I can agree with that, but I wouldn’t be completely sure considering how Luffy ended up dismantling Justin Wong at Stunfest. It’d have been interesting to see though, since their styles are completely different and who knows if Luffy could handle the mauling style that Ricky has with Rufus.
And it feels great to have seen SnakeEyez finally beat that way of playing the matchup that both Justin and Ricky had been using for a while.
I thought Rose was bad for Fei in AE2012. Bonchan played correctly IMO , you can challenge Rose in fb war but you have to hope she mis times reflects and miss spaces spirals. He did what any decent player would have done, test your game in the free set then adjust.
I would have personally tried a few more neutral jumps though , the spiral is still a forward moving special. The real difference is that were with Fei long you can easily tell the spacing , you can’t so much with Rose, that’s why bonchan would continually jab xx fb as a punish and not jab xx tu like the other matches.
With evo2014 now in the record books, which of the new 5 do you guys feel has the most potential at the moment?
My vote is currently with DeCammy (sadly). That purple ball has dirt written all over it. Hugo seems like there’s no grey area in his matchups, just real good ones and shitstorms. Elena I think will be downloaded within a month and become irrelevant. Poison looks solid as a rock, but no real strengths to speak of. And I didn’t notice a Rolento all weekend. He just seems to have dissappeared aside from Nemo.
Rose vs Fei is mostly in favor of Rose but not by a large margin. Without going much into details, its a footsie battle with one being able to bait rekkas and chicken wings while the other can bring the other character in the corner in a matter of seconds.
Come on, kara focus dash up throw is practically a Cody BnB lol. Also hop forward throw from Blanka. Though blanka/cody/gouken don’t have that closeMK option Rose has.
Neither cody’s dash nor hop seem anywhere close as effective as rose/gouken dash throw down. Could be a frame/animation/tech window difference. You tell me since you’re the wizard.
You’re right on that. Cody’s dash is 18F (Kara focus is I think 22F? Not 100% sure off the top of my head). Blanka’s surprise forward is 22F. Gouken’s forward dash is an incredibly good 16F. Plus Gouken’s forward throw does more damage (140 dmg 150 stun).
Plus the most important aspect: You’re typically looking for it from Cody and Blanka since throws are like the main way they get damage while Gouken has his fireball game and good FADC combos to fall back on. Rose has her amazing pokes and then the close MK makes you hesitate to tech.
I just meant Blanka/Cody do it and love it as much as Gouken/Rose. Doesn’t mean it’s as effective.
Though, I’d say nobody does wakeup throw more than Cody. MAYBE Juri ties him on that one.
I should wakeup throw more. I almost never do it. Also I need to start doing dash up cl.mk but I always expect to get shoryu’d in the face or just mashed at. Scary shit.
Gouken’s f.dash is the second fastest in the game at 16fr. After a couple of chained lights, e.g. cr.lp x3 into far.lk Gouken is +3fr on hit and still in sweep or cr.mp range but outside of throw or SRK range. So opps are mostly in down-back mode and are caugth by surprise. After one sucessfull f.dash throw Gouken has a small mix up…
Maybe it’s just me, but I think that Rose is one of the few footsie based matches Cody actually does better than Fei.
I think a lot of comes down to the fact Cody can crMK under her fireball or throw his own to cancel it. Also Cody’s crLP, crMP, and F+MP I think are quite solid buttons. I think it’s still solidly in Rose’s favor due to her sHK, slide, and Cody’s bad mobility but I feel like Cody does better than Fei slightly.
