The knife is fine as is. I feel like people who want knife buffs want to hold it for the entire match and that is not its purpose. I only use the knife when I want to mix up my footsies ranges and throw my opponent off balance.
If you skip to around 40 mins in the vid below you can hear Dawgtanian talking about a change to Cody in the current version of USFIV - FADC normal Zonk.
@GroundedSF Yay?
FADC Zonk kind of sucks.
- He can’t combo after since Zonk uses up 99 juggle points.
- It doesn’t help zonk usage at mid range since it’s still 26F recovery (more than a LP SRK, more than Ibuki’s Neck Breaker or Yun/Guy shoulder slam, or Abel’s Wheel Kick, or Dudley’s Ducking Straight, or Hakan’s oil slide, ect ect.)
- You’d have to commit to an FADC since Zonk is only 1 hit.
I hope they don’t think it’s much of a buff because it’s not. It’s SOMETHING but it’s not much.
Well you’d assume they’d change the juggle points, otherwise it wouldn’t be particularly interesting.
You can make it safe. I take that change with joy.
I just hope there is more.

Doesn’t sound like adjusting the JP is even in their thought process.
Only on forward dash would it be safer. Backdash would leave Cody MORE negative. Forward = -1F backward = -9F
Haha that’s terrible. I mean, that really is nothing. Even with the juggle potential, Zonk is such a bad move. If they give it a maybe 5 frame startup with invincibility until the active frames, then maybe. I mean, at the moment, you can’t use a fully charged Zonk to interrupt fake blockstrings like Yun’s shoulder from far st.mp, Chun’s overhead kick etc. Or blankas st.hp. It’s so shitty, it won’t even trade. Just flat out loses.
By the way, it’s good that you give your input to them via twitter, but at the same time, I’m scared shitless and surprised that they are this oblivious to these facts…
I didnt read a fucking thing in this thread, but im pissed. He only needs 1,2, or 3 things. Id be fucking happy with any.
- A fully invincible EX SLIDE --> WTF ex slide, nope hadouken still got you even though you anticipated it
- A fucking ultra that when the dust hits, THE REST HITS!
- a backdash…where the fuck is it? Its not like hes 7 feet tall like sagat or 300lbs like gief…cant he just dash back like a normal man would?
ps…im raging a little bit but seriously one of those makes sense and would be a game changer (and not in an overpowered way, we have no wakeups as it is) … blah blah blah post flame here yada
im angry
and by dust hits, i dont mean anti air. Im talking when your last hit or two of dust connects, but cody is still not running yet and then misses with his damn wrench…like what the hell. take away that hit, or let me finish my GD ultra
RAGE
What do you think, would Cody benefit from having both ultras available at the same time?
As some characters would be too strong(Gief), maybe they will allow ultra to be changed between rounds.
In that case, I would probably go with U2 in 1st round and U1 in 2nd.
IMO no. Each of the ultras is only good in specific matchups IMO. Plus if the rumor is true then having both ultras would nerf their damage and that in turn would weaken the limited use of Ultra 1. Maybe if U1 didn’t suffer so much from damage scaling and/or had meterless ways to combo into it consistently or ways cheaper than 2-3 bars.
More than some other characters who only get a miniture damage increase (Ryu/Evil Ryu for instance). You can use U1 for combo damage, and U2 for combo finishing, reversal, chip, anti projectile etc
U1 is overrated tho.
Cody’s U1 is far from useless like some characters alt Ultras. I just think he is one of the characters who wouldn’t really get any better with both ultras, he’d just end up being about the same. U1 doesn’t offer him anything he can’t already do or offer a sufficient threat of damage due to the situations required to combo into it. It isn’t bad but it doesn’t offer him much in the way of utility and losing damage on it would make it even less appealing.
I’d take a 506damage U2 alone over having like a 350damage U2 and a 320 damage U1.
That’s what I was trying to say. x)
Ok, but if I had 2-3 bars at the start of round 2, I would probably rather use U1 instead of U2 in that round.
If I am left without EX, I would probably switch back to U2 for 3rd round.
As it is now, I only use U1 in few matchups.
@Brentonen It’s worse than you think. The dust can connect, but sometimes even though the pipe connects, the opponent can block the rest of the pipe hits.
Yeah this happened to me vs Sagat recently.
@Techtun Yeah, I discovered it while practicing reacting to Sagat’s TS. It happened quite frequently too.
Ok guys, so the first change to Cody has been somewhat authenticated - and it’s the Zonk FADC. I would say that this change fixes Cody’s problems quite well and we can be satisfied now.
