Vega Match-Ups Thread: I Only Understand the Pain of Being too Strong and Beautiful

I mean, they surely beat the ex divekick at that exact angle with perfect timing. Are you good enough to land that one precise timing considering that cammy has two divekick speeds and the option to just land with her air normals?

I believe only a computer or a very focused genius is capable of reacting to the three options and do the timing/spacing of the anti air in perfect fashion, consistently. I have trouble deciding which anti air to use for certain ranges of basic jump ins, not to mention the monstruocity of a problem that is anti airing cammy. It is not just “hey guys, this option beats cammy ex divekick”. There are many variables playing in real time you need to execute well to be sucessful.

claw off cr mp beats her dive kicks. Have to be on point with the spacing though.

Won a local last night and had to beat two strong Cammys. Honestly IMO the best way I was finding to circumvent dive kicks is to either walk forward a bit and have her hit it higher and punish (riskier option), OR just backdash and punish landing recovery. EX ASE has a decent hitbox and I hit a Cammy EX dive kick with it too, 2nd hit doesn’t seems to juggle though.

You need to be able to pay close attention to their meter and dive kick patterns/habits obviously for any of this to work.

Overall backdash seemed like the most consistent answer cuz if they didn’t dive kick, yeah I gave up some space but I can easily walk forward to regain it(you also aren’t obligated to V Reversal to reset to neutral if they DO dive kick ) And if they did do regular/EX dive kick, cr. mp into MK/EX roll punished the landing recovery when it whiffed every time.

Also something random I discovered during the tourney: V-Skill follow up beats Lightning Legs lol. It’s weird though.

Also this my first ever SF where I’m playing this character. Despite his problems I’m LOVING him and feel like I can handle anyone I play against at this point (except maybe Necalli and grapplers but that’s just a me thing haha)

Yeah I remember trying st.hp because someone said it was decent against divekicks and yeahhhh no. Not even a little bit.

Is all of the matchup info still going to be compiled at some point? It’s not easy scrolling through 17 pages to see if a matchup your looking for has been discussed

Agreed - just because something works in training mode doesn’t mean it’s worthy in the heart of battle.

Long story short, her ex dive kick isn’t unbeatable all the time.

Nemo lost to a random jap cammy player at minute 24:21 lol why are we so free to Cammy

Osayu isn’t a random Cammy, he’s the best Cammy in japan. he’s Tokido/Daigos training partner.

Does anyone have videos of themselves/others playing long sets vs Guile? I would like to see how people approach Guile in a longer consistent set but can’t find any videos that are long enough to see how the players adapt

Ill try to get some of my latest matchups, wins and losses, together in the morning.

Great! looking forward to it.

Also can anyone shed some light on how to kill v-reversals? Ryu’s V-reversal in particular is hitting me much more than it should, and once I get hit by it I lose all momentum and usually get come backed after just 2 wrong guesses, it happens so frequently I feel like it’s time to find a solution.

I’m aware you can grab him out of it, and in some cases jump but I can’t find a reliable way in practice mode and it doesn’t seem to work properly either, the cpu doesn’t do v-reversal on most of the moves (advantage?) so it’s quite hard to try and know for sure.

It feels like I’m missing something bigtime and it’s making the game harder than it needs to be. I’m wondering if you peeps have any reliable setups to bait the v-reversal or is it just like a react thing? I usually get caught in the middle of my hits, even when I do st.mp clawless I can get punished with a v reversal hit in time so it feels like I have no control of the situation at the moment.

As promised. Some wins, some losses. After watching them again I see flaws in my game play, and I have been trying to keep my feet planted more along with less sliding. Patience is key.

As far as Vreversals, I try to block after a blocked attack if I know they are coming. I dont know they are coming though until I see the opponent start doing them.

I just watched your vid, would have liked to see a longer set vs 1 player and you only, I feel like in those quick ft2 scenarios you don’t really get a feel for your opponent. But still it’s nice to see the matchup from a different perspective.

I realized when watching that the dive if done quickly really messes with his flash kick. In some instances it turns around though which I don’t think is intentional by the player and it just does it automatically if you delay it slightly. Also I just remembered he has no 3f move so maybe I should apply much more pressure once I do get in.

Another idea I had from your vid, doing a raw dive towards the opponent when throwing booms might actually work better than doing it to your back, he’ll probably switch block sides/move and let go off his charge for a second, but even if he does the flash kick I think you can bait it by holding towards the wall and maybe get a rose punish or slide even if the recovery isn’t too bad.

I wish we could use the dlc characters in practice mode without having to buy them. It’s just too hard to learn the match up if you have no one to play with.

There was a lot of talk about how to fight Camy and Laura lately…this weekend Flash got into top 8 in a tournament in Puerto Rico…at around 2 h 29 min Flash runs over a local Laura player…at around 3 h mark Flash beats K-Brad’s Cammy…at around 4 Hs 15 min Doomsnake a local vega player and one of the top online Vega players beats a local Cammy…at 4:49 Flash has a really close set with Will2 pack’s Laura and loses but it came down to the last round (the set ended 3-2 for Will 2 pack)…he also lost to Wolk throne (#1 Laura online and current # 1 ranked) last week in the grand finals of an online tournament actually beat Wolkthrone to reset the series and lost the last set 3-2 (again down to the last round)…he really seems to have been puttin some work in the match up

they all still lost to wil2pac laura which is vega worst match. And Flash lost to Julio, again (third tournament loss to the same Ken i believe). Kbrad might had have a bad day, who knows, he beat Flash 3-0 in a previous tournament.

This is only more proof that Vega loses hard to Laura, Ken and Cammy, AND if more people used Ryu well at USA Flash Vega would also be suffering the matchup.

…i have had sucess landing it on Chun-Li (slow jump in)…Karin (Very high jump arc)…and R Mika (also very high jump arc)…i have had very little luck landing it on Ryu and Ken…as i mentioned before is hard to land it on reaction alone…you kinda have to bait them into jumping or look for it when they are likely to jump…is also good when you have conditioned your opponent to try to air to air you pressing buttons early…if you win a couple of air to air exchanges they will start pressing buttons really early…just wait for them in the ground and blast them out of the air…look for them to try to jump out of the corner…or when those ackward pauses when both players are crouching right in front of each other you know they are going to try and exploit Vega’s weak anti airs but jumping right over your head…

Yeah the only guy I chat with and play in BL doesnt use Guile much. I used him for a little bit so that helps with the match up, but my gameplay was different. I will admit I was a turtle Guile and sometimes offensive ones throw me off.

For sure no 3F move, so once your are in, stay in and keep the pressure. Even jabbing clawed or clawless MP in there makes them guess. Throwing an overhead in there helps and Ill dash throw or walk up throw to get them to react. Sometimes they take the bait, sometimes they dont.

Cyberfish, you can combo a slide from the juggle of a traded EX FBA.You can also start the BH target combo with a Cr.MK.

Didnt know about the slide juggle. I know about the cr MK, but I sometimes get surprised when something works so I just finish it. Been brushing up more on technique and patience along with optimizing as much damage as I can.

You can also fallow up with another EX FBA after the juggle…don’t know if is worth it…meaby if it will give you the round
