Xian almost beat momochi, execution error realy fucked him up. And momochi won the whole thing. I dislike all the nerfs, I don’t think he’s top 10 but you can definetly see he’s tournament viable. There were two gen’s in top 16 with a bunch of top japanese players there too. Can we just please stop it here with this bias bullshit? I dislike the nerfs too but c’mon. He’s still good.
Edit: Just curious, what if Xian won the whole thing? Would you be going off about how gdlk he is?
I’m sorry Gen got fucked but you’re being ridiculous.
I’ll add to the debate that Bonchan/Fuudo/Tokido/Xian don’t suddenly get worse because their character get’s nerfed, this is a dumb line of thought. My next point would be this tourney is as fresh as you can get and would be played closer to AE than Ultra in terms of match up development.
Not saying these characters are not strong, but I don’t think you can read too much into tier lists when half of the best Street Fighter players in the entire world finish at the sharp end of the first tourney. It would have been more of a story if they didn’t.
It’s like Blanka’s hori ball. It’s not always punishable even with perfect timing. And sometimes the punish will fail if you do it as a reversal - you have to do it slightly later. There are several factors - screen position, which part of the ball is blocked, and whether it’s blocked standing or crouching.
Yet another “Because SF4” thing. So dumb that it’s a square hitbox that rotates. ~_~ should either be 3 squares offset at 45degree angles on top of each other to simulate a circle to an extent that way you are far far less likely to run into instances where you hit on a flat edge instead of a corner. Or be a static not rotating hitbox.
A hitbox like this would result in FAR less instances of randomness where you can’t be consistently sure that a move is punishable or not or requires it be punishable with different circumstances. It wouldn’t be PERFECT, there’d probably still be instances of it being slightly different (since it’s still not a circle) but it’d be reasonably consistent and accurate unlike just a rotating square.
Why not make it just a static square though, why does it have to rotate? I’d put in a diagram with a graph but I’m working on my theory that light can escape a black hole and I don’t have time for that shit.
Edit: I just re read your post. I will take 15 lashings with a USB cord.
I get it perfectly. The balls he was blocking were all punishable by reversal heavy DP. Feel free to rewatch the match or post it if its on YouTube. Sketch vs scrubbydan I believe.
They weren’t spaced. There was nothing special behind them. No specific block strings or spacing tricks. He was just doing ball and getting away with it.
I think akuma might end up being the best character in the game again. Or at least the one with the most even or favourable matchups and close to none where he is at disadvantage.
Sure, yun, viper and cammy might look stronger and they probably have more advantaged matchups, but they also have more disadvantaged ones. Yun for example sucks vs the 3 grapplers, is at a slight disadvantage vs. shotos etc.
Akuma is just well rounded, too bad for the lowest stun rating in the game, otherwise i’d have no doubts
Maybe. I mean even with that I think Yun and Evil Ryu are the best with Cammy Viper and Akuma bringing up the rear. Who does Akuma lose to? Cammy Yun Yang still early but I wager Decapre given her ability to chase air fireballs and teleport. Granted it’s not as bad as say Yun vs grapplers but I think those got a bit better given the burst he can put out with red focus.
I didn’t see the matches, but I know there was at least one time Nyanshi did reversal TU and it whiffed. To be fair, I can’t remember which version he used, but the spacing for a safe ball isn’t that hard to obtain. Two (or 3, I forget) blocked standing LP’s vs crouching Sagat and then LP Ball is completely safe. After f.throw, MP ball is safe. EDIT: For completeness, b.throw, walk forward HP ball is safe. You can use it as a fake out as well.
As a Blanka player, after a while it becomes easy to eyeball when a hori-ball will be safe. The only thing you have to worry about is if the opponent walks slightly back before the ball comes out. But in Blanka and Rolento’s case you end up with whiff ball into throw.
Yeah evil ryu will be a strong contender, i’m not sold on cammy yet. She lost lots of damage and stun and her signature derp move (ex strike) got nerfed pretty bad (still one of the best ex moves in the game, but whatever). Also no more ch.cr fierce into ultra, and ultra damage nerfed, too
I definitely need to see more of her but she can build meter better, I think hooligan is actually legit on wakeup with strike being able to beat crouch attacks avoiding the fuzzy and do nothing to throw or frametraps being a thing and her frame traps are still really good meaning her throw game is still strong with the same setups as ever (she has an 11 frame kill right?). If she’s not still up there she’s at least high tier still. I think more people will just have to play footsies with her.
Yeah. Those are set up balls. The match I’m talking about was in top 32. He was doing them from neutral. And I’m pretty sure it was heavy ball from half to 3/4 screen.
I know you can make them safe but my previous statement was in reference to a high level match where random balls were not punished
