Vega Match-Ups Thread: I Only Understand the Pain of Being too Strong and Beautiful

I find it difficult to distinguish nineutral jump from forward jump in time enough to slide under. Sometimes I read the jump and go for slide but far spaced jumps u clearly can’t slide under

That said, at that far range crouching fierce and standing roundhouse are the go to’s. when they’re a bit closer slide works pretty well for me.

how do you deal with Laura pressing? i had some sets yesterday with VRyu and he wrecked me, something like 15-7 :frowning:

Laura is a terrible matchup for Vega. You need to keep that bitch out at all costs. If she does lp elbows, always press st lk afterwards when you block it and check her. Same thing goes for when she does her f hp first hit. It’s -2 on block I believe. If you block the first hit and she goes for the second hit, it’s -8 on block. Also, practice meaty timing to beat her wake-up ex elbow attack. it’s only active for armor on frame 3, otherwise it gets stuffed and if you meaty it with a cr mp (claw off) she’ll get counter hit and you can go into target combo. If you’re midscreen footsies, watch out of her fireball. If you can react in time you’ll be able to slide under it and crush counter her every single time.

If you let her get you into the corner, you should put down your controller and go grill a steak or something because it’s over at that point. V-reversal doesnt work because her fireball will hit you out of the recovery if she has one on the screen when you use it.

Yeah…once Laura gets to you it gets ugly fast…the thing is…is not that hard to keep Laura out…her specials are negative on block and her only good normal has very little reach (that normal elbow move…i think is her standing mp)…you can shot down her fireball game do to how slow they are on start up…all of her ways to get in are risky and once you knock her out she only has super…i think provided both players have the same level this MU is in favor of Vega…i prefer claw on for this one…this doesn’t mean Laura is easy or isn’t dangerouse is just that she has to work to get to her sweet spot…unlike Mika that bounce all over the place and has command normals and specials that put her safely in your face

ehm… yes Laura beats Vega if she gets in but Vega has tools to keep her out and to move away from pressure after she gets in. It is 5-5 at worst imo, same for R.Mika who is even stronger when gets in.

The matchups that Vega lose IMO are Ken, Ryu, Fang, Chun, and then Nash/Guile/Sim can be super hard even though Vega has tools to deal with them.

I would argue Nash and Guile are harder match ups for us than the shotos. Slow projectiles really seem to give Vega a hard time.

Guile/Nash need meter for invincible DP, guile has to charge it, and Nash has weak defense overall. Guile vskill loses to a welltimed slide or Vtrigger, Nash ex-flash kick can be vreversal punished, regular flash kick can be airgrabbed, vega has faster buttons than them both, etc etc… AND shotos also have slow fireballs, There are several reasons why Shotos are a lil better against Vega. Imo Nash/Ryu/Chun/Ken in no order are top 4 in the game though so i might be wrong.

Nash ex kinda flash kicks is only upper body invincible

yeah i didnt feel like elaborating on this since it is common knowledge isnt it

I really need help with the Cammy matchup right now. I keep running into the same Cammy player online and he beats me every single time. Sometimes the sets are 2-1 but I just have no idea what to do in the matchup. I feel like I get pressured pretty free. I wish I had answers to Cammy’s offense.

EDIT: I beat the Cammy player I complained about in a runback. We got matched up back to back and I took it 2-1. Still, I would like to know what I should be doing anyway. I feel like I won because I started to punish more and a played a better neutral compared to the last set. I also teched those throws. Other than that idk what to do other than punish Spiral Arrow and crush counter Cannon Spike.

Punish her dps. I bet you are not baiting and punishing enough dps of her. Also the non-vt or ex divekicks are unsafe.

The divekicks are safe if they hit below the waist. Divekicks from hooligan are supposed to be no better than -2.

Just like Yun and Yang in SF3. I see.

R. Mika needs to calm down. I seem to find ones that automatically just grab me and do whatever. Even with me spamming standing lk, or lp.

If the grab is meaty (like after a blocked charged st.HK, or on wakeup), your st.LK spamming won’t do a thing. And since you can’t tech, either, you have to guess a backdash or a jump, that’s the power of command throws.

Another minor Laura thing most people probably know-- but my Vega pal didn’t-- is that she loses her fireball the second she’s hit. Not only is that good for the slide crush counter as was mentioned above, but it also makes a normal v trigger rose land and interrupt, which obviously can lead to super.

So due to the start up of backdash not been invincible in this game we don’t have an option that beats wake up dp, wake up normals and throw on a downed shoto or any character with a meterles or otherwise invincible reversal…so how do i bate a reversal on wake up?..against noobs you dash fordward and block…but more seasoned player usually don’t fall for it…or meaby i’m just terrible at selling my fake next moves cause when i do commit to try to use some normal as a meaty i more often than not get dp’ed…while playing as Guile i noticed for the most part it was easy to tell who is getting ready to block my ex-flash kick…so i would just throw or use a light on wake up…lp ase should work but other than the lp, lp ase> dash fordward lp ase i haven’t find an easy way to time and space this thing to beat a reversal

After getting set played numerous times by a Ryu player yesterday i finally bothered to check it out and Ryu is actualy -2 if he dashes after a fordward throw and you quick rise…i was guessing weater to block or to tech (neutral jump is useless against Ryu) and i was getting blow out everytime when i should have just pressed st lk

It’s better to backdash on wakeup against Ryu’s forward throw. If you mash LK you risk mistaking Ryu’s solar plexus strike (forward+HP) for a dash, and eating it, plus shoryuken and maybe CA since it’s a perfect meaty. Backdash avoids the throw, gets you out of range of st.MP, and gets air reset by solar plexus strike for 1 hit.
