Vega (Claw) Thread

Sorry bout that, I think we tried to post at the same time.

Does cr. Fierce have a purpose?

AA at times. Though I prefer st. HK, then flip kick

punishing baited dps and flash kicks after a shallow wall dive

Oh god yes, it keeps the pressure on.

c. FP has it’s uses just not up on them, ironicly if Vega is clawless THEN c. FP hits upclose.

Super Far Away AA, I would never trust c FP for AA… Standing RK all day.

Is it me or does the flip kick suck in this game?!, I always trade with it only Standing RK gives me clean and reliable AA hits…maybe I’m doing it too late?

flip kick’s the same as always, sans the deletion of the storage.

That’s the thing, I never played ST f’real before, I had an SNES as a kid, I went from SSF2 to Alpha 2 (yes I had A2 on SNES)… ST and A1 are the “forgotten” SF’s of my life

Truth be told my first time ever playing ST was on Street Fighter Collections on PS1…and I bought that for Alpha 2 Gold so needless to say it didn’t get much play.

glad you’re spending time on this gem. welcome aboard. :china:

shouldn’t you be sparring with aznhitler and co. now? :wonder:

c.HP is useful if you’re recovering from a move. If you try s.HK, you may not make it in time for its active phase to hit the air attack because claw’s standing hitbox is so tall. But if you duck and throw out c.HP, you have a greater chance to hit. Plus, it works more effectively on certain air attacks.

Guile isn’t a tough match if you stick to ground basics. Only if he tries to mount a fancy offensive should you wall dive him.

I don’t know if anybody’s tested this out yet but in the Blanka match-up, apparently you can punish a horizontal roll with cr. mp…this happend a few times online before and I haven’t got a chance to practice it yet. If anyone could test this to make sure…if it works then the Blanka match just got a hell of a lot easier. As far as Honda goes, I’ve noticed that his anti air special (don’t know the name of it) there’s a point between where he goes up and comes down where he can apparently be hit or thrown like a helpless puppy in the sky. Don’t know if this was in ST but felt like pointing that out.

yes, that’s worked since ST. c.MP is great.

and yes to the second question also. Blanka’s vulnerable to it after he flips out.

Blanka: Yeah, c.MP worked for me as well but, whether due to lag or not, it didn’t always connect for me. Definitely worth a further look though. Still an annoying turtling match though.

Honda: Yup, Honda has always had plenty of open spots on the sumo smash. Baiting that shouldn’t really be your strategy though.

What punishes Cannon Drill now? I tried cr. MP and sometimes it worked and other times I ate follow up Thrust Kick. Should cr. MP always work and was it just lag, or is cr. MP not guaranteed after a blocked Cannon Drill?

it’s relatively safe now, so i wait for her to mount the next string before i see if she does:

2nd cannon drill = c.MP
thrust kick = flip kick

Depends on the drill, The only one that is sorta safe I think is the weak one anything else is slide bait.

slide into a thrust kick in your face.

…again, depends on spacing.

taken from Sirlin’s Blog:

*Cammy?s biggest change is that her cannon drills are now much more safe on block. (Trivia: this is the second change I attempted to make in the game, only weeks later did I finally figure out how to do this one.) In ST, cannon drills could be safe on block only from a very particular distance. Now there is much more leeway so with a little knowledge of ranges and which strength to use, you can make this move safe on block every time. Note that as before, it?s very vulnerable at the top so jumping straight up and attacking as you come down is a counter.

The safe cannon drill lets Cammy really put the pressure on. From the right range, she can do pressure strings such as cannon drill, cannon drill, low forward (for spacing), cannon drill, low short, low forward, cannon drill, cannon drill, etc. And as soon as they hesitate, Hooligan Throw.

Former Evolution world champion Tokido said that Cammy worried him the most of any character. ?Too easy? he said. When I asked what he suggested I do, he thought for a while and then said that increasing recovery on cannon drill would make her terrible again, so ?maybe it?s ok to have an easy character after all.? A closer look at the move shows that you can actually dragon punch it during several points in that pressure sequence, but it is admittedly hard to hit otherwise. As a result, I lowered the priority in the front of the short version of the cannon drill. The short version is the one you can do repeatedly because after you do it, you?re in a pretty good position to do it again. If you commit to doing just this move, the opponent should now be able to hit you out with the right move.*

…basically, the mind game is that if Vega anticipates a cannon drill, he can just jump up and come down with a j.FK or j.FP.

…but…

if Cammy doesn’t do that, she can FK thrust kick your ass. jumping on Cammy can be tricky.
or, if her spacing is right, she can mount a pressure string.

mind games, son!

Actually blanka’s roll feels alot like the HF vers blanka… you take half a step and cr.Strong worked so far for me… about 80% sure it works.

I’ve been playing the wrong people then, Every Cannon Drill has been all up on me…after I block I nail a slide.

LOL you mean scrubby Cammys? D:

Keits has been experimenting with Cammy lately; hit him up. He plays smart.

personally i wait for the second action they make after the cannon drill before i decide a course of action; i play rather reactively to this matchup, though. of course, i also pay attention to the spacing. if the Cammy player is doing point-blank cannon drills, then please do punish them, lol (i use c.MK, c.MP for a bit more damage than just the slide).

Yep, scrubs lol in all fairness I’m not all that myself…in the grand world of street fighter I’d call myself Mid Tier, maybe High Mid when I’m in the zone.

It’s been a good 4 or 5 years since I played fighters with a real mindframe of winning. The last game I was good at was CvS2 and I ain’t played that f’real (Tournys and shit) since 2004.

When I moved to Houston it was to get my life right and grow the fuck up, games didn’t fit now I’m straight and I want back in :nunchuck:
