Vega AE Updates preview

Yeah it shows it well, but I already said that it’ll work on characters with bad footsies and walk speed.

I can’t imagine hitting anyone from Vanilla with it. But obviously I was in the dark on this and you showed me some reliable set ups in that video. I didn’t know those existed. I remain skeptic as to its uses against any of the dominant charge characters and shotos who can poke / crouch under it.

EDIT: Obviously I was wrong about there not being set ups for this as Kamisama just showed me otherwise. I apologize for being patronizing in some ways but that’s because when I talk about Street Fighter I tend to be rather indreculous. I didn’t mean any harm but it’s impossible for me to not think like that when I am confronted with something like that I don’t know much about. Sorry. I got crazy when Kouryuu said “Alot to learn about Vega”. I have the fire in my eyes for this weeks tournament. Now, I have one more tool in my arsenal. No one shall question me! =(

Anyway, it looks like there are set ups for an even cosmic heel in AE. You can still OS Tech making it super safe, so I think that’s still pretty boss. On top of a solid poke game from c. mk I am still all for the new Vega.

This post is not necessarily directed at Joz but to anyone interested in usage of CH.

Ahh… I’m glad you see now Jozhear that CH is a viable frame trap. Whether you follow it up after a st.lk, meaty cr.mk or a level to FA (just to name a few), it works as a frame trap quite well. Especially if spaced (as Duey explained above and examples shown by Alex). If you wish, I can show you many examples as well (vids of Makoto, Cat-K, Nao, Reiketsu etc. using it as a viable frame trap. I even noticed Tatsu pull of some nice traps with CH this past weekend at SCR). And IMO, it’s not about style, it’s a viable tactic that should be incorporated into any Vega players game if they wish to use the character to maximum efficiency.

But let me explain to you what makes CH such a strong, and rather one of Vega’s most abused, poke. It’s his BEST tool to punish OS techs from kara throw range. Vega, is at his strongest when he pressures an opponent with pokes from within kara throw range. He can position an opponent and set them up for strong tick throw set ups. Most opponents who know the match up well enough will usually tech when Vega pressures them at said range in fear of a Kara throw. That’s when you start to mix in CH in your offense. It blows up OS techs and leaves opponents vulnerable to a strong mix up. Whether Ryu [for example] decides to tech with cr.mp or any other poke, you’ll end up beating it clean. It catches backdashes/jumps and he can’t be command thrown out of it either when he leaves the ground. On hit, it deals solid meter-less damage. On block, you’re safe. It’s a tried and true tool that Japanese Vega’s have been abusing for over a year now, since Vanilla. I’ll gladly show you TONS of vids demonstrating it’s uses if you’re interested (it’s all over Youtube). Watch Cat-K in Vanilla (he made walk up CH look so gdlk lol).

That’s the main utility for CH.

As far as footsies goes, it has amazing range and can beat many pokes (e.g. Ryu’s cr.mk, Chun’s st.mp, etc.) clean. Of course, it’s only strong as a footsie tool when it’s spaced but that shouldn’t be much of a problem since spacing is crucial in footsies (duh…). Of course, it’s not Vega’s strongest footsie tool but still strong nonetheless.

I hope it makes sense now. Before, when Vega goes for a CH during his offense, and is blocked, he is safe. Now, he’s left at a punishable disadvantage. It’s neither as strong nor reliable as a way to open people up during pressure. It’s just as much as a risk for you as it is for your opponent to tech (actually worse, since you can eat a much more devastating combo).

Edit: I’m just going to post some vids anyway just in case anyone is interested:

(check out the first match. He used the tactic I explained above many times throughout the vid but check out 1:33. It’s rape. 2:15 demonstrates it’s potential as a footsie tool).

Makoto is godlike. Especially the match against Tokido.

Pretty much Makoto pulling the same trick against Uryo in Super. Blowing up OS techs all dai!!

The reason I’m so upset over the nerf is because it’s one of my main tools that I abuse when I get in on my opponents and open them up for damage. It truly helps me secure 70% of my tournament wins. Especially against the stronger players in Socal. It’s definitely not a nerf that I can see myself dealing with.

Sorry double post.

Dudley doesn’t have any crossups iirc either. And just like Vega, he has a few tools that don’t require that he need to crossup.

How’d you do at SCR?

I must admit that the crouching LK crossup against blanka was beautiful lol

Dudley has a setup that allows him to crossup with j.lk.

Hey man i just started playing abit again and noticed you’re never on. What you been up to? You and Assassin Jay have been missing it seems.

Sorry man. I quit a few months ago lol. I was planning on waiting till the AE edition came out and maybe to start back up again, but I doubt I’ll get back to it. I am not going to like the new Vega. There is no replacement for CH (which I spent so much work on), and now his ultras are even less reliable? No thank you.

Oh okay that sucks cuz i decided to play again and i wanted to play against you so i can learn some of the CH tricks that you do. You and Jay are the only ones that have ever successfully pull that off against me consistently lol

But i guess there’s no reason to learn it at this point since it’s getting nerfed…

That sucks, miss your informative posts here. Yeah it’s too bad, I was just starting to work this stuff into my game but now it might go out the window. Oh well.

Buddha, I think Assassin Jay got suspended from XBL a while back, haven’t seen him since.

Assasin stoped playing remember. Said he got a job and started partying more.

@Buddah

I dont appreciate your Akuma beating on my Sagat.

@Duey

Its a shame Alex quit. But i dont blame him the community is really retarded here.

@Alex

if you do play, just play for yourself and only help or contribute for those that ask right? I mean if someones asking im sure they are going to listen and be appreciative.

@Fracys

In AE he should get a damn cross up. He doesnt have the tools to not warrant one anymore.

@Vega forums

i dropped Vega. Im maining Sagat now. No use in getting better or figuring out new options with him if he isnt the same character any more. If you still want to play my Vega though just tell me though.

I havent fought Sagat with Akuma for so long, i forgot how fun it can be. (For akuma)
But it’s been so long that i forgot that the jab->rh loop doesnt work anymore in Super but i kept trying to do it anyway since its a habit now…lol

crossup lk works on quite a few standing characters, very hard to space though

i notice that too

nothing @ me?

Good luck to you, Pedoviejo. Thanks for all the useful stuff you’ve posted on these boards.

He’ll be back :wink: Vega is too pimp.

DLC for AE is probably a good 8 months away anyway I bet.

To be honest, I want to know what tools you are refering to, because I don’t see a well established reason on why Vega doesn’t have a cross up, but so many do. On the note with dudley, I don’t see why that justifies vega not having a cross up.

They didn’t let me enter since I arrived 20 minutes late (on site registration).

So I was left watching all the other Vega players play (Tatsu, Arlieth, etc.). Sucks because I trained real hard for that tournament and was extremely confident in making it pretty far in my bracket… but I ended up playing Cammy in casuals and got a ridiculously long win streak. Xbox + no lag moniters = heaven. Sako combos all day!

Nowadays I only exclusively play Cammy offline. I planned on using only Vega for SCR but since that’s over (and after reading the AE changes), I have no reason to improve with him anymore. Cammy is more fun anyway. She’s definitely a potential main for me in AE, especially if I’m not fond with Yang (or any other new character they add).
