Vega Combos & Glitches

The combos I use the most is probably cr.mk, cr.mp xx EX-FBA, cl.hp, cr.mp xx EX-FBA or CH, hk.ST. Nice damage on all of them, easy to confirm, not too tight links (actually, I have no idea about frame data, but well, I nail it consistently, and my execution is shit, so well, it’s easy). I’ve kinda given up on light punches other than to annoy people. I’m too tired of trying to do a cr.lp cr.lp cr.mp, but end up missing one and eat a mashed out ultra instead.

I just found this out, has anyone else noticed it?

Cosmic Heel -> cr.lp -> Delayed EX FBA which CROSSES UP.
Delay the EX FBA by a fraction of a second and it will cross your opponent up, I’ve been using this pretty successfully and it fools a lot of people for a nice little bit more damage. Do it enough and they start blocking forwards after a Cosmic Heel -> cr.lp, letting you do another Cosmic Heel and start the bullshit all over again, or just finish it with a RH Scarlet Terror.

Now with an uploaded video showing how it’s done.

Hmmm, does it actually cross up? when you have the comp on auto block, shouldn’t he turn around and block instead of still face you like the last time in that vid?

An easy one I’ve been using (since I’m an ultra noob and need to practice easy combos and basics right now) is cr.Mp (or a cr.lp) >> l.RCF. It does decent damage and if you throw out another poke and hit, well, you get to do it again. Linking the RCF is very easy as well. I’m sure there are better combos to use, but I’ve found this one to be useful.

Look at the vid, he’s holding back as p1. It looks like a crossup to me.

ex wall dive will also cross up on opponents wake up… its damn near impossible to time it right but i accidently pulled it off recently… opponent yelled out “THAT CROSSES UP!?”

ahhh my bad, i didn’t even see the inputs in the corner. Def a nice little reset. Has anyone tried it with another move besides cr.lp? Maybe another cr. attack gives perfect timing to crossup without having to wait a split second.

Edit:
well wadayaknow? I looked it up and foudn this

Looks like we get some more scenarios with easier setups for crossup EX FBA and U1

I did a lot of testing when I made that video, and I’d say it’s probably best if you get the notion of crossing up with U1 out of your head. While it’s more feasable on the large hitbox characers, the timing is way too strict to be reliable. If you miss and are lucky enough to not be punished, you still wasted an Ultra on a gamble.

EX FBA however, is quite useful and easier to land. It’s low risk since even if you don’t cross up you can go for the Izuna or try to steer away. The CH reset sounds like another interesting setup if you can get the timing down.

i dont know if this has also been pointed out before… (again too lazy to read all 38 pages)… but you can dash into U1… and omfg does it make for lulz online

I use this trick only against people who know vega and thus view standing/dashing as blowing my charge…

so ill croch.mp a few times from far away, then being my ultra motion using two forwards to stand and dash towards them, then boom! right into U1.

def not a viable tactic unless the bait is successful, but its worked ab 70% of the time against some very good players so definitely noteworthy

So, something really strange happened to me tonight, I don’t know if it’s been discussed before (probably). My friend picked Blanka against me, and I got a knockdown. On his wakeup, I did piece of mercury just before he activated Blanka’s U1. During the googly eyes state (you couldn’t see my face, due to Blanka’s hunch), Vega’s rear foot was off the ground in the middle of PoM. When it cut back to real-time, I had passed through him and was on the other side, clear and free of the ultra. Has this happened to anyone else? I’m probably forgetting something else I threw in there, but I can’t for the life of me recall what it was. Maybe a flip

EDIT: So, it turns out I’m just silly and didn’t discover a strange and awesome glitch. I backflipped through his Ultra as my piece of Mercury ended. Ah well. It is weird because he didn’t hit me on the way up (after that first low hit, which the PoM seemed to dodge)

this is the combo thread, not hte video or vid critique thread. If you’re gona post a vid here it should maybe be showing some combo you found out.

ugh, what is there to find? everything vega has, has pretty much been discovered. its not like you guys have found out something that has already been discovered or discussed heavily before. chill, watch the matches and learn something. like what combo or punisher is more ideal for character x.

thanx u Very much Pedo for sayin what u said u couldnt have said it any better… this is why i stopped comming on this site because of replies like that.

Looks like somebody woke up on the wrong side of the crib. :bgrin:

Or just post in the right thread, its not that hard. You’ll probably get more replies in the other thread anyway.

Has anyone been able to pull off this combo by Makoto @1:19 of the vid ? I’ve seen it in a japanese combo video before but the timing looks airtight.

Yeah, it’s pretty much a show-off fancypants combo since you’re spending an extra bar of EX for less damage than just doing the Izuna drop. But this reminds me that I asked this in the Q&A thread a while back:

I figured out the answer myself recently: In Vanilla I used to do the claw swipe right away after crossing under the opponent, at the height of the FBA. In Super, you have to do it much later, as you are on your way down (sort of like how you delay the Izuna drop when you are up against the corner). If you wait closer to the ground to do the claw, they’ll bounce back up and you’ll land with plenty of time to juggle with EX ST.

Some people might have always done it this way even in original SF4, so that’s why they weren’t having trouble with it in Super, but there it is in case anyone was having my problem. Glad it’s back in my arsenal

ah yes duey that’s exactly the way I did it in vanilla… couldn’t get it any other way… but i guess that’s why i didnt have any issue with it in super
haha
i pretty much use it to rub salt into my friends wounds when im on a streak cause they know it’s not worthwhile and i’ll usually follow up with ex mask tosk just for the fun of it haha
