Good news guys. Ryu st.MP pushback has been reduced. I have been at the con and been able to do it twice on block consistently. Sometimes I could even add a cr.mp for a third hit. This was when I did it as a meat my at point blank range though. Still this wasn’t possible in the last beta so I’m assuming the pushback reduced.
Hehe I just wait for Capcom to make games I can play is all, this one is fun, 4 is not so much. I really like that crush counter on hp, yeah I think it was a counter hit only at twitchcon

Amazing tick throws into command grabs in that video. Probably the best use of Ex command throw and claw switching pressure that I’ve seen yet. Has me really hype for Vega’s unique playstyle in this.
You guys realize that the pushblock actually made you safe and not having it anymore with the same frame data means people can just mash lights or uppercut through your “blockstring”?
Ryu especially without V trigger doesn’t benefit a whole lot from being safe via pushblock. He doesn’t have the range on his normals or the safety on his fireballs to want to be safe a near character distance away from the opponent after a blocked normal. The idea of lessening the pushback on s.MP is so you can actually be in throw range sometimes and set up counter hits without pretty much having to dash up to the opponent every time. If they wanna mash jab or DP, that’s on them but at plus 2 you should be able to counter hit their jab mash or bait the DP and punish. Which MP and EX dps are usually the only ones that are invincible and now enable crush counter state on whiff.
s.MP needed to have less pushback. A positive on block move with heavy pushback does nothing good for Ryu’s frame trap game. What he needs more pushback on is his negative stuff like c.MK, fireball and sweep so he can actually poke with those fundamental tools without always being in a punish or disadvantaged situation.
You’re right in that he probably would need s.MP to be +3 on block to deal with the mash jabs, but you can always throw out s.LP or s.LK after to set up counter hits. s.MP as it was didn’t do anything for Ryu being one of his main plus normals but doing nothing to set up throws. Moving the start up to 5 frames and making it plus 3 would be ideal. Even just moving it up to 5 frames at plus 2 would be good.
Yes, those deep sky blue eyes fit him more. However, his necklace, which previously floated above his chest in the character select screen, now clip through his chest.
If I’m not mistaken though his st.MP is already 5 frame startup and +2. Was that frame data wrong? Regardless I have heard people in here say they can hit confirm a single st.MP (and go through with whatever mixup they wanted to if its blocked) without there being additional frames from a CH so Ryu doesn’t really have to fear a reversal since he could just poke with it.
I also wanted to clarify that when I said I was able to add cr.mp for a third hit I meant in a blockstring in the corner (didn’t try it as a combo). It’s probably not very consistent though but it just goes to show you that someone is listening to these requests of pushback reduction.
Ah, I forgot that claw on c.LP also hits low, so that can also be used for empty jumps. Still, that’s not the case with claw off c.LP, so that’s where c.LK comes in. It’s nice to have a more useful c.LK that can link into c.LP and presumably itself.
Also, I figured out a way to hit confirm into s.V-Trigger even though it won’t hit crouchers. Since s.HK and the s.HK in the Matador Blitz target combo whiffs on crouchers, you can use that to confirm into s.V-Trigger. If they’re crouching during s.HK xx V-Trigger, the V-Trigger won’t come out and only the s.HK will whiff. On hit, Crush Counter or not, V-Trigger connects. On block, well, at least you’re safe after s.V-Trigger. It’s not great that both those moves whiff on crouchers, but that’s the solution for poking and hit confirming with them.
Hope he gets it back. Part of the limitation with that move before was he couldn’t do it while charging Scarlet Terror/Rolling Crystal; now that he’s motion that move would have a lot more use, and give him some more creative options off a Crush Counter.
