Vega (Claw) Thread

Go ahead. I only speak truth my friend.

I’ve been experimenting with the “Bird Cage” thingie, and it is made of awesome I love Vega’s ground game. But I have some questions about the trap.

Best way to counter someone who is trying to jump away?

Jab Shoryuken is a pain in the ass…solutions?

Thnx in advance

why the hell do you own a ps3? i’m on xbox live all the time i had no idea you upgraded to next gen. damn and i didnt know you played vega, thought you were a sissy chun player all this time.

yes i play vega too:woot:

I like how you broke these down. I use a pretty even balance of all three though I tend to play rush down a lot then sit and bait and repeat.

what was the T-Hawk doing that was so difficult to stop? post some things that are giving you trouble and ill try to post some answers.

Had a tournament at my place last night, and got destroyed by the same Boxer player twice. Lost two, then three straight. Flip kicks got baited hard, cuz I don’t know what else to do against the low rush but try and flip kick it, and once he noticed baiting whiffed kicks wasn’t hard. Once I block a low rush I don’t know what to do and I get poked / counterhit / more rushed to death. KKK/PPP flipping away from the rushes kinda worked, but it wasn’t getting me anywhere in terms of winning the round. I know Boxer’s tops easy, so the fight’s gonna be hard, but I need some general gameplan. Right now I think I am too aggressive with my poking, trying to keep HIM locked down. Anyone got some good anti-boxer stuff? Using the fake dive to bait headbutts worked really well, but I was never in a position to punish them.

^ cr.MP beats rush punches but looses to boxers cr.MP. I try to stay away in this matchup and play defensive because trading any hit is vastly in his favor. If you knock him down you can play wake-up games against him because his headbutt has so may frames were it can’t hit you, but it always feels risky to me. I just don’t like boxer up close.

Boxers best escape from a meaty walldive is a f.headbutt. but it moves him very far forward so maybe claw can fake and then slide, but I don’t see many boxers online so i have not tested it. Don’t see why it wouldn’t work though.

you gotta implement all of his normals in this match vs balrog, not just c.lp and c.mp

throw in some standing mps, standing hps, standing mks after your c.lps and c.mps.

after you get him to stop pressing buttons, then you can jump in on him, throw him or whatever.

On the subject of claw-boxer, now that boxer can’t negative edge into dash punches, the match should be just a touch easier. In addition, the new backflip control scheme now gives you 3 chances to reversal out of stuff like the grabs. However, because of the new commands, the B&B claw combo (j.HP,c.MK,c.MP) also got more annoyingly difficult since trying to follow up the c.MP after c.MK too quickly will just result in a backflip.

Boxer c.MK owns Claw free.

Who are Vega’s 3 worst matchups (besides Akuma)?

Bison (Dictator), Honda, and I don’t think there’s another 3rd character that is a horrible matchup for Vega. To me however, Chun Li is very 50/50, and Blanka can be as well.

To me Dictator, Boxer, Honda.

Agreed. Dic, Boxer, Honda.

I play a mix of one and three. I hardly ever use his specials off the wall…thats not saying I don’t use them though.

I’ve had a bit of luck using his cr. slide if you can catch Ryu/Ken on the way down. I never realized how useful that slide can be.

I had a pretty good day playing.

So after digesting some great info in this thread to help me improve my game I proceeded to get absolutely curb stomped by an excellent player this evening. I was able to use some of what I learned here…but it was a stomping nonetheless.

Practice practice practice.

Ok guys, I made a post regarding the Vega (Claw) desync issue over at the Capcom-Unity forums.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/street_fighter/go/thread/view/7411/5502307/Patch_The_Vega_Claw_Desync_Issue

Go post your experiences and expectations! Let’s get this patched!

i’m gonna try to break down the matchups and the styles i use for each

shotos: mix of all 3. with style 3 being the most important and style 1 being the least. kens an exception, with style 2 being the least important for him

chun: mix of style 2 and 3. chuns normals are really good so i think you’ll end up trading most of the time if you decide to peck her to death and also because of her lightning legs

guile: mix of style 1 and 3. when you’re ahead on health, guile cant do much about style 3.

blanka: style 3. flip kicks are really important in this match. wall dives are almost useless. he has too many answers to your wall dive BS.

bison: mix of style 1 and 2, focusing on style 2. bisons reversal is still subpar compared to others so wall dives are still good vs him but be careful not to get it telegraphed. its hard to turtle vs bison so style 3 isn’t too effective. its a hard match overall.

balrog: style 1. wall dives are hard to hit on him since his headbutt avoids it so well. however, your normals have more range than his and he can’t duck your standing mp so poke away.

**zangief: **style 1. wall dives arent as effective anymore since it doesnt knockdown and his c.hp and lariat are pretty effective vs it. however, he still gets poked to death. it hard to turtle vs gief since his jump ins can hit you where your flip kick will miss and 2 air hp/hk from him = dizzy vega. standing hk is a good anti air vs him. however, it trades most of the time.

t hawk: style 1 and 3. t hawks ground normals are subpar besides his c.lp so you can poke away being careful of his dp. turtling helps a lot too. flip kick is really good vs his jump ins and dive, and so is jump back hp/hk
**
cammy:** style 3 and 2, emphasizing on 3. wall dives are good but the range on the cannon spike makes that move not so easy vs her. her ground game is fairly strong vs yours, but you’re still faster than her and have more range, so just be patient and you’ll do fine.

sagat: style 3 then 2, stray tiger uppercuts are too strong to be using style 1. you should have an easier time dealing with his fbs than any other character in the game if you just play patiently. after you train your opponent not to tiger uppercut, then you can utilize those wall dives.

deejay: mix of all 3. wall dives are good if you target the back of deejays head when he does the helicopter kick and just good in general if you know how to avoid the helicopter kick. he’ll still have many answers to your wall dive so its best spam that move.

**honda: **mix of style 3 and 2. wall dives no longer knocking down makes this match significantly harder. take advantage of your speed. style 1 doesnt work too well as he can easily headbutt/slap you out of your pokes and it hurts!

fei long: style 3. its really hard for fei long to get it against a turtling vega.

dhalsim: style 2. wall dives are still really good vs him since hes so slow.
**
vega:** i hate mirror matches, but definitely style 2, then 1. whoever gets the flow of the wall dive down first wins.

any comments?

For Zangief, if you walldive just make sure hit him with the tip of your claw. That means you don’t fly close to him and do deep walldive claw in hopes for a throw, cause you’re gonna get punched in the mouth. When you walldive, make it so you’re far away enough that just the tip of the claw will poke him. Sometimes, he’ll eat it. But as was mentioned, walldives don’t knockdown, so it’s only good for some possible damage. I believe the startup of Lariat beats it, or possibly the whole thing o_o

Jumping back FP stuffs honda headbutts and psycho crushers.

And don’t ever walldive at blanka. You’ll fail every time.

Lariat will not beat max range tip of claw wall dives, didn’t in OG and still doesn’t here. c.fp will beat them now, so be careful.
