On page 5-6, I don’t understand the difference between the two walldives. One has a bigger hitbox than the other, and I don’t understand why these two versions differ. Different punch buttons?? It’s Japanese so I don’t get it.
so losing your claw would result in bigger hitboxes for claw dives? would it be worth losing your claw over? hmmmmm…probably not. but I guess they had to give vega something for the loss of range when he loses the claw.
7-3 Claw-Fei should probably be even more in favor of Claw. Against a turtling Claw there is virtually nothing Fei can do. Any jump-in or ground normal can be countered, so the only way he can ever regain life lead is if the Claw player just screws up (ie. stops turtling.)
7-3 is pretty accurate. I can’t help but notice that many of the 7-3 matches are fighters with close range combat specialties and no Fireballs: Blanka, Fei, Gief, Hawk. The ‘3’ is because if they close in, they can rip Vega apart. Range is the name of the game.
I’ve always thought 5-5 v Deejay, and 6-4 v Ryu, but just me.
Yes, Vega has a rock solid mid range game that is hard for non-fire throwers to get through. He is screwed badly if they CAN get through though. I think it’s partly what makes him interesting to play, very fast, odd-ball specials and a definite high risk-high reward character.
so I watched a vid from sirlin about piano inputs…does this technique still work for hd remix? and also, would it work on a regular control pad? my guess would be yes, but it would be difficult. anyone input on that would be cool, as I think I’d want to try and use it for vega’s wake up flipkick.
I think he’s high-risk if you’re predictable. He’s top tier for a reason. His mid-range game makes things easier for him, therefore, there is less risk involved. I’m not going to say he’s a low risk character, but I’ll say that he has an easier time attacking and, most importantly, reacting to his opponent because he’s so fast.
“Piano inputs” would be one of those “general fighting game concepts” that I’m sure you could find application for in any game that you play. Especially when it comes to inputting commands…never limit what you’re learning to just one game.
lately, I’ve noticed I do badly against really good shotos…I try using s. mk and s. mp along with crouching mp, but either they dp me, or sweep me while im doing pokes with mk and mp. what else can I do? they fireball me and dp when I jump in, or the better ryus fake me and I can’t tell when to close in. or they zone me perfectly, and I get shut down. what other strats do you guys use against good shotos?
Remember what we said earlier about what Ryu and Ken have to do in order to win against Claw? Answer: Land…PSYCHIC Dragon Punches.
So, to counter that…don’t be predictable. Simple.
This advice ties in with the above advice…don’t get knocked down. Seriously. That’s the only way they can start their zoning game on Claw. Otherwise, you’ll be able to jump their Hadouken attempts on reaction.
So, overall, my advice to you is to mix up the variety, spacing, and frequency of your pokes. Don’t forget that you have a “fake” far standing :mk: too…standing :lk:. Since they’re looking for a psychic DP, you can easily bait them into a DP by just twitching.
Now, if you do get knocked down, your best option is to block FBs until they stop throwing them or they push you back to full screen range and you can Wall Dive off of the back wall and Izuna Drop the next FB attempt. (You might be able to do this on reaction against Ken, but Ryu can fake you now, so you have to now get in his head for this to work.) Other than that, your goose is pretty much cooked unless they mess up.
Just when I thought I was getting the hang of dealing with old lardie - I met a Honda with an odd gameplan - twice. Now for the life of me - I can’t understand how his strat worked - I’m sure it shouldn’t but I really couldn’t do anything about it!
His name was something like ‘viewless pigface’ and he basically spent the round spamming that butt-drop thing you charge down then up and erm, kick? punch? Where he springs into the air and lands on his bum on top of you.
Anyway he spammed it the whole round, but timed it nothing short of perfectly, and I could NOT flicp kick it, could not block and counter - It completely flumoxed me…
Anyone got any suggestions on how to deal with this? It was very irritating…
I wish you had asked your question here so that I knew what the context of your question was.
“Twitching” in the context of my last post, would’ve been something like…for example…quickly moving the joystick from :r: to :l: in an attempt to fake like you’re walking towards your opponent or you’re attacking or something. Sometimes in the Claw vs. Ryu/Ken matchup, this use (or possible abuse if you ask the Ryu/Ken player) of Claw’s walking speed can scare a DP out of them! Obviously…the better the Ryu/Ken player, the less likely they’ll fall for it, but hey…a fake is a fake and it’s worth a try sometimes.
You gotta get creative when it comes to avoiding a move that will easily counter predictable players…because again I say that if Ryu/Ken lands one knockdown move on Claw, it’s going to be very hard for Claw to get out of the FB/DP zone.
Read “The Inevitable Tier Thread.”. People are discussing the Vega vs. Honda matchup right now. In general…just read all of the threads…even the characters that you don’t play. You’d be surprised how many times secrets to your matchup are given away there.
