Vega General Thread: The Masked Narcissist Enters The Tournament

So, little things I’ve taken from half an hour training with the character, that I was waiting to discover (maybe some of this is old news, but it was new to me xD)

  • Ex fba can be comboed easily even in the corner, unlike what I’d read, you just need to use the izuna drop follow up, and not the claw attack. This actually gives more dmg and stun too, no vtrigger follow up though =/

  • c.mk links to s.lk which links to c.lp as a pretty nice confirm from a crossup (although it needs to be really deep for a combo)

  • clawless target combo links after c.mk as well (kinda suspected this one, but wasn’t entirely sure), giving you enough time to confirm if the opp is crouching or not after a jump in or crossup

  • c.mk seems to be more or less a decent Meaty, it combos into itself, as well as into sweep, if used as a Meaty.

  • couldn’t find any other claw normals that can cancel into vskill except for target combo… Having tested clawless normals yet.

  • at any time during rolling attack you can cancel into CA, except once claw goes into the flip kick at the end. All other hits are super cancelable.

  • low rolling attack seems to have good uses as a corpse hop. Time it early you’ll be on the front, time it later and the flip kick will hop over and thanks to very little recovery you can time nice pokes for confirm on wake up. If the opp quick rises he either reversals or you’ll be applying safe pressure, with either a quick rise or back rise, I’d think (this obviously needs a lot more testing xD)

That’s about all I can think of right now, sorry if it’s old info =P

Interesting that he’s the only character in the game with 2 V Reversals. I guess to pay homage to his backfilp being his V Reversal. His KKK V Reversal seems really good. Seemed like it was able to quickly recover and allow you to block during Vega’s HK roll. Could probably easily make a medium or heavy normal whiff with that and go for punish.

Flying barcelona attack seems safe on block.

Unfortunately I’m holding off on the beta since money is tight and I don’t currently own a PS4, I look forward to seeing what you all discover though. I’m particularly interested in his claw switch pressure game and mixups. As well as his damage from “practical” combos!

Oh, lp and mp command grab work really well as his tick throw options after a c.lk, unlike normal grab, which is out of range after a single blocked c.lk.

C.lp doesn’t work for tick throwing, although the range is only marginally better than c.lk

Yeah, fba seems safe on block, but it’s really slow… I guess it’s use will depend on how well izuna drop can beat air to airs (if at all).

Claw off s.MK, c.MP, EX RCF does about 270 damage and 338 stun.

s.MK does very little pushback on block so at close range it seems a good tick for his command grab. His command grab has very little range (about standard neutral range) so you’ll need a standing medium normal to tick into it. His lights push hella far away on block.

I’m loving his st.mp it doesnt combo into anything but its such a great poke.

i think st mp can combo into cr mp (claw on)

I think that’s the general idea behind Claw vs No Claw

Claw = better pokes

No Claw = weaker pokes, more normal cancels, better mix up

C.lp > c.mp really seems to be gone… Or did I simply keep mistiming it the few times I tried?

If it really is gone, this should mean we’ll be getting the characters with all the changes from the latest build and not an outdated version this time around? =D

Didn’t think of trying claw S.mp as a Meaty, to see if it combos into anything.

@Mr . jack S.mp > c.mp? That works?

I can’t seem to get back into the beta, after having lost connection to the server. It’s also almost 6AM here in Portugal, so I’ll take the hint and hit the sack xD

Beta is officially RIP. Got 21004 message which means server is done.

Yeah I think they removed the c.LP, c.MP link. Couldn’t get it to combo one time.

Seems like we’ll get some weird hybrid update where we won’t get to play all the characters, but the characters that are in will be in their latest form.

i lost the connection too. After 30 times retrying, i’m in again! Yeah, it works!

pretty basic vega combos

aurora spin edge juggles don’t need to be on counter hit (v-trigger, ex fba and CA)

yeah, confirmed it w/ a friend. just has to be quite high; CH pops them higher so it’s easier for some of them

What are his pokes? st.MP looks meh and cr.MP is horrible.

They themselves know that XiaoHai and all the others in the tournament were fucking scrubs in SFV.
I don’t believe that they balance the game around SFIV pros that played the new game for a couple of hours.

Testing it out, both claw s.HP and claw s.HP xx switch are 0 on block.

Testing method: Recording dummy to jump ASAP after blocking, and also holding up when doing the string I’m trying to test the frame advantage of. For claw s.HP xx switch, we both seem to enter prejump frames at the exact same time. This is a useful method to get an idea of what’s advantage and disadvantage.

juggle CA can be done with fba, HP spin edge and if you hit only the the kick of the roll (the last hit)

the only attacks i could juggle after V-Trigger are CA and EX spin edge (corner only)

Here are ten things I learned from beta #2. All this was performed on a masked Vega, meaning he was at 100% health.

1.) When Vega’s mask falls off, he receives AND deals 10% more damage, just like in SSFIV onwards.

2.) Damage and stun on normals and unique attacks:

s.LP - 30 dmg / 70 stun
c.LP - 30 dmg / 70 stun
s.MP - 60 dmg / 100 stun
c.MP - 60 dmg / 100 stun
claw s.HP - 80 dmg / 100 stun
bare-handed s.HP - 80 dmg / 150 stun
s.LK - 30 dmg / 70 stun
c.LK - 20 dmg / 70 stun
s.MK - 60 dmg / 100 stun
c.MK - 50 dmg / 100 stun
s.HK - 80 dmg / 150 stun
c.HK - 90 dmg / 150 stun

F+MK - 70 dmg / 100 stun
claw F+HP - 100 dmg / 200 stun

3.) Only the target combos can cancel into V-Skill.

4.) Every normal can cancel into V-Trigger. Even c.HK during it’s earlier active frames.

5.) Claw c.LP hits high.

6.) Claw s.LP and s.HK whiffs on crouching Vega.

7.) C.MK is NOT special or Critical cancelable!

8.) Of all his normals, only bare-handed c.MP s.HP (both) are Critical cancelable.

9.) Grand Izuna Drop:
LP has the most range. EX has the same range as LP.

10.) Meterless empty jump combo:
c.LK, c.LP xx LK Crimson Terror
127 dmg / 229 stun
