Keep it cordial, don’t get too crazy. Its understandable why you would be upset.
Making the thread because hardly anybody goes to the front page.
Edit: Continuing this thread because nobody listened and now we have a borked version developed by the same people who did HD Remix (which drops inputs on the PS3 version). Continue to keep it cordial but discuss how to move forward. CEO is the next tournament up so that’s the one that may have to eat it.
Probably gonna suck for all the pad players at the event if there’s no decent converter out by then.
Wonder how much money Sony spent on getting this done and how much (if any) of that goes into the prize pool.
Going from PS2 to PS3 it made sense since there were converters out there. This one makes no sense to me. Probably some combination of SFV being a PS4 exclusive and god knows what else.
Too bad that driver is not a stand-alone thing that you can use for all fighting games. That way we could circumvent those cheap-ass tactics by Mad Catz and the fighting game devs that try to sell us a new joystick even though the old one is perfectly fine.
A developer is only obligated to support official peripherals for a console. There’s no reason a PS4 developer should have to support PS2/PS3/3rd Party/Sega Saturn/etc. peripherals. If they choose to do so then it’s because they’re doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.
I don’t see why it should be EXPECTED. In fact, it’s EXPECTED that an old console’s controllers WON’T work. Saturn came out and no one expected to be able to use Genesis controllers with it. N64 came out and no one expected to use SNES pads with it. Just because PS1/PS2 had backwards compatibility and some PS3 games could use PS2 USB Steering Wheels, it doesn’t mean that it’s the norm. In fact, those are examples of exceptions to the rule.
If I’m a PS4 developer, I don’t see why I am required to add support for controllers that do NOT belong to the system I’m developing for. Just because I COULD code my game to support a PS1 DDR dance pad doesn’t mean I HAVE to. Nor should I be required to.
Consoles work because there are standards. PS4 developers should only have to worry about PS4 hardware and accessories.
What you two are proposing isn’t much different from the dark days of the early 90s, where graphic card and sound card support came from the DEVELOPER. Whether or not your sound/graphics card would work was dependent on whether or not the developer chose to support it. Then DirectX/OpenGL came along, and all graphics cards and sound cards worked as long as they followed certain standards.
PS4 accessories follow the PS4 standard. PS4 games support PS4 devices. Any other device support you get is pure luck/gravy/developer kindness/black magic.
Does this move force other Capcom Cup events to go to PS4 too? Otherwise I think it’ll be wack that the event that awards the most pts is the only PS4 event. I also don’t like this as a stick player cause everyone is different. Some people prefer tighter joysticks, some prefer bat tops, some prefer octogate. But now you just get whatever loaner stick they give you.
There is already a Madcatz PS4 stick on the market, and the Hori PS4 stick comes out in a month. If you’re into modding (which it seems like you are), the PS360+ PCB has had PS4 support for some time.
There are plenty of options if you want a PS4 stick. I don’t see why you’d have to rely solely on a loaner stick.
People already switch between PS3 sticks for Evo and 360 sticks for other tournaments. When the tournaments start to require PS4 sticks, you switch to a PS4 stick. It might be a pain, but I don’t see how this is somehow something new.
It’s new because the game has already been out for like 6 years and most people have bought their peripherals of choice, now they want to change the standard to ps4 when it is perfectly fine on 360. So I guess we just gotta forget our old sticks/pads and buy a ps4 stick AND a ps4 console to play what is most likely an almost identical game, personally I don’t want to shell out $500+ to play the same game i’ve been playing for 6 years, yeah you could just buy the stick but then all you have is a stick that you can only use occasionally and no ps4 to play it on outside of tourneys/locals.
Edit: If it was a brand new game I would agree with you for the most part but it’s not.
I get what you’re saying. But as you’ve said, assuming the port is the same game without changes, there is 0 reason to buy a new console also. You ONLY need a new stick. And let’s face it – there will be other fighters in the future for PS4. When the time comes, you can buy a console then, and you’ll already have a controller. It’s not like you’re using this stick for SF4 only (hopefully).
As for other people feeling scammed…you guys are upset your old controllers for an old console don’t work on a NEW console? Did the world end when Xbox controllers didn’t work on 360? How about the fact that 360 controllers don’t work on XBO? Me personally…I’ll be in the corner quietly sobbing while I fruitlessly try to ram my PS1 controller into my PS3’s USB ports while cursing Sony forever. Come on people…
I feel bad for Luffy, but man, he was living on borrowed time. There was no guarantee that converters for controllers would keep coming out forever. And even if they did, there’s no guarantee he would have been able to find lagless ones. If anything, he’s an example of why you SHOULD be using new controllers with new consoles. Your old ones won’t always work, and you should accept that as a fact of life.
This sucks. ‘Shouldn’t have to invest in a PS4 stick just to play a 5+ year old game that already has an established standard and plenty of people have their controller setups ready for that. Part of my stick’s customization is an octo-gate and having 2 springs in there, so loaner sticks is a no-go for me like 99% of the time (and most people don’t want to borrow mine unless they absolutely have to as well). But really, this shouldn’t be this much of a hassle in the first place. Sony is fuckin’ up and fighting game developers really need to start providing support for BC controller options.
