Vega General Thread: The Masked Narcissist Enters The Tournament

That’s interesting to see that both of his target combo finish with his v skill. Is that the same thing for Necalli ?

so piece of mercury (now mercury shard) is f+mk now, wonder why they changed it and made far st.hp df+hp instead of a f+hp :\

Vega looks amazing.

Absolutely incredible. He has so much added to his game. I’m pumped.

He still has his air grab! Yes!

Not liking the POM input. Might end up getting it by mistake. Like Kuroi said, it would make more sense to have f +hp be “old st.hp” and df + mk remain as POM.

No, I think they had it be DF+HP to avoid the Remy problem. When walking forward and trying to get s/cl.MK with Remy, you had to be careful not to get F+MK, his rather lousy overhead.

Looks like if you decide to attack after the turn you can choose high/mid/low.

But using that same logic, they should’ve kept Piece of Mercury (or Mercury Shard) as DF+MK.

[] I’m so happy about the Izuna Drop changing to the throw input. No more accidental slash when I want throw. This is amazing!!
[
] We have both Backslashes!! This is great, too, since short looked like it didn’t recover before the opponent did, so if you want even more space then use PPP.
[] LOL, command throw is Grand Izuna Drop. I’m so going to troll people when I pull that off in a match by telling them to GIDGUD.
[
] RCF is now Crimson Terror. Weird name change, especially since CT sounds more like Scarlet Terror.
[] Aurora Spin Edge is going to be our long range poke special. This I like.
[
] Switch Claw, that may be a hassle to deal with, but we’ll see.

Looks like the first combo we saw on the reveal trailer was j.HP, HP xx SC, MP, HK xx MT (held down)

*Sorry d3v for the image quote, lol

The inputs look good.

The change was probably because when crouching during a cross up attempt and you want to punish or force a block when they land with cr.MK, you’ll get PoM instead. Maybe another reason is walking forward RCF won’t get fucked up if you’re trying to negative edge it from cr.LK xx Crimson Terror (new name for RCF.) For a quick cr.MK xx CT motion you may want to hit MK at the DF position instead of down if people are slow on the motion input, if it was DF+MK then you’d get MS instead and that would fuck up your setup.

Another situation I can think of is that overheads have almost always be F+Button and since he is no longer charge you don’t have to worry about charging back, hitting f + MK and accidentally getting PoM instead of ST. Probably a part of standardizing the inputs. Now you can walk forward from blocking low and overhead instead. Because of him not being charge, this also means we can leave the stick neutral and use st.MK as much as we want and still be able to cancel on hit, so walk forward, let go of stick press button, walk forward, let go of stick press button, walk back press button, and so on. I wonder how many times I’ll accidentally get it though :frowning: This happened a lot to me in ST when I want to simply get st.MK after blocking low and walking forward to punish someone walking back, you get flip kicks instead.

It’s also probably more important for him to be able to walk backwards while hitting MK than it is to walk forward, since we’ll probably use MK as a way to shut down low attacks and use MP for our fastest long range poke option.

Perhaps Buster Claw is the input it is so that we can cr.K and then switch it up to Buster Claw on the fly without having to move the stick. The only other thing I can think of is that they want us to be able to walk forward and use our target combo instead of getting a long range, slow attack with a lot of recovery instead, so DF is to avoid getting BC accidentally.

I dunno, it’s not really consistent either way. I’d rather the command normal be on the diagonals instead of cardinals, especially since I’m going to be using forward and back a lot.

Edit: On the other hand though, in CvS2 I don’t have a problem when it comes to CH accidentally coming out instead of s.HK, and in that game it’s F+HK.

Motion character not for long according to Combofiend, this is marvelous news.

At least the truth was exposed why many people disliked using Vega in the first place

Source? I’m not particularly for or against charge or motion (on one hand, I can clearly see the advantages of motion, on the other hand, I’m really used to charge and manage well, although I know this is only me resisting to change), but if you say according to Combofiend, you should state where you got that from: tweet? interview? phone call? casual meeting with him on the way to the grocery?

Guys, embrace the change. Evolve. I want to be able to walk forward with Vega, throw out a c.MK, and hit confirm into a special move or Critical Art. This is the natural evolution of poking with Vega.

They already have an official command list for him with buttons and everything. Kinda hard to figure it’s just going to be temporary at this point.

The only moves they could realistically make charge moves are his roll and walldive.

Unless you guys seriously want to charge for a command grab and stance change, in which case, you are the worst. The. Worst.

You could do that with charge if they expanded Vega’s links. All it would take is cr.MK x2 -> cr.MP being a combo like in ST and you’d have enough time to build charge for EX Wall Dive or CA. Bison can walk forward, combo 3 cr.LKs and be able to cancel into Knee Press.

I never expected his new moves to be charge.

Update: In an interview with Shoryuken, Associate Producer for SF5, Peter “Combofiend” Rosas, has stated that this could change.

"We’re just testing him out without charge motions at this moment in time. It’s not final by any means. If it’s a good fit, it may stay. If it’s too strong, it could go. We were just giving players a heads up so they’re not in utter shock when they use him at Gamescom.”

Earlier: Street Fighter’s Twitter just announced that Vega will not be a charge character, but rather a circular motion character in Street Fighter 5:

source: Eventhubs

That was giving to players at Gamecom, could possibly change.

yeah we know that, already, but that doesn’t mean he “won’t be motion for long”

@Bawitback right I read that. Just saying that if they already put out a moves list and people are generally accepting of the change then it’s very likely it will stay. Combofiend is basically stating that there’s just as good of a chance of the motions staying or reverting to charge depending on reception and overall feel of balance. Which I imagine a lot of people (especially newer/intermediate players) will find motion Vega more fun and may push them to keep him that way.

Especially since even strategically it just opens up a lot of options for him since he doesn’t have any special moves that gain benefit from being charge or generally have to be balanced around it like Guile Sonic Boom or Bison Scissors. All of his specials just seem like they are charge because it’s cool and in 2015 it’s worth reevaluating that now.

I don’t think Vega’s new special move would make much sense if it was a charge move.
