When I first started playing, charge inputs were so much easier. I think it’s just that so far into SF’s lifespan, everyone knows QCF and SRK. I can’t say for sure if he would or wouldn’t. Perhaps he knows what charges are, and perhaps the guy talking to him told him Vega wasn’t a charge character anymore. He knew how to RCF, and we saw it several times. I can’t say he was mashing the stick in crazy directions, but he was definitely mashing buttons. All that spinning
I get what he means but within the context of this topic they removed mashing moves like LL in favor of making it a command. IMO, it seems like they’re trying to standardize the input system while retaining unique characters. I’m ok with this. Obviously some aren’t.
I know, but my point was charging was not the focus in those games. For Vega, buttons were, and in the case of ST, FBA vortex depending on the player using him. In this game, he has good buttons again, they can combo, yada yada, so whether or not he charges probably won’t even matter. I’m guessing if he’s as good as he looks, people will win with him without having to use a bunch of special attacks. Not having to charge does increase versatility and mobility though, plus no more accidental RCF or ST if you’re changing state from blocking to walking forward and applying pressure to an opponent if they give you the opportunity to fight back. That happens a lot, even in ST. I’ll actually play O.Claw a lot because I want to always go from blocking or down back to walking forward st.MK to push people into the corner. If I pick n.Claw, then I’ll get accidental ST, which leaves me open for punishment on recovery. The input window is variable from 9 to 15 frames, so it isn’t a lot of time but enough that when you’re changing states, it can hurt.
I think it’s irrational when every tool, visual design aspect, and play style (completely different from control scheme) is 100% intact. That is his identity, not how he controls. If some people identify with Vega for how he controls, ok, but when you see a picture of him I bet most people think of an annoying poke monster or wall dive loop shenanigans over “hey, charge character!”
I agree that some people are being brash about waaah down back, but I get their sentiment in this, and perhaps frustration about people refusing to try something new. TTYL.
No, everyone is letting them know what they feel about it. Some say they like it, some say they don’t. He says “it may stay”. How would Capcom know what the costumers feel if we didn’t speak out? They are making the game for the players after all. Let the players express their opinions.
No, they shouldn’t. But there’s no need to go crazy and bitch and moan about it either. You want to express your opinion on the matter? Fine, go ahead, you have dedicated ways of leaving your feedback against making Vega motion char only
Instead all I have been seeing for these last two pages is people acting like it’s the end of the world and their lives are forever ruined
I hope this isn’t in reference to me. If you think I haven’t embraced the character you have no idea. I’ve played him for decades, drawn him, represented him in SF4 when I practically loathe the game and yet still stick with him throughout the bad or the good like CvS2. I’ve played in ST tournaments (still do in fact) and have won against guys like Jumpsuit Jesse (o.claw vs fei long is not an easy match and he’s a really good fei long player) and James Chen, one of the best Cammy specialist in the USA. If this is in reference to me, check yourself. I’ll be happy to play him effectively against you in ST, my main game, any day.
No, I skipped no.3 because it will most likely take the most time to type up and my lift is already 45 minutes late so Moonchilde only skipped 3 because I did.
He and other charge characters were defensive in SF4 because the game’s engine sucked for charge characters. It also doesn’t help that since you don’t have any good offensive options you have to resort to poke poke poke and a strong defense.
I don’t like the change to command motions at all and hope it’s not final.
If I wanted it to become personal, I would give your name. I’ll also be happy to play him against you in USF4, my main game. Should we also measure out our dicks *kappa?
My patience has its limit, mate. Take a hint and respect other people here who don’t want their chars to change his whole gameplan they loved for years. You can like the change, but trying to suppress everyone who doesn’t, is not your business.
How am I suppressing you though? All I’m asking is for logical explanations beyond “just because” for why he needs to remain charge. No one has provided that yet, not in the slightest. On the flip side, I’ve offered more than enough counterpoints as to why changing would be a good thing and even true to the character. I’ve also explained there are many things that define Vega, many more important than charging IMO. His pokes, his moves, his speed, his style, his visual flair, his personality - all stuff that fall under defining characteristics. I would even be willing to go to whatever next event I could go to and ask people “What defines Street Fighter’s Vega to you?” I think the least popular description would be “charge character.”
Yeah, I’d love to play you in USF4. I might learn a thing or two, and maybe surprise you as well. Unfortunately, we live far away and that won’t happen unless you decide to go to a US major or I decide to go to a Europe major. My name isn’t anything private, I’ve posted it before on the forums and I registered in USF4 with my real name and my handle, so big whoop, tell people my name. Perhaps there is a culture thing though and I don’t understand the phrase “I would give your name.” Care to explain?
Noone said “just because” not even once. Everyone said why they didn’t welcome this change. You want people to think like you. This won’t happen. I also do not understand one bit, how char loyalist Vega can welcome this change, but I have never tried to change others’ opinions. Because this is taste, not an idea. It won’t change with talking. I expect the same. Do not tell people to explain themselves about tastes. It just seems completely stıpid to me to do a fba with qcf+k motion. I just feel this. I love Vega being that snake who pokes, sneaks and attack with the first opportunity, and commands kill it FOR ME. There is no explanation. This is how I feel. And it is not how you feel. And I’m not asking you to explain it. Cause it doesn’t matter. You will like it and I won’t, nothing will change.
That’s why you should leave the people alone in this matter, and not respond to everyone who says he doesn’t like the change, or press WTF to bury that opinion you don’t like. Use “disagree”. Wanting an opinion to disappear just because you disagree with it is not mature.
Note: “I would give your name”, as in “I didn’t give your name (Moonchilde) or anyone’s name in that post you quoted. Cause I don’t want it to become personal.”
not a vega player so I don’t care either way but please if you want your voice to be heard hit up twitter and capcom unity as well. However it seems to me from Combofiend comment, the only way they will change motions is if its to op… not because people don’t like it. I think he will end up being a sort of a hybrid and I feel for those who wish he was still charge.
Did we even play, lol? I’m no tournament player and only an online player but I was no.1 vega on pc before deleting the stupid savefile in June (leaderboards still see it though). And Moon seems to be great in ST. So, no, we don’t suck.
Anyway, this is off topic.
Not trying to nitpick, but when you say things like “it ruins the character” or “it’s not Vega” or “it’s not true to his play style” those are basically just because answers, especially the first two. The third is the closest to an explanation I’ve seen many of the people who refuse to give the new change a try.
When you write things like " I love Vega being that snake who pokes, sneaks and attack with the first opportunity, and commands kill it FOR ME," I find it illogical because command or charge has nothing to do with any of that. That part of Vega that makes Vega is buttons, and this is still the same as in past games. This is why you see me asking over and over for a real explanation of why charging vs command is a difference in this context, because from my point of view, it isn’t.
I’m happy with “I don’t like command motions” if that is your answer. Seriously. If you simply don’t like it, great! I find it disingenuous though to see you and others writing it isn’t true to the character’s play style or that charging is what defines the character. Those aren’t logical reasons and are highly subjective, especially when on paper, play style and character defining traits (as I’ve outlined prior several times) are still there.
This is literally all I’m asking, over and over and over…
Also, the point of the forum is discussion. if people come in and talk about it, I want to talk about it too, and figure out why they like the change or why they don’t. I’ve also only hit WTF sparingly in this thread and it was Daemos’ post back in response to me asking you if your post was in reference to mine. Also, a post of yours that was pretty weird. Otherwise, I’ve been using disagree for the most part.
I’m open to him being a motion character, but I feel he will end up as a hybrid like Gen which really intruiges me since I wanted a stance character in this game.
That’s the thing though. Does it really completely change how he plays? Because I’m not convinced it does.
Let’s put it this way: how would making him a motion character in ST or CvS2 change how he plays (and now we’re disregarding the fact that he played completely differently in both games)? His rolling attack would be better, and it would change how Scarlet Terror works, but that’s really all I can think about. His other specials don’t really gain or lose much from him being a charge character, unlike most other characters.
The one game where it might actually have some real impact is SF4, because he could break armor* and do combos without needing charge. Neither of those things were problems in ST or CvS2 (or SFxT or A3 for that matter).
The way I see it, the character is so based around normals and spacing that his specials would need drastic changes, regardless of them being charge or not, for it to greatly affect his playstyle. That’s why it doesn’t bother me so much. Not wanting the command scheme to change is fine, but I’d be surprised if it “destroyed the character” as you so melodramatically put it.
I’m assuming that his armor breaker requires charge and is worth using in the first place, so correct me if I’m wrong.
