His “former glory in ST” is thoroughly unreasonable though. Just playing ST Claw feels like you have a garden hose of pure power plugged into you, I don’t even want to imagine what it feels like to play against a competent Claw.
Honestly, my favourite version of Vega to this day is still CvS2 Vega. Good footsies game, usually played as the first character due to his gameplay not too dependent on meter. Specials weren’t too useful but had their uses (RC roll was like so many pressure moves very good, though). In general, CvS2 engine suited Vega a lot without being the king of cheese he was in ST, which, from time to time, I like to remind watching this:

i fish for counter hits with standing heavies all the time in sf4. its common for chun and rose… i even do it with yangs st.hp its great for that.

“glorious” is not the word I would use to describe ST Vega.
Some are, but not all. Bison’s s.hk is clearly for frame traps because it’s close range and positive on block, but Ryu’s s.hk whiffs on crouchers and s.hp launches the opponent (no followup except super) and both are punishable on block.
Nash’s f.hp is also a pretty clear crush counter designed for poking/footsies.
I was a bit wary of crush counters in this game. I wouldn’t take it that far saying “dumbest thing ever” though
But I don’t really see it adding much to the game either. The whole punish dps with crush counter things, eh, whatever.
But the general crush counter idea it seems to be “Use a shitty move but it counter hits and you get big damage” I mean…yeah sure I guess we can use that, but it’s not all that much fun. Is it really that cool for me to block a reversal mp dp from ryu and do d. fp with cammy, dash forward, s. mp, s. fp xx drill or whatever?
That almost seems like too much of a punish. Nevermind stuff I could do with v meter or super. Do we want to completely eliminate reversal wakeups? They should exist.

That’s for anti-airing, there are several moves like that, like Zangief’s crouching heavy punch. People keep saying standing heavy punch is punishable on block, but I don’t know if I believe that. It was only -4 during the beta, and crush counters have been consistently buffed. Also, crush counters build a big chunk of revenge meter now.

I would have rather them make st.lk cancel-able only on super/ex(like Gief) rather than remove it entirely, but it is what it is. But it seems like they don’t want to much reward off lights(I may be wrong).
as for the other changes, it is whatever. Quite sure some of those will be reverted, but then again I am lost as to what they want to do with this character. Seems like they do not want him to be strong.
