The throw system in this game is horrible on-line.
Is there a way to return to neutral after dashing? Really weird not being able to cancel a Dash into a Jump or Crouch w/o jabbing first. I play BB if that matters
B and DB will cancel your dash, so you can get crouching attacks out this way. UB will cancel it too…
I changed my hand position and now I get it 100% of the time…
Inputs like this…
down
lk - thumb
hp - pinky (just flick your wrist)
lp ~ lp - piano index and middle fingers.
down/forward
then lk ~ hp - thumb ~ pinky (same wrist flick)
It’s a very smooth and linear motion that just works naturally.
To practice the motion smoothly, I was going: lk~hp~lp~lp and then practice separately d/f~lk~hp
Then practice it as lp~lp~d/f~lk~hp (just the DI)
Then just put it all together and it works so simply.
What I find the nice thing about using my pink for the HP is that if I don’t get the hit, but my hand is in the motion to go hit it, I just move my arm a bit and i avoid the HP, so just the c.lk, c.hp comes out and I can do something else. It’s good for error-proofing your hit confirms.

This game has some interesting differences in regards to Savior. With most of the basic mechanics aside I noticed three main things.
Fireballs - Remember in SFA3, they tried to nerf the keep-away spam fireball tradition dating all the way back to SF2? They did this by having fireballs in SFA3 do more damage from closer range, resulting in a max range fireball doing the least amount of damage. It appears Hunter predates this concept by 3 years. I will add in SFA3 a max range fireball did like nill damage. This not the case in Hunter, if anything it does maybe 2-5 points less of damage from max range. Nonetheless interesting. Now in Savior this isn’t the case, fireballs have a pre-set damage percentage.
Hit boxes - I can only get my hands on some of the Savior hit boxes and all of the Hunter ones. And it seems “almost” universal that “almost” all hit boxes for the characters shrank in Savior. Now I stress the almost, so no one calls me out if I were to say all hit boxes. Hit boxes are not my expertise and am aware they can change through editions, but not by this much. I figured it’d be like “so and so’s particular move has way too much range, shrink it by half or something, meanwhile this character’s normals can stay the same.”
Damage - messing around in training mode the damage is random as all hell! Normals, throws, specials, supers do varying damage from 2 - 5 points in Hunter.
Few questions. I was watching MarMar play with Anakaris and he was doing a move where he teleported on top and came down with a pyramid. How do you do that? Also what is the version that people are playing the most Darkstalkers 2 or 3. And while no character will play like another character from a different game what is the character closest to Dhalsim?
That’d be his pursuit attack, after you knock down an opponent press Up + K. Most people are playing DS3 but there are a few who play DS2 (join us on the darkside facebook.com/groups/506266296102694/)
And Anakaris is by far the most like Dhalsim, range, slowness, floaty like jump.
Thanks man. I put the request in to join the group. I’m thinking I may join the darkside as I like the speed of street fighter as opposed to the marvel style play as mentioned in Darkstalkers 3. I’ll try both and see how it goes. And lastly any sites with Anakaris strats? Not quite sure how to play him. He seems like you have to be able to dash and keep pressure on your opponent. Besides his long normals he doesnt play like Dhalsim in the sense he is not a zoning/keep away character.
True, he doesn’t have the best tools for zoning. He does seem Dhalsim-ish to me in his overall feel and movement. Darkstalkers isn’t a zoning game but more about applying pressure and controlling space. He has some decent stuff for that like his mummy wrap, coffin drop, cobra blow and some of his normals. But yeah good luck zoning, you’d get wooped if you tried. And he’s not crap tier more mid-upper tier. Chikyuu is a good player and usually mains oddball characters.

So give that a try. Only vid I came across for Hunter, he plays more Savior it seems. You may want to take a look at those. Just keep in mind, there are some changes in Anakaris. In fact, I’m working on a guide comparing the character differences between game. I just started to touch Anakaris for it.
But most of the strat sites out there I’m coming across are all japanese.
Is it at all possible to instant air soul fist with Morrigan I was wondering?
Speaking of hitboxes, there were a couple Saturn games which let you view them. Not sure all of these combos work in the arcade version, but many of them look like they would.

For whatever reason, hitboxes tend to shrink over the course of a series, the way damage does- SF2 series, Alphas, SF3 series etc. I don’t know that the SF4s do things the same way.
Yeah not all of those combos work, Felicia cannot combo into her supers.
Bump
Started on the wiki, got all the movelists posted and started on Demitri a bit
http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Night_Warriors:_Darkstalkers'_Revenge
I wouldn’t say they shrank after 3s they stopped using small attack boxes and a shitty priority engine period as it was a failed experiment.
SF4 uses the same method as sfex for hitboxes. As they’re tied to the animation skeleton and are about like the alpha series hitboxes.
Anyone got some tips on Huitzil? B&B combos and what not? Thinking of maining him for 2nd after my Demitri
This game is really fun. I play it a lot online despite preferring other games… because ggpo is so good. GG’s to anyone i run into online. I play Demitri only

Well I played a few games of Savior on GGPO starting last month before I bought Resurrection on PSN.
I’ve been doing the tutorials on Darkstalkers 3 on resurrection, and I’ve noticed something strange.
It seems like If I press a button too fast right after a jump or a dash, it won’t come out. It feels like a dropped input. I even deliberately pushing the button after the direction / letting go of the direction / holding the direction etc…
I’ve come to the conclusion that jump / dashes have startup animation where any button presses will be dropped. is this true?
This was most noticable / annoying during the TK fireball tutorial for lilith (i’ve done TK many times in games, i had to slow down my inputs to get the fireball to come out)
as well, as BB hood’s infinite tutorial (it’s hard enough as it is already, I’ve only managed to get it ONCE. can’t get it 4 more times)
But i noticed that if i press punch too early after her dash her jab won’t come out at all.
are these isolated and character specific instances? does it occur with every character? are there other things that (coming mainly from ST, (but casually skullgirls, and the vs series) ) wouldn’t intuitively have startup where it wouldn’t accept button presses?
