Vega General Thread: The Masked Narcissist Enters The Tournament

IGN just uploaded this:

For Vega I believe there was no reason he needed to be charge. He didn’t gain any benefits for being a charge character and he easily could have played the same in older games without a charge. Hes not like Guile where without charge for sonic booms you have to completely change the properties of the boom to make him work.

Just like how Chun Li could live without her sbk and fireball being charge. No charge just opens up options for Vega in the long run.

Finally see cr.HP, and it’s his Crush Counter! st.MK also seems like it stopped Necalli’s forward EX ground stomps. I really hope that attack hits low to the ground, it would be a great tool to shut out shoto cr.MK xx hado.

IGN Video: Classic long range st.HP is there. Obviously one of the HP buttons is a command normal. This is good news.

v.skill is not command throw invincible. Didn’t really expect it to be.

Oh! Look at Necalli in Torrent of Power. It’s instant, and then he starts moving like an animal instead of walking like a human. Pretty cool. Claw vs Claws!

– thoughts –

Walk speed is a bit slower than I’d expect. I hope they speed him up a little. Otherwise, his attacks look really good, and he’s getting damage off of buttons rather than fancy combos.

He only dropped his claw in the last 10% health.

Did you guys pick up a drop sooner than that in another video?

Oh wow it seems his rose doesn’t track, but goes a certain direction. Possibly aimed?

He uses it above necalli and it goes straight forward.

I noticed. That makes me happy actually, something like that, just aim it. It makes sense now, because all the directions they showed us in the reveal trailer matches the 8 directions we always use in the game. I’m glad this takes a little bit of skill! Auto homing would have been stupid.

I like it too, but I don’t plan on playing this character (in fact I’m traumatized by him). It means there will be dead zones though.

Why does Vega dance like Michael Jackson when he wins the match?

Meh, at least his yodeling is great.

We have our SF4 cr.lp as cr.mp in SF5
That stance is gorgeous though.

Holy shit. Look at necalli’s walk animation during v-trigger!!!

Maaaan, talk about disappointing. I thought he had walkspeed, but I was wrong. His buttons looked really awkward as well.

SFA3 single player as a kid.
I’ve hated the character ever since.
Playing against him in ST really didn’t help.

Oh, you’re just assuming I’m assuming things. Read my original post again. It goes: “No 360, no charge… I don’t see how that is a good thing for the versatility of the game.”

Anyway, I’m a huge supporter of versatility. I don’t care what kind of benefits motion brings to Vega. I don’t even play Vega that seriously. What I care about is how everyone and their mothers is a motion character now, which takes away from the versatility of the game and adds to it being noob-friendly.

What if I told you that Vega being a motion character would add to his versatility?

(Wrote most of this out earlier before my lift finally turned up and holy shit this thread devolved even further somehow. Going to post this reply to something earlier then stop posting about it.)

Heh, I remember trying to perform SRK’s on my snes pad so I’ll give you that first part. Execution was much stricter back then so it doesn’t really pertain to how things are now, but I get your point.

So that guy playing managed to get out a few RCF’s. I would argue that the reason for that is because he was mashing both stick and buttons trying to do something/anything. Especially given that logic tells me that RCF will be QCF+P. When you see someone not well versed in the game (Or doesn’t play the game at all) mash things out the stick tends to be held more towards forwards and punches get pressed the most (I think this is mostly due to arcade sticks having the punches at the top).
The result would be someone getting a QCF+P input resulting in an RCF.
That’s how I see it anyways.

Again, I don’t see it that way.
To me it seems like they’re taking the unique parts and naunces from the character. Removing LL and the like, to me, is removing a unique part of that character. This is something I’ve been complaining to my friends about but haven’t made any posts because I’m not a Chun player and as such, this didn’t affect me. I’m now seeing the error in that because it showed early on Capcom’s idea on how things are going to evolve.

It’s true that charging wasn’t as important in those games because Vega’s normals had a big “Fuck You” on them and most couldn’t contend with them if the correct one’s were used. On the flip side though, when he has charging, people would get scared because they knew they were about to get vortex’d or locked down.
As a counter to your accidental moves point - In SF4 I’ve seen many a person get an accidentaly SRK because of the input buffer when all they wanted was a fireball/walk forward button. Neither are ideal but changing a control scheme doesn’t stop these things from happening but merely changes one set of problems for another. (This is my observation anyways, take with a pinch of salt)

I disagree. His tools will be “Adjusted” because he is no longer charge.
I will semi-agree with you about the picture of him. If I see a picture of Vega I think “That’s one beautiful man”.
However if you were to ask most people about Vega, one of the things they will say is that he’s a charge character. Because that’s part of who he always has been.
(This wasn’t intended to be a real point but is more of a rebuttal to your statement)

The reason this annoys me so is because they might actually have a good point to put across but instead feel the need to insult people’s intelligence or refer to them as babies. If you think someone is “Crying” then ignore them rather than painting everyone who shares a single point of view on something as a petulant child because it’s not your point of view.

(Written now)
I honestly thought this discussion started off ok but reading it back through a bit it does seem a bit petty. I don’t agree with many people here but there’s not need for anyone to get mad over someone elses opinion.
I came in here earlier and I was salty as hell. I’m still not happy about the change but that’s down to me.

Actually on topic : His animations are really smooth. I love how he looks when he’s doing stuff. Or not, idle looks godlike too.

How is that?

There are other fighting games where ‘charge’ motions don’t require charge time. Just tap back-forward and hit button.

Viable compromise? The one flaw is that you have to get used to not doing the move accidentally in some situations, but it isn’t even as bad as command normals in that regard so no big deal.

He was referring to the versatility of the game (by offering different playstyles), not the versatility of the character. To me, that is a far bigger concern than Vega ever could be. It basically means that they will inevitably filter out all charge inputs over time, perhaps one day even change Bison’s gasp inputs, and that’s a line I don’t want them to ever cross.

Watching those videos earlier I didn’t understand why people were saying they liked the walk speed. I was hoping I’d missed something but no, his walk speed is average. Given the power of his normals that makes sense. I hope we get some at least mid-level play videos (Even one would be nice) so we can see things being used effectively rather than just mashed out.
I appreciate getting to see stuff but digging through watching people mash buttons at each other to see a brief tidbit of information is painful.

After they have crossed THIS line, I don’t even care.
If this change stays, I really hope Akuma to be a charge character. Man, that will be a sight to watch those reactions.

told that, i was sure he was gonna have his classic s.hp
