Since last Sunday, we’ve added 10 new players to bring the totals to 39 players that have, can, or want to play SF4 in Utah. Wade “jicka” competed in the TeamUtahNoobs SLCC SF4 tournament and later found his way here. Pat enlisted some people from his neck of the woods in the CACHE division (Shane, Dave, Tony, and Jimmy), and Brody from WEBER. “himfan1991” and Cody are also up in the WEBER area as well, having played with Kyle “underrealm” and Wallace “THE_WALL” last week.

TeamUtahNoobs tournament at SLCC, Friday April 3 (as taken from Andy’s posting)
So what does a $2 entry fee, 7 big screen projectors, 4 joysticks, and free sodas get you? Another SF4 tournament, that’s what. TeamUtahNoobs held a SF4 tournament last Saturday at the SLCC Jordan Campus for 20 entrants, and according to many, it was a great time. Brian “coldshadow” sonic boomed and flash kicked all comers, claiming yet another 1st place finish. 2nd place went to Matt “Matty” and his Dhalsim, attempting to stretch his limbs for a first place title butlosing to Brian in both winners and losers brackets, while Andy claimed a 3rd place showing with his Chun play. The top winners received prizes from the sponsors, ranging from headphones, to laptop speakers, and some t-shirts with energy drinks. The prizes improve as the number of players increase, so bring people to the Play N Trade tournament!

We’ll see how this works, but I’d like to showcase people’s videos, characters, gameplay, remixes…whatever we can to drum up support from within the UTSF community. This week, we have Pat “DarkCatalyst” from up in Logan showing us a match between his Akuma and a Gouken player named AxxesS from New Mexico.
Ranking battles are starting!!!
The UTSF community is looking to start ranking battles (ranbats) where players earn not only points depending on how they finish, but compete for a cash pot to be disbursed once the season is over. What has been proposed so far is a $5 buy-in per ranbat, two ranbats per month, with the season beginning at the Play N Trade tournament this Saturday until July 12, right before EVO in Vegas. I would track the stats and display them following each tournament and with the UTSF News on Sunday. Here is an example:

WCG Fight Club
A couple of things sounds like the community is blooming. The ranbats that you all are talking sound great and all. They are great opportunities for practice for EVO.
Evo Early bird I saw on the main page that early bird registration is open so those of you attending should get on that right away as you can save $20 dollars. It also says there is no registration at the door. The deadline for the Early birds is May 31 so get on it.
WCG Fight Club
World Cyber Games is holding a fighter paradise on April 25 in NYC.
It being in NYC means two things
its gonna be top tier bouts (ie Justin Wong)
and secondly it might be pricey.
The entry fee is free.
Prizes include $500 dollars per game and you can play in multiple games.

I’d like to as well, but I may need to “save up my time” so to speak for the tournament on Saturday.
GGs to Andrew, Jon, and Jacob. Sorry, guys…I don’t lose well when I think I’ve “arrived.” I need to disabuse myself of that notion, and just think that everything is uphill and hard. That’s when I play my best and losing is a constructive experience for me. Don’t give up on me yet! (Ask my wife; I’m definitely better than when we first got married.)
Apart from that, I’m definitely sticking with Blanka; he fits my playstyle in this game more than Guile. And I absolutely NEED to get Live. It’s just good for practice.
Underrealm - It’s mainly that I work Saturday nights, and transportation even just as far as Layton is not assured (otherwise I’d have been hanging out at Wall’s with you guys all this past week). Anything that goes down on a Saturday would have to end early enough for me to get back to Logan in time for work at 10. That, or I’d need about a month’s notice in order to try and get the night off (like I did for 2nd Round GameStop qualifiers in Centerville).
Just wanted to request that when you’re having your chat about Evo travel/rooming plans at the tourney, that I’m included in said plans. Then just let me know afterward who I’m rooming with and how much money I’ll need to pass along for gas/hotel.
Coldviper - I’d be more interested in trying my Abel against yours, but some Akuma vs Abel bouts would certainly help to unweaksauce me in one of my worse matchups. There are just some aspects of Abel’s game that I need to adapt to before I can pose any legitimate threat to him as Akuma, as I found out the hard way last week. 
Dana - Forgot to thank you earlier for the UTSF Video of the Week honors. Hope you and everyone else enjoyed watching the match as much as AxxesS and I did playing it out.
