I am the Same, I’ve even been converted to playing Smash with the Classic Controller…the greatest button lay out ever
i think the gamecube controller works really well for this game.
How can I use a PS2 pad/stick with the Wii? Do I need a GC–>PS2 cable converter thingy? If so which one is recommended?
Alright, I’ve been practicing all the stuff, I’m able to excute basic combos effortlessly, and some complicated combos in training mode, so, I’m learning the basics, I mean I still suck, but it’s a start. Anyways, I really wanna learn about this Baroque thing, like, when do I want to do it, like can you give me an example, preferably something with Roll, maybe something I could practice. Also, I like Tekkaman a lot, I think he works well with roll, at least their combination special really does.
Baroque lets you keep your moves safe by cancelling them, or lets you extend combos in the same way. We usually abbreviate it as BBQ. With roll, a couple combos you can use are something like:
2a,2b,5c BBQ 3c, jump, air combo of your choice
or
2a,2b,4c, a version roll sweep, BBQ, 4c, a version roll sweep, turbo sweep.
In a nutshell…
you can use baroque whenever you have red life. This means you have to get hit or use megacrash. It uses up your current red life when you activate it.
Baroque when activated, completely cancels your current animation and returns you to a neutral position. So if your opponent was stunned at the end of your combo and you activate baroque, you can start your combo all over again.
Finally, baroque increases or decreases your damage output depending on how much red life you have. If you only have a sliver of red life, all attacks will be very weak. If you have a lot of red life, all attacks will be very powerful.
Usually if you only have a small amount, you should be using it to keep your attacks safe by cancelling out of laggy moves. If you have a lot, you should try to baroque in a combo to get a lot of damage on your opponent (but be careful if they have enough meter to mega-crash. Then you might waste it all.)
This one all the way:

Looks like Play-Asia sells it new for the cheapest price I’ve seen.
Works with any PSX or PS2 controller. Even works with PSX sticks (i.e. T5 Anniversary Stick), wireless PS2 controllers (i.e. Logitech controller) and the black Mayflash PS2/PS3 stick! Be prepared for 3 week minimum on the shipping, though.
I’ve still been playing, just checking in, I’m getting better, I can beat that boss, lol… I dunno, I’m getting better but I still am having a lot of trouble understanding the technical jargon and slang of TvC, understanding reading combos is hard, reading the numbers fluently. Can someone translate this combo for me… like with out the numbers…
2a 5b 2b 5c (2 hits) 236a xx BBQ dash 2a 5b 2b 5c p xx 63214b, dash 2a 5b 2b 5c 3c jump a b b jump b 236c xx (on landing) 623ab
You should really get used to the numbers, just look at the numpad on your keyboard. However, I will do this just once.
:d::snka:, :snkb:, :d::snkb:, :snkc:(2 hits), :qcf::snka:, baroque, :r::r:, :d::snka:, :snkb:, :d::snkb:, :snkc:, :snkd:, :hcb::snkb:, :r::r:, :d::snka:, :snkb:, :d::snkb:, :snkc:(2 hits), :df::snkc:, :u:, :snka:, :snkb:, :snkb:, :u:, :snkb:, :qcf::snkc:, (on landing) :dp::2p:
And for the record, you have to hit the partner button immediately after you hit the C button, not after he executes the attack, otherwise it won’t combo.
is that casshern? if so, is that combo really more damaging than doing his other super instead of the launch? ive never bothered looking at the numbers too closely but thought it was better to go without the launch, do his other super, then start setting up to catch them with the unblockable.
I think he posted that combo just as an example. But to answer your question, I think any combo with Casshern’s 623+2 attacks super is generally weaker than any combo with 41236+2 attacks super, especially when you bring it to the corner and extend the combo with j.236A to BRQ and/or assist to relaunch/re-combo.
Setting up for the unblockable is usually only guaranteed after killing off one character and sending firebreath C Friender and also, optionally, your assist. If you try doing Casshern’s unblockable setup mid-match, I’ve seen push-blocking and super-jumping as defenses against it.
Thanks, a lot (like for real), yeah, I know it’s asking a lot, I’m studying these numbers, but I’m also studying political science. Yeah, the numbers are great short hand when I think about it.
yeah, i know its not a great idea to pull it out mid match, but reckless behavior like that works every so often since people dont expect it. i’ve landed it a surprising amount of times, usually because that combo gets them in the corner pretty good and i use the dog and assists.
god i cant wait for this game to get some online play…
Your youtube channel is very helpful yourmother, very very helpful.
I posted this up in the casshern thread a while back but the damage breaks down like this.
If you only do one repetition of the ground chain (2a,b,2b,c), you do more damage simply by hitting a 236A, 236A+B.
However, if you extend the combo with an assist or a baroque and do multiple ground chains, scaling favors the air combo into j.236C into 623A+B.
The best damage you can get in the corner is a j.a,a,b,b,c, land, j.236A to restand at which point you can redo ground chains using baroque or assist, or just cancel to super. It’s harder, and corner only, but worth it.
And yeah, don’t try to unblockable against a decent opponent mid match, it’s just asking to get your ass kicked. Both the dog and the punch charge can be seen, pushblocked, and punished from a mile away, not to mention just rolling on wakeup.
Also, glad you like the channel, it’s a little dead now until UAS drops, but then I’ll try to start posting up a bunch of stuff.
Yeah, the channel is really cool, I love the commentary, a lot, I am looking forward to seeing more stuff but I guess I’ll have to wait for the US copy to drop.
Wow, I just checked out yourmother’s YT channel. I’ve been looking for a good source of TvC match videos, and I think I found one.
Thanks.
Just checking in, I’m really beginning to learn stuff now, I’m able to do that 70+ hit Casshern/Roll combo effortlessly, as well as some other basic combos, I’m getting guarding and approaching down too. Now I’m really trying to focus on Baroque, how situational is it? How do I know when the situation presents itself?
baroque is situational and versitle. Pretty much has 3 purposes, making a move safe, extending combos, and doing mixups.
combos are useless with low baroque, but things like karas megacrash stuff also exists which can build up more BBQ for more damage, and an infinite could be worth it just for the meter building and your opponent losing all there meter to megacrash out.
making a move safe can be worth a large amount of baroque if you think youll end up taking tons of damage otherwise, but you lose some comeback potential i guess.
throwing a fireball and baroquing can make approaches safer.
doing mixups is character specific, and can be hard, not too many known practical baroque resets exist and you need to keep track of whither or not it is worth losing guaranteed damage which depends on both red life and your opponents life.
doing something like rolls forward broom bbq into lows into super, is pretty good cuz since it goes into super, baroque scaling doesn’t matter much.
so do something like… charge broom… roll sweep… bbq… 2a… 2b… 2c… super sweep? Is that what you are saying? Why wouldn’t I put in another roll sweep before the super sweep, could I do that too? What are some other examples?
