Utah: Huge Developments

I’ll be honest with you, Samson, and anyone else. Don’t come to the tournament this Saturday until I can confirm that we can get some good locals to come out unless you just want to play some games. Gasoline prices just went from $2.50 to $2.80 here in one night, and I can almost guarantee you that the price of gas spent to get from Hill AFB to Provo and back won’t be worth it for the quality of the comp that will most likely be there, if two weeks ago was any indicator.

I’ll tell everyone how this tournament goes, to see if any good locals show. Come if you want, but this isn’t going to be like a little Evo or anything. Maybe I advertised a little bit hastily, who knows. Everyone is still welcome, of course.

Oh, and there shouldn’t be a fee, and I’m not sure about any prizes, but I would expect something like last time (data card and a candy cup for 1st place). However, I’m not sure the manager can run a proper double elimination tournament yet. Last time it was a bit weird. It was like a combination of round robin and last-man standing. The 1st place winner (me) was only first place because I was the last winner from the list, after everyone else played each other and each had two losses. The casual games were better than the actual tournament, but not by a lot.

So don’t expect much more than that if you decide to come. This whole T5 tournament movement in Provo is in it’s infant stages, but it’ll get better.

What’s the word?

Trying to get hold of the arcade and have them check the list…maybe someone is talking with their girlfriend or something. Can’t get through. I’ll keep trying.

Okay, I got hold of the arcade manager (Damon) and he’s saying the turnout is about the same as last time, none of the big names that I know live around here. No entry fee, just pay to play afaik. The only prize is a data card, and he’s going to try a real double elimination bracketed tournament. I’ll help him, but neither of us have much experience with running double elimination tournaments, so it may be a “learning experience”.

But it is still happening at 6pm today. If you want any experience against Baek, Jack-5, or Kuma, I’ll be there.

Aight, I’m headin down, bringing another person from base, he’s better than me. Nate said he was gonna chill, and they bleyls are chillin too. So expect +2 people coming, see ya soon.

Cool, see ya there.

Thanks for coming, Samson. Good to finally meet ya, and good games with your Asuka. Wish I could have stayed longer…you were starting to learn my Baek and I wanted to make him better.

Well, now you know what the T5 tournaments are like at the PTC Tilt. Tell Ernie and Nate about the level of comp so they can take home the prizes when we have the next T5 tourney in a couple weeks!

It was fun, next time I shouldn’t get eliminated before the grand final.
Any of you fools wanta get a group together? Besides the traditional Nate+Ernest=Samson? Considering our locations, I guess the bleyls place are the centeral location. Common fools, let’s get more than 3 people at one place

hey as long as its on the weekend, you know were down! i know it sucks with gas as it is and everything but yeah, our house is always open

CORKSCREWBLOW BITCHES
Who wants some this weekend?

hahaha what’s the plan? where - when? we’re down, sunday is probably best for us but what does everyone else have in mind?

Hey guys, long time no see. Sorry I just kinda dropped off the earth for awhile, I’ve just had a lot going on in my life and had to put fighting games on the backburner temporarily.

First and foremost, I’ve begun the process of returning to Utah State University in January. Hopefully I can get some more players together up there and see if my friend Toshi up there has been working on his Ken. You guys have never met him, but if he gets his parrying skills together, he’ll be a real beast.

Anyway, I think my burnout from putting all those tournaments together leading up to Evolution is finally starting to taper off. I feel like playing Tekken and 3rd Strike for the first time since July. Hopefully we can get some more ranking battles going this fall.

Finally, mark January 14th on your calendars. It’s the Saturday after I move back up to Utah State, and homework willing, I’m going to try and throw a big fighter gathering in my dorm to break the room in. There won’t be any APEX rankings for any tournaments we hold there because it’s technically a residence, but there won’t be anyone taking a 20% cut off the top of the pot, either. More or less up to you guys what we play, but I’m assuming by now 3rd Strike and Tekken 5 are a foregone conclusion (besides, there will be some god damn 3rd Strike at any tournament I hold :D).

Good to “see” you guys again. We had a good run up to Evo over the summer, let’s keep it rolling.

Keep up on the updates.

this sunday sunday sunday (12/3) at the bleyls place. samson, i left you a message on your phone. jacobley@yahoo.com we will get some street fighter mvc kof or anything else going.

anyone ever eat at Lon’s near BYU? I miss that place :frowning:

good to see you guys coming along good Pat … I’m out in California now and might have to come up sooner or later to visit, but I need to get myself situated out here first … get a place, etc etc.

Would anyone be interested in a KOF neowave tournament?

I work at the arcade in the Newgate mall and it could be a cool way of getting all the Utah peeps together.

Holy cow, does anybody check this board anymore?

Anyway, just thought I would let everybody know that the arcade I’m working at (Newgate Cyberstation) is getting DR tomorrow. Just barely heard from my boss, so you guys are getting it straight from the horses mouth.

Everybody thats into Tekken should come by because this place is not seeing nearly enough buisness and I would hate for it to leave like it did before.

Been SEVERELY out of commission for awhile. First school, then life being ass, then health issues, then work…

You and Samson still going to Evo this year? There’s a remote chance I’ll be able to pull enough money together to make it, but I’d still need a ride and someone to go in on the rooms and shit with me.

Trying to get the local tournament scene rolling once again, but with Tony out of Utah until school starts back up (he’s in Florida with his GF), it’s really hard to pull much of anything off. The good news is, LFU (the site of our pre-Evo battle) has expanded to two locations, one of which being a full-scale arcade. Scott really seems into this whole fighting community thing, so we might be able to get things going again in September, despite it being a really odd time to do so.

What would you guys like to see for a game lineup when we start again? I’m seriously thinking about bringing Hyper Fighting into the picture since lots of other places are doing it.

Edit: Actually, I’m going to start a new thread outright. I need to poll you guys on some stuff anyway.
