Nope. I think she is in the upper echelon of characters, but ain’t no way in fucking hell that she is top 3. At best top 10 if you are asian.
And yes, I think Rufus is better than her. Obvious tournament results aside, he’s got a dive kick with no height restriction, he has an ultra that he can combo into off of fucking anything, and he’s got an invincible gtfo reversal that beats out most other invincible moves in the game including ultras. If i was just trying to win a tournament and I had to pick between the 2 of them, I’d pick Rufus hands down.
Interesting. Why do you feel Cody’s new BD helps him so much in this? It’s practically the same as Deejays now almost and I can’t think of many situations where Cody really NEEDS the BD in this MU. He doesn’t need to BD to bait reversals from Deejay like Cody does with some characters.
Cody -> 0.85 distance 26F total 13grounded recovery frames
Deejay -> 0.9 distance 27F total 10 grounded recovery frames
Cody I think might move out of the way a little faster now than Deejay but has a lower to the ground jump and lots more grounded recovery while Deejay has 1 more frame total but a bit more distance and far less grounded frames.
They are both shit, though I don’t think Cody’s is “arguably the worst in the game” like it was in AE2012 it’s still bad but there are definitively worse BDs now like Sagat’s, and dry Hakans who are unquestionably worse despite having more airborne frames they either have WAY more recovery frames (Sagat) or travel far lest distance (Hakan). Though Cody’s focus (or EX focus) backdash is still the worst in the game (shorter even dry Hakan by a lot. Around 0.5 distance)
What about Cody’s new BD makes it so important in the MU? As for Deejay’s zoning is less rewarding I don’t see how. Deejay’s zoning does more chip now and he can punish whiffed attempts to get in slightly better. What I think is weaker about Deejay’s zoning in this is that Cody’s forward walk speed got buffed so Cody can more easily walk forward, block, walk forward and close the distance meaning Deejay gets less time to zone at all. Is that what you mean?
Ibuki near top placements in 2012:
Sako:
1st place in Topanga
3rd Place in Topanga 2
1st Place in Topanga Asian League
1st place in Thaiga Uppercut 2013
F-Word:
4th in Dreamhack 2012
5th in Dreamhack 2013
4th in Hypespotting 3
Saunic:
5th in Republic of Fighters 3
7th in SF 25th Paris
“Only clakeyD/sako” also placements don’t make a character S tier. Tools make a character strong. Players make a character win. Ricky and Justin show up to almost every tournament and do extremely well with Rufus and often are in top 8. Doesn’t mean Rufus is S tier.
Lastly, Ibuki got almost exclusively buffs (and most of them are legit useful ones unlike some chars gimmicky shit or super compensation nerfed stuff like Deejay knee shot) , still has her vortex to a large extent (she can react to DWU mid air), has amazing footsies already that are underutilized, and many of her harder MUs got easier thanks to DP FADC nerf and her buffs to walk speed + more damaging neutral game.
EX Tatsu hits overhead
70 damage fireballs
walkspeed increased
Safe thunder kick
Faster U2
Combo into UKD (Sim isn’t a threat on wake up)
I know Dhalsim got some buffs but they gave Ken a bunch of stuff he needs to make things miserable for Sim.
The corner carry is also another factor.
I noticed it is much easier for Ken to corner opponents now. I saw NGL Chris do this to velociraptor quite a few times.
I think THawk may now be the fastest meter building character in the game. LK Spire = 30 meter on whiff with only 30F total frame count on whiff. I think Hakan doing absolute frame perfect oil dive -> guard position cancels might be equal to Hawk but it’d be close and Hawk would be a lot more consistent. Even Juri doing fireball stores as fast as possible can’t keep up (30F total 20meter gain)
Hugo is pretty damn fast at it too. Just for whiff meter building purposes I think Hakan has it best as he’s staying still while doing it. Hugo and especially Hawk get better mileage out of their stuff in blockstrings. Hugo also seems to be only building 20 meter on whiff. Took 13 whiff claps to get an EX bar.
EDIT: whiff LK lariat builds meter like crazy, I think it’s 40 on whiff. That one has quite a bit of recovery though.
Uhm,I don’t understand you,you mean if she can’t high jump cancel moves into ultra (because she can) or if she can’t combo off normal moves without high jump cancels? (cuz she never could, except for meaties setup and some really specific mid meaty combos)
oh ok sorry lol still comboing into ultra is a little bit harder for Ibuki,I mean yeah, she can confirm into ultra ‘‘easily’’,but rufus does much better
Hugo MP clap is 20meter on startup 28F total. LK Lariat is 40 meter but 45F total still slower than THawk.
After watching some of that taito station footage posted earlier, it seems like Cody v Sagat still a tough match for Cody, reliant heavily on big gambles from Cody and mistakes from Sagat to win, especially with the threat of Cody’s U2 being reduced. HOWEVER, it also seems like the threat of Sagat anti airing at all is just… bleh. Cody just jumping in with impunity because the nerf to Sagat’s U1 and U2 damage as well as step kick damage means that the reward for getting in against Sagat is about equal or greater now than the risk of getting anti aired by Sagat. And Cody’s forward walk speed means Sagat can’t really pin Cody down as long anymore like he can in AE2012.
It looks closer than it did in AE2012 but still solidly in Sagat’s favor I think. I’m curious to see how this MU will evolve as people get more and more used to the changes. I think it might shift closer to even. I don’t think it’ll ever not be in Sagat’s favor but I could see it growing to be even eventually.
It’s only if you’re using it on the way up. There is no reason you should be getting that tatsu that gets stuck unless you’re trying to use it to escape. Otherwise it’s exactly the same as Super SFIV. Why is is this in the tier list discussion?
I feel that Dudley is definitely upper mid tier. It’s hard to whiff punish and stay consistent with 1 framers online, so his matchups can get skewed. By design of his character, lag hurts him more than anyone else in this game. If dudley is up against a character with good pokes (rose, chun, bison, vega) his main gameplan would be to bait and whiff punish (moreso than most characters), which is way harder to do online. Aside from that he has always been pretty good, and now he’s really good
