flash metroid gets into a lot of trouble with ex roll i’ve noticed. if they block that shit you’re in as same a position as if you block some of their pressure moves, at -2. it’s not really worth beating fireballs
i seen him do it against julio and honestly v-skill at that range would probably work
edit: and yeah flash had v-trigger
you can beat a fireball with v-skill and combo into v-trigger off it. way better than ex roll. and obvs if they block the v-skill you’ll be unsafe but v-trigger makes it safe
unless there’s a gap between the hits like non-meaty slide to v-trigger has, cause ken was in v-trigger and couldn’t v-reversal it.
Another option that i think is under explored against fireballs is EX Ase…at least against slow fireballs (you are too far to sweep Laura but you know the fireball is coming…or Guile/Chun throws fireball and confidently walks behind it)…the first hit of EX ASE is a proyectile…the second hit hits pretty far and does 100…admitedly at 12 frames start up is not very fast like most things Vega has it most come from a read and not a reaction…the good thing is that is pretty safe…EX ASE is -3 but leaves you too far away to be punished with anything as fas as i have seen…it punishes fireballs with recovery and if the opp blocks then you at least are past the fireball wall and now find yourself at a range where you can work
i have a hard time justifying the meter for it though…
EX Roll at the same distances will punish the same shit, assuming you’re doing it on reaction
I’ve always used EX ASE to stop approaches behind fireballs like what Chun will do to you in v-trigger. it’s super good for that cause yeah it leaves you in a far better position than EX Roll would if they blocked it. it’s pretty much a free st. mp if anyone whiffs a button after it
It’s good for combos on crouching opponents when you hit people with the claw on and it’s not a counter hit.
flash metroid loses 0-3 to knuckledu R.Mika at summer jam. When will Vega players understand that we need a secondary character to deal with the braindead stuff?. Pls do yourself a favor and pick up Ibuki/Ken/braindead mirror to deal with Cammy/Laura/R.Mika and leave Vega to the actual traditional SF matchups.
I was just told by a guy I spar with on PS4 that Laura isnt a bad match up for Vega. Then confirmed it by checking the internet and eventhubs confirms it. lol.
I dont even have to zone out Gief as much as you have to for Laura. But whatever.
I had a Laura player I found in battle lounge tell me the same shit lol. Laura is probably his worst matchup but it’s hard to say for sure when Mika exists as well. I had to beat a Mika who beat me in my pool at EVO to make it out of my pool because he lost to Kbrad. Let me tell you it wasn’t fucking fun at all.
Any advice for the Chun matchup? I did pretty well in all of my other matches at Summer Jam but Ludovic demolished me and I didn’t know how to approach his high level Chun
Ehm i dont think necalli is a bad match. After of understanding more the matchup and watching some high level play i believe chun-vega might be 5-5. Im more worried about nash/ryu/ken as fireball characters than i’m about charge based fireball characters (chun, guile, fang). And mika laura cammy are also terrible for vega. So the three characters that we struggle against are ryu, nash, ken, and then the better drop vega for a secondary or you will lose, braindead trio of laura/mika/cammy.
The most abusing aspect of chun is her tk legs. Chuns almost always fuck the tk making it a little higher than it should be, you can s.lk chun and get a trade if that happens, getting out of pressure.
Also i would recommend going clawless 100% of the time since the normals are much safer and more damaging when you manage to break through chun defense. Also when she is in vtrigger, run.
You can punish ex legs with vreversal and bait her anti air for extreme damage. Vega clawless cr.HP is amazing agaisnt chun tk legs and her regular jump is super slow so anti airing her is not very hard if you are focused.
I have not played a high level Mika in a while…but the garden variaty Mika i can handle…i’ve seen the blender enought times that i can make educated guesses to scape from it before taking too much damage…is a lot harder to find good Lauras…Laura has a harder time getting in but once she does her blender is much more violent…is hard to process what is going on and you are already dizzy
Even though Vega keeps falling short is nice to see Flash consistently getting to top 8…it shows that Vega is much more viable than his SF 4 counterpart…some chiness player made it all the way to grand finals and even beat Gamerbee to reset the brackets in TW fighter last week…but then proceeded to lose the next set in a lopsided fashion…Vega players keep scratching glory but falling short…i imagine as they are sponsored players and are not playing just for fun both Nemo and Flash will pick up secondary characters for the bad match ups eventualy
Thanks! I definitely have to work on capitalizing on aa’s against Chun and I have a habit of sticking with claw in most situations until I stance switch from a combo so I’ll have to see how that matchup is entirely clawless. Does the v-reversal only punish ex legs and not the normal ones?
I’m not sure about being clawless 100% of the time in that match, but then again I suck at that matchup in particular. From my experience, you can bully her with st mp once you can be dominate in your ranges. st mp claw on is extremely difficult to whiff punish too.
Laura gives me fits. Always. I dont know if its mental or not, because sometimes I can put up a decent fight, then once the blender gets going on high, I crumble. Ive played so many Mikas as well that I can do my best to stop her abuse for a short time. I was talking to my sparring partner some more and he played Laura. Was bodying me bad, but he insists she is just a gimmick and is beatable. I said try playing a character with no reversal, no V-reversal, no DP against Laura and let me know how that goes.
For now I feel Bison is giving me fits lately. I dont know why. That slow MFer just does safe upon safe upon safe and doesnt open up. Then takes to the sky like its his. WE ARE THE HIGH FLYERS DAMN IT!!
@serpentaurus cr.HP is way too slow to react to Chun’s TK legs when she’s in your face. I even have trouble reacting with cr.MP (clawless) sometimes.
Chun matchup is plain hard and you have to block most of the time cos her buttons just eat up everything Vega has (especially her back st.HP buffered into legs).
Her only weakness is that she needs meter for ex bird kick ( I don’t think she even deserves a true reversal cos V-reversal is enough). Not to mention she typically builds enough meter even when getting hit, for ex bird.
I don’t doubt that she’s the best character in the game.
Yeah I’ve found the most success with claw mp as well. It’s just that one set against Ludovic made it seem like it may not be as effective in high level play but I could be overreacting and need to work on spacing and timing
