USF4 | Tier List Thread (updated October 2015)

What you did there, i saw it.

How do you guys think yang is in ultra? I’m picking him up and I really enjoy him. What are his good and bad matchups.

I think he’s majorly slept on and could be one of the better characters

Same as usual, he’s good, but Yun is better.

I think some of his good matches are Akuma, Dhalsim, Rolento, Cody, Dee Jay, Dan, (Seth)? Well that’s just off the top of my head anyway, some could be wrong. I used to think Ryu, and Evil (I doubt Evil now) not sure on Ryu anymore. I play him every now and then still, but just for fun.

Bad: Gief, Hawk, Bison, Balrog, Viper.

Yeah but how good is he? Top 10,15 etc?

I don’t think comparing him to Yun is fair they’re very different

Top 15 is debatable, I don’t see him going any higher to be honest.

He has a better mixup game than Yun, but Yun seems to just outshine him in everything else.

Why?

OK u edited the post

Better damage, better buttons, better gap closers, better divekick.

This. Can also build meter fast and gets more out of red focus, although I’ve seen some good Yangs make good use of Red Focus also.

DWU hurts his game a bit, doesn’t really benefit from UCW, damage is kinda low. Most Yangs just roll with Ultra 1 for guaranteed damage when they can.

IMO just outside top 10. His major problem is he get counterpicked clean by Grapplers and characters that can defensively outfootsie him give him trouble.

Other than that though, he pretty much has it all. USF4 gave him a better counterpoke to dominating lows with faster st.lk. fst.mp really filled in his deadzone well, does more damage with BnB, faster walkspeed so he can pressure even better than he could before (now best in the game), now has a crossup that actually works (although its still only sometimes).

Still has a decent divekick, great frame traps, command grab, excellent footsies, far reaching low, invincible reversal, 2 good ultras, command dashes (one of which is strike/projectile invincible), good mixups etc.

Only negative thing I can say is that he doesn’t benefit from either Red Focus or UCW since he already has great hit confirm with Rekka, and UCW just makes the damage from his Ultras pitiful since they aren’t huge damage in the first place and are usually comboed into from 3+ attacks. Also, DWU hurts his setups and mixup options especially during in Seiei Enbu (which I feel is severely underutilized along with lk xx mk xx hk target combo).

So pretty much he is great, but grapplers and the system mechanics fuck him over.

I agree with everything except DWU fucking him. He wasn’t really big on safe jumps or unblockables and most of his damage is soft knockdowns. Also his front side pressure game is legit with his walk speed

Good matches are shotos, sim, Dudley, rolento, chun, and a few others. Eryu is questionable.

He loses to grapplers but I think Hugo is even.

Yang beats Dudley?

Really?

Yes if they beat one shoto the match up must be advantaged against all of them. Oh maybe not E.Ryu because high tier.

Outfootsies him cleanly and safely.

Did you watch shine maul smug at king of new york? Obviously one match doesn’t tell the whole story but it was pretty convincing and you could see how yangs tools (specifically cr.mk) work well against dudley.

i could actually explain it to you if you want to not jump to conclussions.

the key difference between eryu and the other shotos is that after he blocks a string into slashes, he can do something that reaches every time, is safe on block, and leads into a fat combo if he has meter.

blocked slash puts yang at a spot on the screen where none of the other shotos can safely sweep, because they are all punishable on block by either slash or ex slash. or low forward into fireball because its never a block string or actually blocking the fireball portion is punishable on block.

none of their other buttons will reach so they just get whiff punished by a follow up low forward or stand short. eryu can low forward into fireball every time and its a clean break in the pressure unless yang takes a guess and dive kicks over it or tries to get a lvl 1 counterhit crumple.

yang eryu was close to even, or probablly even in ae2012, but they both got buffed. eryu’s health buff makes a difference vs yangs meterless damage output.

and thats all without mentioning eryu’s much more potent offense than the other shotos

so yeah the match is questionable as far as who wins now. because top tier. -_-

Yeah for sure, he has no answer for Yang cr.mk and gets beat up by rekka pressure thanks to his only reversal costing meter.

Haha, sarcasm aside I think he goes even with Ken, beats Ryu and Akuma.

I’m not sure about E.Ryu though. On one hand, fst.mp, cr.mk, and amazing walkspeed means that E.Ryu is losing the ground game, but on the other hand he only needs one touch and his divekick can give Yang trouble thanks to his mediocre anti airs. Once E.ryu is in Yang has to be really careful trying to stand or crouch tech since one frame trap = 35-40%.

for sure he beats dudley. dudley loses hard at neutral, and doesnt have good answers to official yang pressure. it gets hairy if dudley knocks him down or gets his shit going, but thats every dudley match. if you asked most yang players who yang beat in ae2012 there were 2 answers that just about everyone agreed on. sim and dudley

it wasnt even just KONY. he consistently beats smugs dudley with yang. nlbc’s, online matches. whatever.

Yang definitely does not beat chun in anyway. Just because he has a divekick doesn’t mean chun doesn’t do well against him. She has a better ground game and his dk doesnt do anything about that.

From what little I’ve seen, Chun’s grounded buttons can give Yang serious trouble.

Sorry to bring it up again, but whats the dealio on Poison? I’m hearing tons of mixed opinions.

Which is a good sign, in hindsight.
