Koji KOG could have gone farther, but I honestly feel he was fooling around a lot because he was having so much fun.
I don’t know how much Hawk Itabashi played, would be interesting to know.

Still snake stole the show as far as OG grapplers [Gief, Hawk] are concerned. Shit he stole the show overall along with luffy and bonchan

Zangief’s been very good since the beginning of SF4 he’s got some of the best normals in the game and some very funky hurtboxes that work to his defensive advantage. He’s got a definitive solid AA game something that’s lacking with many cast members outside DP’s.
He lost the mighty standing strong but the Jab Green hand speed buff works really well…Anti-backdash repeated Jab GH OS was something really scary demonstrated by Snake Eye’s at Evo.
Yea luffy played out of his mind. Doesnt change my mind that her backdash is shenanigans but thats a complaint iv had about chun as well. im not trying to take away from his monstrous run. He played so well.
On another note backdashes are very different when you look at them from more than total frames/total distance.
Cammy’s backdash in terms of numbers is better than both chun and rose [same frame total and same distance better distance]

OS Sweep, vs rose tight timing but doable
OS Sweep vs cammy, A bit easier
OS Sweep vs chun, impossible
OS sweep vs ibuki, impossible [slow as fuck backdash]
OS sweep vs makoto, impossible [slow backdash]
OS Sweep vs El Fuerte… actually no Chain OS from juri can hit him as his backdash is too fast. [maybe a perfect meaty, perfect chain os but thats irrelevant. i didnt attempt to test that as it is not match practical. Even a 4 frame safe jump OS HK Pinwheel isnt fast enough for him but hits EVERY other cast member.
However with e ryu, normal xx MK axe kick vs focus backdash when properly timed hits:
Rose
Cammy
Makoto
and i belive it would hit ibuki but i didnt realize her slow backdash was situationally so effective. I never checked it.
They all get hit along with the rest of the cast however…
Cannot hit chun as her backdash moves her out of range of the hitbox as it moves forward.
Its not as simple as frames + distance + airborner frames as it is…
Frames + Distance + Airborne frames + Total distance covered at a specific frame [how fast they accelerate].
even then backdash hitboxes matter as cr lk, stlp/lk OS st mp hits a certain set of chars while cr lk /cr lk OS cr mk wiffs on 3 of those chars.
TLDR: Procedural hitbox generation is shit.
Also im pretty sure the queen of backdash is “Chun-li”.
The king of “Lol your os isnt fast enough but i go nowhere” is Fuerte.
Seems like the best theory backdash but isnt the in reality best vs OSes goes to “Cammy” whose backdash is still amazing just not the best.
Edit: Other chars may have different results depending on your moves hitboxes and forward progress compared to their backdashes.

To be honest with you. He could probably do all this and still not make it out of pools. SF was rough as hell this year. A good number of good players didn’t make it out of pools. With more and more people going, the competition goes up. I pretty much got blown up this year and didn’t make it out of pools but this was my first tourney so what expected. Won one losers match but whatever.
At the very least, I can say I played a top Japan player in tourney and compared the gulf of gaps between our play.
I need to pick up a better character like Rose or something. Guy is not working for me. Fun as hell but quite risky character.
Tiers are quite condensed in this game. Which is good.

bonchans lack of st.mk vs rose confirms in my mind that he was clueless.
Luffy still deserved it more though. He went through MUCH tougher brackets.
Just like Infiltration and Xian, people are going to start catching on, and Rose will be a non-issue.
Of course, Akuma was on everyone’s radar, but with Gen, all it took was one to win the big one for everyone to take notice on how hard they slept on the match.
Luffy already looked like he worked hard for that win, but soon he’ll have to work harder. I’m pretty sure by TGS, it’s going to get way harder for him to make it look so free.
For anyone interested, Eduardo says that he asked Momochi whether or not Evo would affect the Japanese tier lists and Momochi said "no."
Not exactly sure why anyone would think it would. Tiers are never determined by tournament results
