I was thinking about going to Devastation but can’t get the time off at all.

July is pretty much guaranteed for me to go to EVO.

  1. For sure, seems like me, Chase, Andrew, Triplets (from what I hear) will most definitely be going.

  2. I know Triplets/Andrew most likely will drive. Depending on my travel plans I will either drive or fly out.

  3. I will stay there 3 days no doubt.

  4. This can be a very cheap trip if you plan EARLY. I know times are tough and ppl have responsibilities ahead of
    SF4.

I’m not wealthy myself but things are stable in my life. I don’t mind sharing my room and not charging anyone. Lending a stick out for the tourney. Or spotting someone a meal here or there.

  1. Mike, Dana, Matty, Nathan, Kelly seem very interested currently in attending.

  2. Brian and Thomas are still in the air.

Even though I don’t get much chance during the week to polish my SF4 skills, I have alot of fun at the gatherings and pick up alot from you guys. This game I see myself still playing in a year.

Not gonna lie, this maybe my only chance for years to come to go. With SF4 and HDremix this is gonna be one of the greatest years for EVO.

I feel it would be great to show ppl that Utah has some great players but mostly I want to go to have a good time in Vegas, play games, drink, play games, drink, gamble, strip clubs, play games. Most you guys are actually really fun just to hang with so it’s nice.

Wow, LOTS of activity lately.

Coldshadow (Brian) and Hadouken (Andy) thank you SO much for the heads-up on the gas leak. awalk002 (Andrew) and I hadn’t even left Provo yet, so you saved us a trip with the quick info.

Etelmik (Mike), I don’t have a problem putting real names next to screen names on the player listing, as long as no one else minds. Any objections?

I’ll also add an EVO count to the news in some form or another.

And, yeah, Kelly and I did talk briefly about doing Ranbat’s (Ranking Battles). It could make seeding for tournaments easier, track our progress, give us something to shoot for, help people come to tournaments more consistently, and just be cool. Plus, it’d be something else for me to put in the news. LOL (I really like doing the “UTSF News”. It helps me feel like I’m doing something to help out the scene and keeps people up-to-date on recent events without having to go through too many pages of the Utah thread…are we really at 21 pages?)

As far as the Swiss tournament goes, eh, why not try it once and see how it goes. If it sucks, at least we know, and if it’s good, hey, then it’s good. Some variety in the mix might not be all that bad. I’m not sure if I can attend that one or not; my sister, her husband, and her daughter are in town this weekend from Ohio and Montana, and I haven’t seen them in a year. If I can’t go, I’d like to get the info on the tournament for the news. Who could I interview to get information? LordLuxun? Kelly? Whoever wants to, just PM me some info and impressions about what happened, or call me at 801-522-3223.

Recording matches, especially tournament matches, is a GREAT idea. We can see how everyone is doing, evaluate progress, give criticism and advice, and overall just improve our games. Coordinate it with gathering/tournament organizers, get there and set up the recording equipment, and you’re good.

EVO…I can’t say for sure if I can go. I have the hope, but not the funds. We’ll have to see.

Finally, does anyone have any problems with taking pictures at these events we have and posting them online? Again, I’d put them in the news…I think it’d be good for newcomers or people that are kind of on the fence about coming out if they can put names to faces and see what’s going on. You know, it’s good for morale, hype, community, etc.

I’m able to attend (ie: I already have the money and have put in for the time off) if I can find a carpool and people to room with. I want to get all the logistical stuff hashed out ASAP though.

After next week I’ll know for sure if I can go to EVO or not, I’ll report back here when I know. I can bring my PS1 with screen and MKT/SF Collection to play on the trip! =D

I really want to record tourney matches, it will help us out greatly to be able to watch ourselves play and see where we need improvement. The only problem I forsee is 1) We don’t have HD recoding equipment, 2) if we use a VCR then we have to play in SD mode and that will SUCK, 3) who has a camcorder that we can use?

I know there is HD recording hardware for around $200-300, but I’ve never used it.

It uses component input though, not hdmi and goes up to 1080i only…but for our purposes, 720p is just fine and takes up WAY less space than 1080p video.

I’d love to go myself. But money these days for me is tight. Anyone have any approximate estimation on how much I would need to go? Getting time off work isn’t a problem.

I’ve just never been to Evo, so I really don’t know a whole lot about it or what to expect.

  1. Gas: to make it easy, you are going ~400 miles. If your car got 20 miles/gallon, then that means 20 gallons one way. 2 dollars a gallon x 20 gallons puts you at 40 bucks one way.

80 bucks total in gas both ways, however if you drive with 2-4 ppl total, you are paying 20-40 dollars

  1. Food: 3 days x 3 meals x 7 dollars/meal is ~$60

  1. Lodging: Thurs: 50, Fri: 85, Sat: 85 comes to $220 up to 2 ppl: so $110
    Any extra person 3rd and 4th person is $30 per additional 3rd/4th
    So if hou have 4 ppl in $220 plus 90 plus 90 comes to 400/4 : so $100

Lodging: $100

  1. Entry Fee for SF4: Not sure about $30 in the past per game

Entry fee: $30

Total: $230

Now EVO is ~14 weeks away. If you save $20 bucks a week, then you’ll have $280.

EVO is definitely worth the cost, even worth Andy’s very safe estimate. It’s difficult to describe just how awesome being at EVO finals is. With such a convenient location for Utah, especially considering how big it is, it would be a waste not to go. I don’t want to risk overhyping it tho. That never turns out well.

  2. Could you set up Tables and TV so we can put our sticks on them tables and sit in chairs. It was difficult sitting on the ground and playing on my lap.
