Cosmic Heel had other interesting uses such as jumping over knocked-down bodies, but also a way to “quickstep forward”. With Vega you’re supposed to stay away in that famous “mid-range” distance, so sometimes you could walk forward, CH (whiff) and throw.
Yeah, but those gimmicks wear out quickly against a seasoned opponent or one who adapts on the fly really well.
These changes should also mean that Vega may have a reason to be near people now.
Well yeah… That command grab while clawless changes everything. It’s almost like having two characters in one.
So funny story for everyone. I actually asked Ono to put Vega in SFV on Saturday at EVO. I went up to him and said “Ono-san! Please put Balrog in the game!” (While holding and showing him my Vega mask necklace) The man simply looked at me and laughed. Then I went and found Combofiend and asked him if Vega has a shot of being in the game. He said two things to me. The first thing he said was it all depends on the story, but the second thing he told me was interesting. He said Vega would be scary in SFV because it’s an honest game and Vega is a very honest character.
Now here we are and he’s officially in the game. Surreal. I am so happy he’s here.

But you can’t expect everyone to cheer for this massive change.
Making him motion caused them to give him worse pokes and a slow walkspeed. He doesn’t even lean forward for his trademark cr.mp now.
I prefer a fast walkspeed, beastly pokes and charging.
A sudden move that makes the character charge forward full screen, makes more sense as a charge special. His moves are very obviously designed for charging. Making them motion will give him no advantage and will just be an aimless change for me.
Anyway, I can see why you feel this way, but I don’t feel the same.
We could, as motion and charge supporters, communicate better without all the personal attacks. You have already told you don’t support that. But unfortunately, I do. Maybe it has something to do with age. You won’t feel this way, and realise that what you speak of is not a real discussion, as you get older. Really.
SRK is infamous for having a bitter community. Treating newcomers like shit, beginners trying to shit over pros, old members not respecting each other, etc.
I’ve always stood against these for these 4 years.
I’ve made combo videos, put rare replays, tried to teach things to beginners to the point of inviting them to steam, shared what unheard information I’ve found with the Vega community, etc. during these years. And then someone I’ve never seen in the forum before comes and says none of my posts should have seen the light of day, in the same thread with my trailer breakdown and the framedata I’ve tried to pull from the trailer. Pff, comical. It only shows how difference in age matters, I guess. These kinds of shallow attacks are way behind me now. I find them childish. Just like Youtube comments.
I only play charge. And I only play Vega in SF. I don’t play games where he is not in. This kind of reaction is only normal from me. It is a part of his identity at this point, after all those years since his creation.
Vega has been very strong for most of his history and he has been charge. He was not that good in SF4 because of SF4 mechanics, not because he was charge. That’s why I don’t think charge is a hindrence for him. You can see advantages of him being a motion, but I don’t.
I could have written a more eloborate text for the petition like you said, but time has showed those don’t work in petitions. Short and simple text works better.
I want to leave this pointless debate behind really. There is no possibilty of an agreement.

Regardless of the command inputs Vega ends up with, I don’t think they have taken this whole stance thing to its full potential. Here’s my 2 cents on how I would make to add more variety to his SFV playstyle.
3p or 3k - Stance Change
This makes more sense to me.
It would’ve been great if they carried a similar duality to Necalli. Have his Claw Stance demonstrate a more ruthless, crazy, and happy-go-homocide side of him. Then have his Sheathed stance, be more graceful, elegant, and acrobatic. This duality would’ve been reflected more strongly in his animations and general demeanor.
Dodge Slash (Claw) / Scarlet Terror (Sheathed)
Giving ST new properties depending on kick button. Maybe even giving it its own version of the dodge to mirror its Claw stance alternative, this maybe too much.
**Rolling Crystal Flash **
Pressing K at anytime during the roll should stop/cancel the roll and do the attack. A claw diagonal attack (classic) during Claw RCF and a heel drop (the one in SFV now) during Sheathed RCF. Claw RCF’s finisher has better AA properties while the Sheathed RCF’s finisher can be used as an overhead.
Flying Barcelona Attack
Velocity/direction of Wall dependant on which kick used to avoid autocorrect.
If you press P during claw FBA, Vega does his traditional claw attack. If you press P during sheathed FBA, he will cancel into Rose Thorn divekick (from omega)
He should be able to do the flying Izuna drop in either stance.
Ground Izuna Drop (Sheathed Only)
This should have another command separate from Dodge Slash which would alternate with ST now.
Sky High Claw (Claw Only)
I didn’t see anyone use this so I assume it is gone. If ground Izuna drop is made into its own separate Sheathed Only attack. Sky High Claw could be made into a claw only attack and doesn’t need to share commands with anything.
I would love to fit this back into his skill set. I was thinking to give it the Headstomp/Devil treatment and merge it as an alternate attack from FBA but this may be too much as well.

I think this is the first time we see that Vega can combo out of his V-Trigger. I guess many of us suspected it, but actually seeing him connect his CA after the V-Trigger is really exciting. Lots of other things to discuss about the video, but I’ll let you guys analyze it too.

He said “I think you’re jumping the gun here. Vega may or may not go into SFV as a charge character. We’re testing it out currently, much like we’re testing out commands with all the other characters, to see what makes sense and what doesn’t.

At this point, I’ve reached the person that should be reached. I never thought he would respond. I feel the petition has become pointless with this. So, I think the better action is to close it. I thank everyone that signed it.
Majority of the fans are happy with the change. I’m not one of them. For the first time ever, I feel disconnected from my fav char in gaming in this version of him. Don’t know if it’s only because of the charge-motion change. But our voice (as charge supporters) are heard, anyway. There is nothing else to be done. If he stays this way, we will have to adapt to the change, knowing we have done everything we could and being the minority in this case hasn’t worked for us.
Whatever happens, I’m extremely happy he is in, in the first place. Due to a sudden, positive, life-changing twist my life has taken today (I’m actually above the clouds), I’ll not be able to be that active. I’m not even sure I’ll even be able to play SF5, but as Vega is in I’ll have to try him out. But there is no possiblity of me spending that much time to the game like SF4. So, there’s that.

So I guess the double slash is the s.HP, and the long s.HP is actually DF+HP. Also, the second hit of s.HP, though it knocks down, can be canceled. We see s.HP (both hits) xx V-Skill a lot in that video. So we can probably also follow up with nearly anything after s.HP. EX FBA, the Slash special, Critical Art, and V-Trigger.
Also, the easiness of comboing into the V-Skill means we’ll have a good way to build V-Gauge in case our V-Trigger is (hopefully) good and useful.

DF+HP sounds weird for old far s.hp… i would have prefered b+HP for double slash and s.hp for old far s.hp :\
Yes, its odd thinking of it as a “crouching” normal.
Oh that’s cool that some of his punches completely change with and without the claw instead of being the same normal with less range. I also think it’s cool that he has stance change combos as shown in the reveal trailer. I know some of the arguments regarding Vega being charge/motion was that the motions make him an easier character but the added stance change probably makes him one of the more complicated characters in the game, at the moment.
All of these changes only lend to the Claw’s unpredictability. Charge or not, Claw and I will be taking EVO 2016.
