Hahaha super smash, LOL!!! But seriously, where is all the love for the chargers though??
I’m not going to get into the whole charge vs motion inputs thing (and yes i’ve always thought charge characters to be at a disadvantage- please don’t flame me, just my opinion, probably still scarred from being a guile player in HF and not being able to do jack shi*t ryu or sagat) but it does peak my interest as to who exactly in the game are going to be charge characters???
Cap must be trying to make a point by releasing Nash and Vega so early in the line-up, and converting them both to motions.
I’ll say this for the last time.
AS A CHARGE VEGA SUPPORTER
For us,
Giving him commands is not a buff.
Charge is not a hindrance for us.
His SF4 problems were because of the SF system not him being a charge char.
We’re all for chances. But charging is a playstyle and this change means changing the whole gameplay of the char. And we have EVERY right to not welcome this change, while others have EVERY right to welcome it. Stop attacking each other.
Just because we want our char not to be a motion doesn’t mean we’re charge purist, and nothing is wrong with being charge purist, anyway.
For us, it just doesn’t suit the char.
No, we don’t have to try him out to feel if it suits.
No, we don’t have to adapt to every change presented to us. We get to elect. We’re human. We have every right to deny.
Just learn to express your ideas without insulting each others’ ideas. How can this be THAT difficult?
Variation in input isn’t the same as variation in specials and tools. The nature of the inputs places parameters on a player that the player must work within to beat their opponent. Playing a complete charge, complete motion, or complete degrees grappler character is a complete shift in play style. The momentum, risks, and rewards, the general feel is different. It’s something more primordial than different specials so much that it can feel like a different game sometimes.
Ryu and Guile both have a fireball and an AA special (forget about tatsu for a sec), on paper they have very similar specials but the variation in inputs makes playing either a different experience altogether (This is why only idiots think that Vega will feel/play the same as 100% motion).
Of course variation in specials, normals, frame data, etc makes characters play differently, but variation in input reinforces that difference further.
So why take that uniqueness away?
Is it to buff Vega? We established that it’s not really buff because charge inputs don’t have to be a nerf if designed properly. Furthermore, charge conditions/properties can and have changed in SFV for the better.
Is to make Vega more accessible? The majority of the cast are motion characters, do they really all have to be?
Change is good, what’s wrong with you? Give him new specials, replace old ones, give him new target combos, command normals, new system mechanics. Yes change can be good. But change isn’t alway is, especially sudden and drastic change. You can also always go play a more radically different character than ask for an established character to be radically different.
Okay… I originally came here to read / watch breakdowns and for Hype and I see people bickering over charge vs motion inputs!? Here’s something to think about. Regardless what your personal taste is, or even preference in control sets. We just got our character, much to my surprise added to the SFV roster, as a launch character no less, and we are fighting over an experiment done to see if motion inputs work better for Vega or not?
Vega has always been a charge character, and for the most part we’ve all enjoyed his gameplay, yes? Especially considering how unique he is among the SF roster at large.
Consider for a moment how outlandish the following proposition is.
-before going on read that I don’t care which one he ends up as-
What if your “command normal” input style was the way of doing specials? Now if that was the way the game came out, would you drop a character you’ve put this much time into? I have been hooked on Vega since very early, I am NOT going to give in to “he should be this way” even though I’ve gotten so used to it when I saw the footage I thought the charge times were super fast. I didn’t even think motions for Vega would remotely be a consideration.
If Vega is charge, I’ll be there. If he’s motion, I’ll be there. Neither of these is going to dissuade me from picking up one of the most influential characters of my fighting game life. The vets will adapt (even if it is an adjusted charge or a motion), the new comers will learn whatever system is in place. It’s whats best for Vega at this point. Not whats best for our muscle memory.
You can argue better normals for charge or worse for motion all day. The end result we all want is a competitive Vega that gives us a sense of accomplishment when we play, Can we at least agree on this?
Can you imagine if Ryu became a charge character!!!
Any talks about motion inputs not defining him then would certainly lead to the Claimant wishing he had been playing Street Fighter and not posting on forums
Same here. I’ll be disappointed if he isn’t command motion simply for the notion of wanting to see how he feels in that manner. I’d still be happy regardless, and I’m hyped as fuck that he’s in as a launch character. I’ve had trouble sleeping lately from the hype, I simply want to talk about the character so much and study what we’ve seen. I love the new direction, it looks awesome and it looks fresh.
He’d lose a lot of mobility and versatility. No more air tatsu, no walk forward cr.MK xx hado, no walk forward DP, no walk forward lk.Tatsu over sonic boom grabbing. In a case like this, it would be a huge loss.
So what you’re saying is, the problem is not the removal of charge per-se, but the consequent change of playstyle/feel that comes from it, right? Yet ALL characters in SF5 have been revamped in playstyle and feel to some degree, and nobody has complained.
I mean, from the looks of it, Vega is MUCH more similar to his former self (even without charge) than say, Bison, who is a radically different character, hell even a completely different archetype. So if it’s the feel/style you’re complaining about, I get you, but that’s beyond the original point.
Y’know, /v/ had a thread on this very subject yesterday and it somehow devolved into people complaining about people wanting R.Mika to return. All things considered, I’d rather have that than what’s going down in here.
On a side note, holy shit the expression on his face is priceless here, I’m dyin’:
If you don’t like the way Vega is going there is always older games/other characters.
Be happy Vega is here.
I mean don’t get me wrong. It WILL feel weird not to hold down back. Its even hard to process in my mind. But I welcome the change and believe he will be better for it. Nostalgia is not a reason to hold him back. I just find it hilarious there are people who will “quit the game” over this.
Charge never held him back. But I’m just being open-minded here, is there a possibility that motion might actually propel him even further forward though??
If they’re experimenting with motion inputs for vega, i’m sure they have a good reason for it. I have no idea how the gamescom schedule is going but I really do hope that some competent player can test him out and give us proper feedback.
If he ends up being charge then I’m happy. I’ve also been maining vega forever. ST, EX, alpha 3(short lived though) and IV, and I think if anything, motion controls break the monotony. Familiarity and nostalgia shouldn’t be a hindrance…
