its a very real character, and this ultra may or may not exist already. im just wondering if an existing character has this along with a bunch of already solid tools, can this character be bottom 10. and its not dan deejay or sim
Of course the character can be bottom tier if all his other tools are complete ass. Gen was not S tier or anything in AE, he was B+. Do you seriously think that swapping one ultra you can combo into, while on top of that nerfing nearly ALL his other tools makes sure that he stays in the same place? If so youre delusional. The only reason he might not end up bottom 10 at the end of the day would be because other characters received even worse nerfs or simply not enough buffs.
No one says that the character is unplayable because sure as hell isnt. But I simply cant understand why its so hard to grasp that people are so pissed about the fact that a mid tier character is being nerfed for no good reason. Remove some of the gimmicks, thats cool. But what they did to Gen, Oni, Deejay simply is impossible to explain, especially when you look at the buffs characters like fucking Yang and Viper received. Its a gigantic joke, nothing else, but unfortunately we have to swallow it up and move on.
Yes, that character could be bottom 10. No guarantee of converting on grey damage or stun means your often better off with an ultra that does damage. Plus in block still means your ultra just got blocked.
Invincible 8f move that is plus on block on a solid character.
I think you underestimate what you can do with that tool whether it deals grey damage or not.
I don’t think he’s bottom tier without it.
I suppose when Xian keeps on getting top 8s or winning tourneys it will be because of Xian alone, and have nothing to do with Gen not being bottom 10. Right?
I really don’t agree with Gouken being bottom 10, for sure. He has everything he needs to be scary, except for the walk speed. But he has tons of other mobility tools, anyway.
Gen… I didn’t know his punch U2 was safe on block. I never thought that was a good Ultra to begin with and was just used as the icing for his kick U2. Why would I let go of guaranteed damage over a guessing game that is gonna involve scaled white damage? Well, the kick version seems pretty good against fireballs and probably an ambiguous cross-up situation.
I recall Gen gets combo’d pretty good for a low vitality/stun character. He has a safe-jumpable DP at 5-frames, but at least it is fast enough to contend with DWU tactics. It can’t be FADC, but that is punishable now anyway. Is he better than similar(ish) mid/upper tier characters like Adon, Sakura, Ibuki, Vega who can do a lot of what he can do if he is not biding his time building meter for super/Ultra I combos?
I can’t tell if his oki is still going to be very strong with quickrise off of gekiros… ex gekiro mix-ups are probably gonna be weakened because of DWU a lot, so maybe quick-rise set-ups are more reliable anyways. If he just has average oki and a good poke game (in his slower stance) while he waits to build super, but no awesome oki after using it… I think he is a lot weaker.
Otherwise, I can’t tell what else makes him stand out? The cast is good… Maybe Gen is not bottom 10, but what does he do better than anyone else now? I dunno.
So the properties are:
7f start-up, 7f invincible, +2 on block (the glitched version only), juggles fully on airborne opponents, does gray damage (443), does stun damage (450 when ultra meter is 75% or higher, 300 when less), does around 20 chip on block, whiffs on some slides and low profiles.
Oh, that could have cool applications off Guile’s D/F HK. If he lands a jump-in that is an easy confirm into a ~500 dmg 715 stun knockdown. He could probably stun a lot of the cast in 2 or 3 hits after the knockdown (Akuma with a throw). Maybe even KO if he has enough meter.
I dunno if the risk reward is that great compared to guaranteed damage unless I can actually manage to set-up a stun situation.
He might have one from Cl. F + HK but the scaling is gonna be worse to build up stun.
It would be really neat, and I might use it instead of Sonic Hurricane if I were a Guile player… Pressure would be scarier, because 1 or 2 guesses is a stun that could lead to KO. But considering 75% ultra is kind of late in the game to land a jump-in, I might consider that a long-shot. I guess it would give him come-back factor though.
He could also use it as anti-air since it’s command.
Would that move him out of bottom 10? IMO, I don’t really think so…
Edit: Just fantasizing, but Chun could definitely put that stun to good use… sigh
