up, start over.

Forget 100 times in a row. I thought it would take me a few months to get it down…that I could react based on their wake up. It’s hard to be consistent with the medium kicks Vega has. Slow and minimal active frames= you’re gonna get counter hit sooner or later. Or maybe it’s just the 8 frames causing all these crappy wake-up jab “comebacks”

Would be easier if we had something like Necalli’s st.LK or Chun’s palms…loads of active frames to ensure you don’t mess up the timing.
