Try to not end up in the uf direction, or else the game will interpret you wanted to do a qcf motion. En either in down-forward or forward, but don’t go beyond that.
I do pretty well at the low ranks or against people who maybe don’t know the matchup and against others in my local scene, but… i got totally bodied in this first to five. I dropped a bunch of chances for damage and idk what to attribute that to, but there are just things about the neutral game that i dont understand.
i feel like vega’s anti airs are so situational and so slow. This guy could jump in freely on me if he wanted to
How do i escape the super chip setup? do i v reversal the cr mk or the super? can this be done after the flash?
I’m dropping combos that’s obvious, but are there other times where i’m not taking advantage of damage? like anything i can do off of a poke cr mp?
Usually i can just play my own gameplan and force people to respect my buttons, but this guy set the pace of the match from the get go and I could never get it back from him. its like I was playing defensive the whole time…
truly want to get better because its an eye opening experience to see how bad i am
They aren’t really slow or bad. I have little issues with them. There is a weak spot where you can’t anti air, but HP ASE covers it, but only preemptively. Standing roundhouse is a good anti-air and you get the most damage, while clawless crouching hard punch is his most solid. Some matches you have to stick to c.fp in claw/clawless. When it comes to anti-air remember that air to air and his air throw are options as well. Jumping medium punch done instantly is insanely good. Other good buttons are j.lp, j.mk, jump back fp. When they do jump in you weak spot just slide under them.
You can V-Reversal after the flash.
Just practice your combos in training. Off crouching mp (claw) you don’t get much. If clawless you get another c.mp to roll if close enough.
That match was hard to watch as it was laggy as hell, thats one reason he walked all over you. It’s hard to play Vega online on anything less than a great connection because you have to react quick on whiff punishes and anti airs. Not really the best vid to give advice. Be familiar where you can interrupt block strings with s.lk. Vega has the best 3 frame normal in the game and is a huge tool to dealing with pressure. Anytime Ryu did a non-meaty s.mp for example you could have checked him with a s.lk.
I’ve been watching some Vegas and I’m wondering if anyone can explain what the deal is with the claw and mask falling off. It looks like after taking a certain amount of damage they pop off, first claw then mask. Is there any way to prevent this? Does swapping stances reset the durability or anything? Also does he gain any different properties with the mask off?
I never go air to air and I see a lot of Vega’s doing that so i;ll experiment more with that for sure. You said there is a weak spot which Vega can’t anti air – is that like slightly within sweep range or something?
for whatever reason I couldn’t time this reversal correctly in the match. which of the v reversals do you use or does it not matter
yeah at this point I keep it simple with combos. I usually do these
CLAW
[] cr lp cr lp xx lk roll
[] st hp xx lp ASE
[] st hp st hp V skill
[] st hk crush counter, st hk cr lp xx ex FBA

st hp SC,cr mp xx mk roll
BARE HAND
[] cr mk, cr mp xx mk roll
[] st mp, st hk ex FBA
[] cr lp cr lp xx lk roll
[] st hk crush counter, st hk cr lp xx ex FBA
Any other combos that you think are essential? obviously some of these specials are interchangeable with roll or FBA, but yeah just looking at having a solid list of bnbs for a variety of situations. I know I can do st lk cr lp as a counter string yet I really haven’t drilled that into my game yet. I certainly need to if st lk is that good
Do you know Vega’s claw switch combos and optimal crush counter combos? That’s about all that you’re missing and it’s only for specific situations where you want max damage.
I only know st HP SC, cr mp xx special. IS there another useful claw switch combo? (i know there is the one on counter hit but I prefer the crush counter st hk one to that)
as for the crush counter ones, I know there are a variety of options but I don’t know which is optimal. I always resort to st HK, (CC) st hk , cr lp xx ex FBA because it works in both stances and has good range. Whats another good option?
His optimal crush counter combos are different depending on whether you want max stun or max damage. General consensus is that max stun is better since you don’t sacrifice much damage.
Claw off: HK > HK > LP > c.MP > EX FBA
Claw on: HK > HP > Claw Switch > LP > c.MP > EX FBA
It’s good to note that on counter hit, HP > ClS Switch combos into c.MK then target combo into EX FBA. That’ll net you max damage for a punish.
Hey guys…a question about game mechanics…so do some normals force the opponent to stand on counterhit?..i was practicing meaty cmk and st mk in the tranning room…i set the dummy to crouch and lp on wake up…after every counterhit either with cmk and st mk i was able to do tech combo into ex FBA…clawed st mp also seemed to stand the dummy on counterhit…is this a thing or did i messed up with the dummy somehow?
I think you messed up the dummy. I just tested this in training mode as my computer is near my game. Neither cr.MK nor st.MK force the opponent to stand on counter hit or regular hit. Claw st.MP failed to do the same thing. However, cr.MK links into claw st.HP on counter hit. Claw St.HP forces the victim to stand so that’s why you were able to combo into EX FBA.
Claw St.HP and Clawless cr.HP are the only normals Vega has that force the opponent into a standing position.
Everytime I have a Dhalsim play me as Vega, they LOVES to teleport. I actually have a handful of Dhalsim fights. more losses than wins, but I can put them together and show what works and what doesnt. One thing I notice is that when he jumps, he is in the air FOREVER. Punish that. Easiest way is EX FBA.
IIRC, in games past, when Vega lost his claw, his attack went down. When he lost his mask, his defense went down, but attack went up? I have been doing a rotation of claw and clawless throughout rounds so I can switch to the claw at the end of the round cause if this line of thought is true, then attack goes even higher with the claw and no mask.
Depends on who you are playing and what they do on wakeup? People who just block can be thrown very easily. You could LK roll to the other side and try a meaty combo. My favorite are peeps who try to punish on wake up with DP or flash kick, then counter.
This. I had a Ryu doing nothing but v skill and was taking all my hits. Even FBA and EX-FBA. So I just started izuna dropping him and wouldnt you know. He stopped using his v skill.
