That’s not really charging though. That’s tapping.
Charge partitioning and overall reduction in charge time is more than enough in leveling the playing field. There is also the playing up of a charge character’s strengths to compensate for the potential loss of some mobility and options.
True, the word tapping just wasn’t springing to mind for me for whatever reason.
Thing is though tap motions give the benefit of motion inputs while still maintaining the traditional form of Claw’s inputs. Not really advocating for or against it, but if they decide that they are definitely changing his inputs it might be more palatable than all new circle motions.
It would be odd to not have it, but it’s a fresh take. I like how st.MP is looking, looks useful in a different way now. I loved using st.MP in ST, it had a very different utility than st.HP. I wish when we saw these videos they had inputs shown like in training mode. It would allow us to figure things out so much easier.
@Daemos and @Gross_Indecency your worries about versatility are a bit overstated. I feel they are adding versatility overall by making charge characters who are better suited off not being charge characters collect motions for their inputs.
Notice how Bison is still mainly a charge character because there probably isn’t a realistic way to make scissors kick pressure a motion command without breaking the way he works. They would either have to make it longer start up or more recovery and that would change what that move is designed ti do too much.
Its also generally unrealistic to expect a motion character to suddenly be a charge. Even if joking Capcom doesn’t see any fundamental reason to add charge motions. They are seeing that adding motions to previous charge characters opens up options for them while making them more accessible. Can’t go wrong with that.
@“Super Sonic” Vega only gets more options by being able to poke into specials without holding a charge. He doesn’t have a move like Bison’s scissor kick that fundamentally relies on a charge to get the most out of it. All of Vegas moves only gain benefit from being chargeless and get more options for when they can be used.
That would actually be worse. Having NO charge time means you could never go from back to forward and hit a button without getting RCF for example. It’s bad enough when charge is still stored as you walk forward and get a different move coming out than the button you wanted to press.
Motions kind of fix that, but then you get other issues like walk forward cr.MK xx hado turning into cr.MK xx SRK. No one likes that, either, lol!!
I don’t get how Bison can’t be a motion and Vega can or how SK cant be motion but FBA can. The same thing you feel about SK is what I feel about Vega.
I thought even Blanka’s being a motion is more reasonable than Vega being one. His everything screams charge.
Motion cannot clash more with a char. They have made the most obviously charge char motion. I can expect anything from Capcom.

That sort of depends really. You have some risk of accidental moves, but only in the same way you do with command normals, and motion inputs don’t fully protect you from that sort of thing either (walk forward from a crouch, throw a punch, get a fireball instead for example).
Anyway, just wanted to put the thought out there as an alternative to just giving qc and hc inputs. Not necessarily better but something to maybe consider.
Now that you mention it, if blanka makes it electricity is going to be a motion, which means it’s gonna lose all it’s frame advantage glory it has in sf4. Off topic sorry.
