Yeah, the ability to walk around in neutral and cancel into specials without down/back charge is pretty big. Wonder what the motions will be though? Quarter circles would be pretty weird for Flying Barcelona.
Yea I’m with you on that one. People bitched not only about ST but also about his c.lp link into c.mp being given 1 more frame of leniency. While every other character could mash crouching lp into something and do decent damage, vega had a fucking 2 frame link as his BnB and it still required meter to be able to capitalize on damage. Balrog could get a free U1 out of a jab like you stated, had multiple reversal tools, great range on his normals and did good damage…so why the hell did vega get the shaft and why on earth was everyone saying he became broken during location tests. He just became decent. And then got the shaft again.
Also, it it confirmed that he’s a motion character? Not going to lie, I’m pretty excited about it. I don’t give half a shit about what motions a character uses; If I like a character I use him/her.
QCF + P = Neutral jump, press P for SHC
QCF + P (in air) = jumping SHC
QCF/QCB + K = FBA
QCFx2 + KKK = CA
HCF + P = Izuna (clawless)
HCF + K = v.trigger
SRK + P = RCF (clawless)
SRK + P = Slash (claw)
SRK + K = ST

Name one character that plays more similarly to Vega? Bison? MAYBE Rose? (Actually, Decapre represents what Vega could have been: an offensive, mixup charge character, not some “zoning” character that’s supposed to somehow zone without a fireball or anti-airs. But that’s neither here nor there.)
Vega and Chun both:
Have good (far reaching) pokes and really good walkspeed (and can jump off walls, though that’s hardly relevant)
Are charge characters
Have low health
Struggle with up close pressure/jumpins/safejumps/divekicks due to lacking a good reversal
have (kara) throws that are quite good
generally have low damage
The main difference that Chun has is a fireball (a bad fireball in a game with focus) and can more easily link into damage due to lightning legs. Vega’s jump is also faster and he has a bunch of anti-fireball ex moves.
Neither character was ever particularly good (both characters being at their apex in Super SF4, I think). Vega’s pokes don’t even “dominate the midrange” in SF4. I’ve had moves stuffed so many times by Makoto’s low strong…
And you’re correct, in a game where characters like Rufus, Cammy, and Yun exist, your character has to have an anti air of any kind. Vega doesn’t. He wouldn’t have been broken if ex ST had a few frames of invincibility, he would have been PLAYABLE.
That is so damn retarded. They could’ve at least kept the motion for the moves -_- but no let’s cater to the jackasses who’ll probably drop the game a month after it comes out.
Very weird, but exciting. I like charge characters for the most part, but they suck at really dominating from their pokes because they need to stock a charge beforehand and with walking in and out of the opponents range that makes it very difficult to do. I’m just interested in what motions they actually use for him, because QCF for the most part seems like it would be a weird fit.
I’m okay with it. I forget who said it, but the quote is something like:
“Old school players don’t like 3S because they’re too busy holding down back to actually play the game”.
So it will be strange not constantly charging with Vega. But if they’re making him into a proper hit and run character, maybe motions are necessary. I’m playing Vega regardless. I may have some alts if we ever actually see Necro or Karin, but… Vega is life.
Combofiend:* “We’re just testing him out without charge motions at this moment in time,” he explained. “It’s not final by any means. If it’s a good fit, it may stay. If it’s too strong, it could go. We were just giving players a heads up so they’re not in utter shock when they use him at Gamescom.”*
This is why they didn’t show him cancel anything from cr.mp in the trailer. It would be retarded if he could walk forward, cr.mp xx EX FBA or RCF or some shit for an extended combo. I don’t think cr.mp is special cancelable anymore.
As long as there are no charge Critical Arts, I’m good. No, no, I can perform them, but they’re extremely limited. You can’t hitconfirm critical cancel off of a normal whenever you want. With charge supers, you can’t just walk up, throw out a cr.MK, and hitconfirm into super.
That’s where SFIII had it right: no charge Super Arts. Remy doesn’t screw himself over much after a parry. He doesn’t need to charge for his SAs. After a parry, Remy can max punish with cl.HK, SA2.
With charge supers, the stars and planets have to align for you to get a big punish with your super. You don’t have the freedom of the rest of the cast and their motion supers.
Unfortunately, I think M. Bison already has a charge CA.
