USF4 | Tier List Thread (updated October 2015)

I distinctly remember 10 different posters on SRK who don’t even play Ryu saying that DWU benefits him greatly and their posts got 5 Likes each. I think I’ll go with their opinion.

That tier list from the round table basically confirms what I thought about this game since I started playing it - there are far too many weak and average characters in this game now (not to mention that the balancing seems worse than before). 35(!!) characters from B to D tier. Even if we were to assume that AE2012 had the same ratio, it’s still not even close to what Capcom alluded to with this version. We know that they wanted defensive characters to be stronger, but making everyone equally boring and weak is not that way to do it.

What’s weird is that Capcom showed with some characters that they can make them fun even with all the system changes, what they did to characters like Dudley, Gouken, Gief and T.Hawk was perfect, more fun characters that are actually solid and stable now.

Exactly. That’s my main beef with the game - that this was the big chance to make every character strong or at least be on equal footing with EX dive kick bulls shizen. I’ve said it a hundred times but when characters have very strong area’s balance becomes harder to nail down and that should be the objective.

The fact that we can sit here and say X character is shit a month after release is sad.

I don’t understand why the fuck they decided to nerf everyone from the earlier builds. If you look back at the Super Arcade matches, you see most of the characters with really strong stuff, and the game looked really exciting and enjoyable.

Things like Sagat fst.lk cancel, Gief hkd on EX green hand, Fuerte EX guac hitting standing characters, Makoto jump cancel EX Fukiage on block (probably a little op but fuck it) etc. With slight tweaking to further make characters even stronger, that build would’ve been a perfectly fun and enjoyable game.

Instead though, they decided to make 80% of the characters boring and weak, while buffing most of the characters that were already strong (seriously, what the actual fuck).

alot of the times I cant stand usf4 but its not horrid just improperly beta tested.

You’re beta testing it right now. Capcom just didn’t tell you.

I’m scared of Gief getting nerfed with another patch, tbh. Same with Hawk.

Because everyone goes nuts if character X get that buff instead of their main. People asked more for nerfs and this game is what we deserved.

Cause Ken for example would be a lot stronger, and would ruin the game. A lot more than a character that can divekick his way in or yolo if that doesn’t work.

Nah not really, people just cry too much. The same people who are now saying Yun was perfectly fine in AE2012, were saying he sucked before, hence why they dropped him. Technically most people got what they asked for, they better hold it.

The reason Ryu is ranked so low is because he simply does not have enough fire power to compensate for the DWU and DP FADC nerfs, nor does he now have any relevant mixup potential, nor did he receive any significant buffs to his zoning or fundamentals. You can play solid for 3/4 of the match then eat one combo and be in a bad position where its really hard to make a come back. He is obviously weaker in USF4 IMO. Consider Blanka on the other hand. Higher damage, better pressure, added mixup ability, safe reversal. It really is not surprising that Blanka is ranked higher.

Yeah, I mained Yun in 2012, and I laughed at people who thought he was bad. I thought he was pretty damn good, and I only asked for slight buffs (target combo from far lp, air tc hitting everyone’s focus, better juggle on U2, better damage on mk upkicks, overhead airborne and invincible to lows a few frames sooner) but they gave him more derp instead of making him more fundamentally solid which blows my mind.

I honestly thought Ryu was going to be pretty damn good in Ultra, but the system changes hurt him more than I expected. While I never really expected DWU to necessarily help him too much considering he already had 3F dp, I didn’t think about the fact that his safe jump game would be hurt so much. I also thought that cr.mk xx hadoken would be a true blockstring from max range as well, but that isn’t how it worked out.

Well that and like Daigo said, many anti-fireball moves counter Ryu so well, even better than other fireball characters. He doesn’t have very fast fireball recovery like Guile or Gouken nor does he have walk speed like Akuma or a step kick like Ken to get in faster. He doesn’t have damage unless he scores a jump in or you screw up by whiffing a DP in front of him. Now with DWU, he’s purely fundamentals now since even his ghetto set ups aren’t guaranteed anymore. His play style doesn’t make him bad, but it’s probably not good enough to win majors.

People were a bit premature, when they thought, which characters will be hurt by DWU and who will benefit from it. They were always thinking about characters, who are known for their setups(Or how you would call it), rather than their setups.

But the thing is that many of them got buffs to their already good neutral game or even have now new setups. Also DWU also helps them a bit. Another thing is, even characters, who aren´t known for being setplay heavy are a bit hurt by it, since their own setups are also affected by DWU.

Can’t believe people didn’t realize the DWU impact on Ryu.

In the Ryu vs Blanka matchup Japanese Blanka players forced me to give up on cr.mk hadou because they would just do EX ball thru it every time. That buff is for all intents and purposes useless.

DWU affects more than his safe jumps. He loses a 4 way mixup (if you count the DP FADC nerf), pressure, pushback and meter build. Most of his buffs require meter, but DP FADC now requires 3 bars to guarantee safety in most matchups so its fair to say the buffs are worthless especially considering that he gets fewer opportunities to build meter since they virtually removed his oki game.

Odd that Akuma and Dhalsim are the same tier…

(Im stealing the chart)

On another note I feel that oni, sakura, and poison should move to upper C and for sakura low B tier because sakura probably has ways to combat DWU, and for poison DWU doesn’t affect her much (In fact I think DWU only allows her to start her fireball pressure or set up a meaty LMT to continue pressure). Im really unsure about rose in the long run.

I feel like just like poison, characters that can bully rose can give her a terrible time. Yes Rose now has average damage options but I feel that someone who is confident in his or her option selects can possibly run a freight train on her. DWU does help her but then again people are finding ways to adjust to it so possibly in the long run it wont be as effective as it is now imo.

It seems more like they put tournament viable characters in B or above and the characters that got nerfed pretty badly in C with the hopeless characters in D.

3 of those characters in D are new characters. Good job Capcom. So much for those location tests. Turned characters that were looking fun and decent/good into characters that are booty butt cheeks. I had hopes for deejay that Capcom was actually trying to make him better and the fact that he was ass was just an accident. Capcom has clearly showed how much they care about deejay.

It’s a month in lol

Yun is probably the only exception. Cammy as she is right now is well balanced and most characters feel viable with the exception of Deejay I guess.

Nemo just beat Fuudo in some japanese tournament with Rollento lol. Give the game some time man.
