Vega (Claw) Thread

I can record with my laptop’s webcam, you just need to test it a little to get the distance right.

Add me to your friends list, if you have time lets test it out a bit tonight. If I see you on, I’ll start up a chat so we can communicate since I don’t have a mic setup.

who do you guys think is the best Vega on XBoxLive right now? I think it’s RoroYung, although I haven’t seen him in a long time. He just destroys me. William209 also has a very tough Vega.

Thanks for the compliments, enjoyed playing you. I’m still learning more about Claw, but if you are looking for some monstrous Claw players, look for the following players.

As far as XBL play goes, the best active player I’ve fought IMO has to be Baconology 101. He’s extremely talented and would be an interesting tournament fighter.

As far as top Vega fighters who are also incredible include goes to

  1. Sharizord - Great tactical player, adapts quickly.

  2. KurticusGT - Aggressive Vega, great pressure game.

  3. RoroyunG - Same style as Kurticus, careful when fighting him.

  4. OPEMAI - Counter-fighter extraordinare, great reactive game.

  5. BLACKBIRD - offensive Vega, however notorious ragequitter

I hear Blacmore(Ganelon) is awesome, but I’ve never fought him personally.

As far as technical expertise and strategical knowledge of Claw, both Sharizord and Blacmore are walking Vega encyclopedias

It would be really great if I could run into the famous Japanese Vega, ARG. I hear he’s legendary, and would love a match with the guy.

I’ve heard that OPEMAI and Baconology both rage-quit. That effectively makes them noobs in my book.

I’ve heard to that effect too, but I’ve never witnessed it, even after beating Baconology myself.

On the topic of raqequitters, most are scrubby, but there are a few that have some remarkable talent with their only fault being that they are sore losers.

I can’t classify these guys as noobs because their fighting ability says otherwise, but I have the right to call them pussies because they can’t take their loss like a man.

For those of you that were looking to help with updating my FAQ, I posted excerpts from my updated draft in the applicable character threads. If you go through there and read those, you’ll see what I’m looking for: cross-up info. What they are…who they work on…what happens when they don’t work. So far, I’m very sure that I have all of the cross-ups listed in my FAQ, but I just don’t have the specifics for the following character…

Claw: He has four cross-ups. Jumping forward, Jumping fierce, Jumping roundhouse, and the Wall Dive Claw Attack (charge d,u+kick, punch). Most reliable cross-ups: Wall Dive Claw Attack, Jumping forward, Jumping fierce.

Jumping short also connects as a crossup. I’ve used it plenty.

Claws crossups are so annoyingly particular. A cross up that won’t work on one character will work on another. I’ll see if I can add more l8r.

^^ Thank you, sir! That was a silly omission by me. I will add it to my list for Claw.

You can technically “crossup” with the Wallclaw attack as well not just the dive by doing it from the opposite wall.

It requires that you do the jump towards the wall at close range to your opponent and that they are standing though or you will simply whiff and eat a big combo due to the recovery of it.

It’s also dependent on how close to the edge of the screen you are.

So it’s very impractical but technically it’s still a crossup of sorts.

Hmmmm…very interesting. Just to be sure, you’re referring to the :hp: Sky High Claw (charge :d:,:u:+:p:, press :p:), right?

Also, I’d think you’d eat a big combo even if it hit, though, right? It doesn’t knock down, right?

I’m asking a lot of questions, it seems.

Yes and no knockdown.

Punishment depends on where you are on the screen when it hits.
I tend to use it to mixup against Deejay, Chun if they try to zone you can use it at certain distances to fly right over their projectiles.

It’s actually safe on block at certain distances since you get pushed back out on block or hit you only stay close to them if it whiffs.

While you do it you should always hold down back so you can answer them with a flipkick if they try to punish you.

Some characters can punish it for free like Blanka though.

One to note about the SkyHigh Claw is that the Jab version of it is an invaluable escape from the corner(or anywhere, depending on the situation). It flies extremely high over most attacks and has decent priority. But, as Shari said, if you land too close the horrible recovery will leave you open for anything that will probably cost you the round.

Knockdown only really occurs if they are off the ground(even just an inch), otherwise they will just eat it in the face and you have some breathing room from the bounceback.

Can fei rekka it?

Yep. Fei can rekka the heck out of it upon landing, probably with a fierce rekka. It has a slow recovery

Sky high claw makes for a nice finisher if opponent is low on energy.

It also has some other use.

If normally used at close range when opponent is going to throw a fireball, it will sometimes go over the fireball and connect for damage. This works when using a Fierce Sky High that angles over the fireball as it cruises by.

I also like to use as a counter to counter wall dive tactics. If it is used close to opponent, then Vega will fly towards wall, opponent will sometimes jump attack to counter the anticipated wall dive and ends up eating a sky high claw. This only works if opponent believes a wall dive is coming. Won’t work on some annoying air attacks such as T.Hawk’s annoying j. jab…

Blacmore is by far the best Claw player I’ve faced.

As for baconology quitting, not too sure. Out of the numerous times I’ve ran into him in ranked, I usually come out on top, but he’s never quit on me.

I’ve never had Bacon quit on me. He is a very good Vega player.

Blacmore is a BEAST. He’s just on a whole different level of Vega nastiness.

I may be really asking for one hell of an ass whooping… but where does Blacmore play? Player or Ranked? Does he compete in the WWL tourneys?

I’ve only played him once in a player room. He’s not in WWL. You should join WWL William.

The man is where the competition is. It wasn’t too long ago that it was him, me and Afro in a room together. I’d beat Afro’s Dee Jay, he’d beat me, then Afro would beat him, then Afro would switch to Balrog then beat all of us. And then one of us would finally get a win against his Balrog and it just went around and around and around. TONS OF FUN that room was.

And EVERYONE should join the WWL. The WWL is where its at!
