I thought that was patched out of the game…nice…that sounds like something i ought to add to my game
v-skill works really well against Guile when spaced properly.
By the way…and not that it is too useful but the upper body invincibility of v-skill also seems to prevent getting thrown…yesterday a ryu player dashed in while i was v-skilling (i tried to predict a fireball) tried to throw and the throw animation when right through Vega…he got hit by the v-skill attack after…(not very useful cause the invincibility only starts at fame 7 but interesting)…also if you are reaaally close and have very good reflexes or a good read you can v-skill a fireball (without using the attack) and recover in time to punish (if i didn’t messed something up with the dummy)
how do you do that? i already knew about it but thought it was out of game…
I’m a Guile player and I play the Vega matchup all the time. What people need to understand is that in SFV Guile can absolutely be jumped in on. His AA game and boom recovery is much worse thatn in SF4, and the risk/reward for jumping is better than you think. In this game a jump in snags you 30-40% dmg, so even if thats 3 wrong guesses on your part, one right guess gets you in that ass. And on knockdown you have a huge advantage after too.
As for buttons, your timing just has to polish up, thats all. Vegas buttons are gdlk, and Guiles are ass compared to them, so if you’re losing to his buttons you just need to change the rhythm. Vega blockstrings blow up anything Guile can do. Pressure his ass all day and he has to do something in a panic.
Why are Guile’s buttons ass?
It’s still works, tokido was doing it to me also. It’s just easier to get hit depending on the situation. Work good vs meaty throws and attacks still. They just added 1 more pre jumo frame.
Compared to every other character in the game, he absolutely has the worst buttons, no question. Because Guile’s game plan is zoning and heavy hits (whereas FANG has zoning and light, fast, pestering hits). A character with heavy hits like Guile has slow, short, flawed buttons, cuz thats his balance. They all have a time and a place, and he has a couple decent ones, but he has worse buttons overall than anyone. Especially compared to someone like Vega with crazy good buttons. Guile is like Nash but with not as good versions of his buttons, but way better zoning.
Even Gief has better buttons than Guile, but again, thats ok, cuz Guile isn’t supposed to have great buttons. His damage output comes from a raw jump-in or if he gets you dizzy in the corner, and lets face it, that isn’t very often assuming good play. His combo starter is st.hp, which tosses the opponent up on CC so he can’t roll you into a long combo, and its -4 on block, so Guile really has to just get damage from boom chip and jump ins. The only button he can use for an OK frame trap is point blank st.mp, which is arguably one of the worst buttons in the game haha.
Guile is usually great in games where his c.mk is a great button.

D:
I just played a 2/3 set with 200won I’ll link it later
v-skill those st hks home boy.
I don’t do those as much online and he was slightly laggy. I can usually s.hk those drop kicks and juggle with ASE, but yeah, online I get crush countered. lol
So I checked my win rate to find that I have a 29% win rate against Bison and that shit is depressing. Apparently I have problems against Laura too. My win rate is only 18% versus her. I hear through the grapevine that Vega is at an advantage versus Bison but I don’t see it. I guess I never really got match up advice for this before and just chalked it up to Bison being a good character.
I have a 33% win rate vs Cammy because I have no idea how to deal with her dive kick. If I try to air to air it I get hit. If I do cr hp I get hit. If I jump backwards I get hit.
You can s.lp her dive kick but yeah thy match is annoying.
that’s interesting, ty, can you explain how to do it?
