Gouken I understand why they gave him a 3F crLP as his game from lights was severely lacking. The thing is that NONE of his light attacks are more than +3F on hit and he didn’t have any 3F normals besides close MK. This meant that he could ONLY chain normals out of lights and then nothing. With a 3F crLP he can actually special cancel a light attack hit confirm.
Now I don’t understand why they gave Ibuki a 3F crLP or why Sakura got to keep her chainable 3F crLK when they took it away from Fei and Cammy. I also really don’t understand why they took away Fei’s crLK chain into itself when they decided to also increase startup to 4F. Even with the buff to +4F on hit the fact is that nerfing it from 3F to 4F was enough of a nerf to the move, especially since his crLP can’t really replace it in many situations since his pushbox means his crLP pushes him really far back.
Goukens light confirm from jabs is a one framer and a sticky one at that. It’s not game changing it just means he’s able to fend off getting assaulted with faster normals. He’s also one of the main characters suscptible to getting thrown a lot ( or at least he was).
Goukens buffs are legit, I feel like the guy that fixed Gouken up was just filling in that day because the main change guy had a sick day off to get another suitcase of his meds.

Because they wanted to butcher his back dash option selects and close pressure as well. Play Fei for a few matches and you’ll realise how enormously situational his new links are. They made his crouching bnb easier but most players had that down already.
I’d take having a useful option, even a difficult to do one over not having a useful option at all. It’s infinitely better IMO. It’d be one thing if like it was heavily situational (like if they had made Gouken’s close sLP 3F so he could only do like clsLP - clsLP - crLP - special and he’d only be able to do it point blank but with it being crLP it’s a consistently available and useful (though difficult to perform) option.
Viper DP is 7 frames start up ( ER is 3 ) and also -5 on fadc now, her DP is also considerably worse and lose to a bunch of shit / get low profiled easily.
She also become very limited once she fight people who can lower their hitbox reliably.
I was thinking more about how disruptive a mashed 3 frame move is rather than gouken’s hitconfirms from lights. From this point of view it was indeed a well deserved buff.
I’m just salty on how annoying it is to pressure him having acess to so many defensive options, being good at zoning on top of all that.
Of course, just pointing out that it’s not really something you would say is a big deal against for players on the other side, if anything he’s due it, almost every character has some sort of hit confirm from lights that does mid hundred damage even if it’s a link into a heavier normal. It just expands him out a little.
He still has his weaknesses, he can just protect himself better. Characters like Yun I’d imagine will still rape him hard.
EX seísmo, and the occasional ex Bk still better than that horrible teleport. Viper players gonna just have to learn how to block.
I’m really liking the Juri st.mp buff, helps a lot with keeping on pressure.
