Andy, I’ve been making videos of one form or another for over 5 years. I have the capture card and can do it all. We just need to record them on VHS or some other medium!
If in SF4CE, we can save matches, AND we can transfer the saves to a portable device (flash card, ipod, whatever) that would save a LOT of time and resources! We’ll see.
@Lord LuXun, yeah wtf…you never say a word at Andy’s house and now you are chatting it up here lol …anyways, there is one flaw with the Swiss format, if there are say 5 rounds and you lose 3 of them and one player hasn’t lost yet…why would you need to keep playing if there is absolutely no way to win? This is kind of the same with double elim tourneys but at least those make more sense. I only see using a pool system like we did at Andy’s to break it down from 11 to 8 in order to have a double elim with no byes. If there was a tremendous amount of players, the pool system would still work to get it down to a factor of 8. The speed of such is contingent upon the number of tv’s and consoles we have running, but it wouldn’t be any faster using the swiss system.
wow looks like there is a huge gas leak at the U of U… the news is saying everyone has evacuated the entire campus and all classes for the rest of the day are canceled. I’m guessing the tournament is canceled… lame, i was really looking forward to it…
The playing after losing problem would happen with both RR and swiss, but not double elim. The difference between RR and swiss is that swiss makes you play people with a similar skill level to yours, but RR lets you get a shot at playing the best if he is in your pool. Good or bad depends on preference.
The reason to keep playing after you can’t get first is to get the highest rank possible, so you can try to beat it next time.
Forgot to txt you also. Glad you guys check this site. Thanks to Coldshadow. My friend who is close friends with tourney organizer is trying to get details. However, most likely this will be cancelled as the whole campus is evacuated.
Oh well, guess I’ll head home and hop online then. There will were one or two things I wanted to practice before the tourney, but was too sick. Hopefully they reschedule it soon.
Would be awesome if it was something like Noby Noby Boy where you could record your play session and then upload it straight to youtube from in game. SFIV replays probably require the game to be replayed, and only includes the necessary data for that to happen. Like button inputs, character position, and other important game states. If that’s the case it is still really no replacement for having capture equipment and youtube. Hell, who didn’t buy an iphone so they can hide in the bathroom at work and watch SF videos on youtube? I don’t know how I’ll sneak an xbox and tv in there.
Also, some of the articles I’ve read on the championship mode dlc… They make it sound like there might be some kind of BP restriction to creating replays or something. I dunno, maybe I read to much into it.
Edit: I’m very interested in EVO. I think one of my friends is going. Can’t say for sure right now though. Might be in full crunch mode at work by mid July. Have to do some research (kiss the bosses ass) and then let you know.
I got exactly what you mean man, kinda like how Starcraft/Warcraft replays need th original game to view to save space. Maybe we should capture some of the highlight of the matches.
Just talked to tournament organizer, the SF4 tourney round 2 at SLCC will still stand and hopefully they will move tonights cancelled tourney to a TBA date at the University.
Put me down for Evo. Transportation is still a question, but I can probably get down as far as SLC to carpool with others. It’d be good if we could get things like room arrangements and such hashed out right away.
I’ve been planning on going to EVO and meeting up with my friend NOZ from Oregon. I haven’t really done the best job of planning my trip or anything because I’ve been busy with my band recording, practicing and playing shows. You can count me in though.
I was thinking we should rent a U-Haul and put a couple couches and tv’s in there with a generator for practice on the way.
Now that SF4 is out my third strike copy just collects dust pretty much, only because I can play it free on GGPO or 2df if I ever feel like it, but for me playing 3s and going back to sf4 throws me off horribly. So it’s up to you man, it’s a cool collectors game though, and that’s not a bad price. I paid 12.99 used for mine.

I’m very seriously thinking about going to EVO this year, I’ve always wanted to go, and now we have a scene. A SCENE YOU FOOLS! lol
But, it is all dependant on:
Who is going?
How are we going to get there? I can’t drive because I hardly trust my little honda to get me to salt lake every week to get to school and work, there’s no way I can drive it to Vegas and I can’t use the family car because what would my wife do with the kids? o_O
Where are we staying?
Will we be there for all three days? I can get the time off easily, but other people might not be able to, and if we carpool we’d all have to be there for that amount of time.
I don’t mind drunken idiocy, as long as it’s not during the drive and you don’t puke on me lol

That’s what an iPod Classic is for! I put various YouTube videos, my own video creations, and tv shows/movies on it for when I have to visit the crapper. It’s like I get paid to watch videos at work half the time LOL
Right now, I’m listening to the Twilight series of books while I drive to SLC.
Sorry that I haven’t been very active lately.
I’m getting a little tired with SF IV lately so I haven’t been polishing my skills.
Maybe I’ll get better again when I’m interested again.
As for EVO, I’m not sure if I’m able to go yet. Since I’m moving during the summer, July’s still a little iffy.
I might also go to Devastation in Arizona if anyone else is interested. It’s on June 19th-21st.
I’ll only go if I have nothing planned that weekend.
