Utah Thread: Arcade Edition @ GameGrid

I would’ve made the last tourney except that we had Midway scheduled for family time and General Conference about a month in advance. With this round of the tournament being on Saturday, there shouldn’t be a problem, schedule permitting. If I can go, Andrew can most likely go. Weekends usually work better for tournaments is all, especially with weird early morning work schedules. Not an excuse, just an explanation.

It’s great to hear that the tournament went so well and the setup sounds AWESOME! 20 people too! Take that, Gamestop.

And recording of matches…that would rock. It will help everyone to step up their game.

And about how to make the list…well, in the post section, there’s a # symbol right above the text window. It’ll wrap whatever text you’re writing in

tags, thus making a new, separate box where it can keep the spacing you want, because in the normal text window, any long spaces are automatically reformatted to keep the words close together. Unfortunately, you have to remember how far apart things are spaced. For example, here is the spacing order for the UTSF list. 10-14-17-17-15. This means that the Name SRKusername Xbox gamertag etc. is 10 spaces, 14 spaces, and 17 spaces long. Everything has to be exactly spaced that far apart to give the illusion of formatted columns. Kinda screwy, but the result is a clean-looking list.

So when are we going to have Rankings? It would certainly add to the hype and give the community their kings to dethrone, giving people more incentive to practice, train, and come out to events. It sounds like with tournaments won and just straight tournament placement that Brian would be at the top if we went retroactively, which I don’t have a problem doing; we need to start somewhere. I think that Kelly had the 10-7-3-1 idea for points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively; that would work. We’ve also kept good track of all the tournament we’ve held, so going back and totaling everything would be easy. We’d have to decide which tournaments to count, though; my vote would be all the non-GS tournaments (Andy’s, Nate’s, etc.) as that was when the UTSF scene really began and we could use our preferred controllers and sticks. Any complaints or can I just do it? I can add it to the list…:wgrin:…there’s room right after the Evo column…:wgrin: Or we can just start from here on out. Or not at all.

Anyone? Bueller?

I like the new list as well Dana, very readable.

Andy, when I can make it to Salt Lake, I’ll call you and see if your home to swing by and pick up the $$.

I don’t have a problem with the Rankings being proactive ^_^, we’d have to vote or something. I’d put the current RanBat score on the WAY left so nobody has to scroll.

Congrats to Brian, Matty, and Andy for placing top three at the last tourney, way to represent our group. I’ll get that Guile yet…just wait.

Finally finished my Sanwa button mod on my FS3! Man, it feels so much better. I am getting greedy now and will probably order a JLF for it lol

UTSF Player Rankings

Here’s a sample list of rankings. I’m thinking that it might look nicer to have a separate list. What do you think? Separate list or integrate it with the UTSF Player list? More info/stats? Less info/stats? And how do we want to do the ranking battle system? Agree ahead of time on when/where they’ll be held then record those scores, go retroactively…we’ve got a vote for each so far. GOGOGO!

**UTSF Player Rankings**

Name Rank Points #ofT Win/Loss Characters

Brian 1 27 3 10/1 Guile
Andrew 2 20 3 Sagat,Vega
Kelly 3 17 3 Balrog
Jacob 4 14 3 Zangief
Andy 5 10 3 Chun
Dana 6 8 2 Guile,Rose,Blanka
Matt 7 6 2 Dhalsim
Danny 8 5 1 C.Viper,Vega
Nate 9 4 2 M.Bison
Chase 10 3 2 Akuma
Mike 11 1 1 Blanka,M.Bison

And just so everyone knows, this is just a SAMPLE list. Not 100% accurate. Maybe 20%.

PS3 out!

I am kinda posting this like more than a week late lol. But something happened at the last tourney that left me VERY pissed off about…

While we were setting up my PS3 it got messed up real bad. How bad you ask? My entire friends list was deleted and replaced with two people I didn’t even know. All of my trophies became corrupt and as a result all games with trophies besides SF4 were unplayable. I could not even load SF2 because it said "error code blah blah blah cannot load. I also lost everything I had purchased on the PSN. I tried downloading everything on another profile after the format but I “cannot log on using another PSN network ID”

Bottom line is I don’t want to point fingers at how this happened but, I’m pretty ticked. As a result of this happening I am asking dash to remove my PS3 and my SF4 copy from the list. Our scene has so many Xboxes plus someone else has a PS3 they are capable of bringing so mine is not really needed anyways.

On the bright side my learning stick is in the mail and will be here in two more days =D

I like them separated better.

Hey Dana…I was checking the status of my AIAB stick and saw someone’s order below mine with the last name “Torp” …is there something that we need to know about? lol

Oh man, happy Easter!

Nah, that’s not me; if only it was. I’ll have to go check it out.

Utahsbowser…are you asking me to remove your PS3 gamertag from the UTSF Players list? That’s fine, I can do that. Just post back or PM me to confirm. And I’m very sorry to hear about what happened. :frowning: I figured that this would happen sooner or later. How could that have even occurred? Would someone have had to try and delete things or what? Either way, thanks for your contribution and I hope that you still come out to events.

I guess that this is a warning sign to everyone that brings equipment: do so at your own risk. Let’s watch out for each other.

Zach,

Wtf man, I’m sorry about your system. . .Please if this happens tell us right away so we can do anything to help. The trophies and shit I could care less about, bu if you are losing games you paid hard earn cash for that’s a different story. PM me and tell me how much u lost, we can work something out man.

Kelly,

Help this guy out, I think I’ve heard about this problem before but I don’t use the PS3 much at all. I’ll call you in a few minutes.

had

All I know about recovering lost purchases is to make sure that the profile you bought the stuff with is on the system and to simply redownload it. I think he has a Japanese system, so it may be different.

I don’t know a whole lot about the PS3 but the only thing I see that seems reasonable that could have happened is if somehow someone accidentally had the profile overwritten with a different existing profile. At least that only seems reasonable because of the added friends that you don’t even know.

Because the only other option I know of is if someone actually tried to sabotage your PS3 by deleting everything and adding random friends… That just really doesn’t seem like a remotely reasonable thing. But hey, who knows some people are crazy. Like Andy for instance.

I don’t know what happened, but it seems weird someone would have the time to sit there and delete every friend off your list, add people to the list, and then somehow corrupt your saves/trophies/dlc (if that is even possible for a user to do)… All without someone noticing it. Sounds more like some kind of PS3 XMB bug/glitch than something someone could do to the system themselves. Plus every time I saw the PS3 SF4 was on it. Not once did I see people messing around in the XMB. And yeah, to get your DLC back all you have to do is have the profile you bought it with on the system and download it again.

Dana,

Don’t lie, you’ve missed the last two tourneys because you’re scared of my Chun. It’s obvious. :arazz:

I prefer they Ranbat’s have their own window and not mixed with the players.

Also, to make it fair and now that ppl know we are gonna start keeping track of records and everyone has a chance to show. Let’s start the Ranking Battles THIS WEEK AT THE PLAY N TRADE TOURNEY. :karate:

In addition, I’m not a fan of 10- 7- 3- 1. I think it’s too small of a distribution. I think it should go 10- 8- 6- 4- 2- 2 (top 6 players gets points). :lovin:

had

Yeah, let’s start the RanBat at this week’s tourney.

I don’t think that top 6 should get points…top 5 maybe:

  1. 10 points
  2. 7 points
  3. 5 points
  4. 3 points
  5. 1 point

All those even numbers you posted make my head hurt Andy lol

I think that I’m more a fan of the 10-7-5-3-1 system. It’s an even distribution except that 1st gets an extra point…you know, for owning. Of course, this could just mean that Brian and Andrew run away with it all…

What are the criteria for establishing which tournament is a ranking battle and which isn’t? Or is it just as simple as “Hey, let’s have this be a ranking battle.” Consistency and organization would be good. Does every tournament get ranking points? 8-seed minimum? Do we only have two a month? 4 per month? And what about far off areas like Logan and those random Tooele tournaments that Kelly keeps on holding where he always takes 1st…:wgrin: Or, what if Provo/Orem holds it’s own tournaments 7 times a week and I take 1st place in all of them (dreaming, I know). Do we count those? And how long will the season run? Are we doing quarters (3 months) or 1/2 year or a whole year…I’ve never done any of this, but it’s very intriguing.

There’s also been talk of having “regional captains” or something to that extent. Maybe tournaments held by those people would count. And by regional captain, I mean those who are most likely to hold events in their respective divisions (Andy in SLC, Nate in Sandy (if we created a Sandy division, because SLC is a pretty big area), the Bleyl’s in Orem, Kyle or someone in Ogden, etc.) If nothing else, now that we’re getting big enough, a regional “coordinator” of sorts could help control the chaos that may ensue.

You know, maybe we say that we have one ranking battle per region per month. Spread the love, plus for those that aren’t as inclined to travel, they can hold a tournament in their area and still get on the boards, but for those that do travel, they get rewarded and the community benefits. I’m rambling a bit, but this is what generates ideas and discussion.

As always, lemme know.

It would have to be made very clear that a certain tournament is going to be a ranbat, and a location that everybody agree’s upon (Once we use that location, then we don’t have to agree in the future lol).

I’m for the biweekly ranbats to get things going but, again it’s up to the majority of us. Some people just can’t get out that much…but you know what? That’s just too bad, it’s SF baby!

I’ve already had 27 tournies at my house and I won them all = 270 pts for konqrr…ahem

What I belive happened si while we set up the HD we loaded another profile as the main profile and that somehow caused a crapload of problems.

-Andy, don’t worry about the cost of the games I lost. The only one that really mattered was HD remix.

I will still bring my PS3 as well as come to events. But before we hook my PS3 up to ANY HD TV I’m going to configure it beforehand. rather then turning it on and off to switch it over to HD.

Finally, My new gamertag is “Zman94ok” I decided not to recover my old gamertag as there is no reason to. Everyoen who added Gojirakaiju to their PS3 delete it and add my new one. Also add (a POS stick) to my equipment.

I changed your PS3 gamertag. As for equipment, I haven’t really kept track of that since the beginning. Each tournament and/or gathering usually has enough equipment to go around. Maybe I should start keeping track…I dunno.

Yo,

To make a ranbat a real ranbat, ppl have to care and show up. As I’ve been holding get togethers lately, I kinda see a general census of “will ppl show up.”

Let’s make a ranbat every 2 weeks, once a week is just wayyyy too much for ppl to be consistent. Because after you miss 2 of these, you are fucked even if you place generally high.

  1. 10-7-5-3-1 sounds great.
  2. Minimum of 8 ppl.
  3. 90 minute driving distance (sorry, I don’t want 8 weirdoes from St. George holding shit.)
  4. Season ends week before EVO (July 12)
  5. One dollar buy-in per person/per ranbat. (kelly/dana will hold b/c they are too religious to steal. . .or i’ll hold it b/c I’m asian and good with money)
  6. End of season payout goes 70/20/10 and RESPECT.
  7. Ranbat every 2 weeks, announced ahead of time.
  8. You can use tournaments to hold ranbats i.e. This Saturday at Play N Trade.

Your thoughts guys?

had

$1 entry is kind of weak sauce. Depends how many people show up each time. Say around 10 people each time and twice a month. It isn’t going to amount to much by the time July rolls around. I say somewhere between $3 and $5. The day I can’t afford $5 is the day I call my mother and ask for an allowance again… and then still show up to dominate you Andy.

Oh shit. . .

Matty just brought it. . .shit dawg. I’m gonna fuck up your 7-11 owning Sim. Yeah, your right 3 to 5 bucks sounds good. . .but wait don’t ppl need to bring cash actually (ahem Matty ahem). I said 1 buck just b/c I know times are tough. I really don’t care, I just want some money to make it interesting. If 3/5 dollars sounds good to you guys, then I’m down. . .but I just don’t want it to “deter” ppl from coming.

Also guys, Saturday. . .if your interested let’s sit down and talk about EVO and travel plans.

had

Well, at 2 ranbats/month, that’s either $2, $6, or $10 a month, 3 and a half months, so $7, $21, or $35 per person if they show up to every event…spread out over a minimum of 8 people a tournament…$56, $168, or $280…and that’s at a minimum of 8 people per ranbat, if every ranbat is held. Not a bad breakdown at the higher levels. I think that even I could swing $5 a ranbat, but we can’t have people sandbagging towards the end if it becomes clear that the top three aren’t going to change. If we go with the money, then we need to establish where the ranbats are held and who will always be there. Maybe even say that if you can’t be there, you still have to pay…I dunno.

Boy, this is getting serious.
