Vega (Claw) Thread

I’ve had a ton of success using Claw online (and by success, I mean people either ragequit or just put down their controller and let me wail on them.)

I saw a post where someone mentiono Cr.FP as being a good anti-air, and I’d like to say that flip kick (Not the backwards flip) is like the answer to all of life’s problems. If I get knocked down, people always think they can jump at me, and doing wake-up RH Flip kick and comboing it into another flip kick is like the godliest thing I could ask for. Not to mention the enormous amounts of damage it does.

Everytime I hit somebody with slide, I always go in for a FP Vega Ball. I know that often times, people might reversal out of it. But the reward is greater than the risk in my opinion, because if they try and reversal and it hits you can most of the time, combo a Cr.MP at the end. If they block it, throw out the Cr.MP anyway, people fall for it. If you’re extra fancy, throw in a jab vega ball after the cr.MP (though people will sometimes stuff it).

If the Fierce punch vega ball hits and you get the Cr.MP at the end of it, even if it doesn’t combo 8 times out of 10 it’s gonnna dizzy your opponent. If you have super, this is the best time to use it. Even if you don’t have super, go in for wall dive throw. Does enormous amounts of damage and you get the extra wall dive shenanigan when they wake up. If you’re lucky, they’ll jump and you can get in the throw or just get the knockdown.

Most of this info has probably already been posted in the 9 pages of this thread, but honestly all this information is useful anyway so it’s not a bad thing.

Oh, and jump back FP will stuff Honda Headbutts and Bison Psycho Crushers.

Turtle the entire match and punish fierce ball with c.MP. The point of this match is to make Blanka move forward. d/b the entire time and if he jumps, you have flip kicks.

Both c.HP and s.HK are good anti airs, but only at fair distance. Flip kick is not the answer on knock down. You wanna back flip reversal(3P version) to build space and get that c.MP going. Good players won’t jump in on you meaty half the time.

Yeah, all of that you mentioned there is obvious stuff to do with Claw, but NEVER go for meaty HP roll. Not straight up at least. You can delay it about like, half a second and then do it to throw off the reversal timing. But you also want to mix it up and bait DP.

It’s good against Psycho Crusher, but when will Bison throw out a random Psycho Crusher? Only time that happens if you’re going for wall dive and he goes for fierce Psycho Crusher.

I’m not sure if you are joking or not, but just in case you aren’t… I thought that too until I realized that it was being caused by de-syncs. Basically, on your screen, you are fighting them, but on their screen, maybe you’ve already died or something… so they stop playing and on your screen they are just standing there. I seriously thought people just gave up on me or figured they needed to give me free rounds until I heard all about this de-sync. Basically, when you see your opponent either start to stand there and do nothing or start playing like a moron after they’ve already been playing really well, it’s usually caused by de-syncs.

Yeah, nothingxs explained this to me yesterday. I heard there were desyncs, but I didn’t think it’d be that bad

This only happened to me in ranked matches though. In player matches, people seem to fight against me fine. I haven’t had a single desync.

I’ve stopped playing ranked matches, however, considering my rating is 0.

I’ve gotten it in Player matches as well. In fact, last night, DigitialBooty and I were talking on the headset, and we could confirm that we were seeing radically different things on our screens. The game was over for him (he won two rounds) and I was still in the 2nd Round with him at 60% like and me at 75% life with me winning the first round.

My credibility is going to shit now ._.

Just had a desync when playing LeRaldo online. This makes me sad because I do enjoy playing Claw as a sort of side-fun character.

Now I gotta stick with Ryu.

Sorry about that. That wasn’t my intention. But yeah, it makes me frustrated I can’t play Vega online at all. It’s irritating. I hope this gets patched soon.

Same, sometimes I go to his pic and remember, “oh yeah, can’t pick him” and I cry a small tear.

Sounds like this Vega desync issue is only happening on 360. Haven’t even seen it once on PS3.

Maybe it’s for the best, I make a hell of a lot more enemies playing Claw.

MMm, accidental claw softban. Win.

This happened to me about 5 times on PSN since Remix was released. How is it possible that one person sees themselves winning, but the other person is still fighting? Weird bug.

These kinds of things happen when a few events just don’t get sent over the connection.

Remember that you can jump off both walls. I just realized the potential and it has helped tremendously against Dragon Punches, since they can’t do it on reaction if you are flying to their wall.

What videos should I watch/look for if I want to see an excellent Vega?

Watch some ST videos of ARG.

"ARG uses the most reviled character in the game, but he nevertheless manages to win people over with his enthusiasm. Also, he specializes in Claw’s ground game as opposed to using the “hyou bal”* style. The highlight of ARG’s fighting style is his corner trap. Like trapped birds, his opponents flutter fruitlessly as they are stabbed to death. Fear the horrible “Bird Cage of the Claw.”

Thanks, will have to check him out!

vega is probably the funnest character in st. he can run, he can rush(sorta) or he can cheeze you to death. whats not to like?

theres 3 modes of vega. actually 2 1/2 now in hd remix.

mode 1.
bird cage style like ARG. you poke them to death with your normals and try to trap them in the corner. then sneak in some walk up throws
i find this style most useful vs balrog and guile

mode 2.
hyou-bol style like noguchi. this implements on that wall dive BS. since the dive doesnt knock down anymore, this style is not as dominant anymore.
this style is most useful vs dhalsim and sagat. (be careful of stray tiger uppercuts)

mode 3.
ninja turtle style. this style, you play mostly defense and counter attack your opponents move with your speed and range. flip kicks are a must.
this style helps a lot vs chun li and blanka.

most characters, i use a combination of the three or all three sometimes depending on the opponent.

What are some thing’s I need to know in order to learn Claw?

I never really played Super Turbo or tried to learn it. I was always more into CvS2, 3s, GG, and Soul Calibur.

Since HD Remix’s relase, I figure this is my chance to get more involved in the ST scene, but damn is it hard. I suck honestly, but damn I would have figured just my general experience with fighting games would have helped me a lot more. Surely there can’t be THAT many good players online. Guys that were doing shit, and I absolutely couldn’t anything about it. The biggest offender was this T-Hawk player, that raped me so hard I cursed out loud and my parents heard me. I figure a lot of my suckage is thinking I know what I’m doing just because I kinda know how to get around in Third Strike, and really not knowing how the ST system works. Losing in a videogame hasn’t made me this mad in a long time though.

In order to play Claw, you gotta learn how to be extra extra gay.

This quote is the truth.

Mind if I sig it?

In my personal opinion get the input for Flip Kick down 100%. It will save your life so many times when people try and jump in on you.

I am also looking for someone that plays Vega extremely well to play against/watch on XBL. PM me if you would like to help me out.
