To be fair Snake Eyez lost a lot of health, and probably even rounds, because he refused to jump amnesty from the squashers. That’s the toe of shit you get hit with maybe 2 or 3 times, but he continuously fell for it even after like 7-8 whole games. When he finally started to react to them, he was already mindfucked and it cost him the tourney. Even though that matchup if pretty rough for Gief, it’s sad/funny to see a character that Infil never ever pulls out, beat a guy who has been top 8 in basically every tourney he’s entered with his (practically) only character.
And I think I’ve figured out how he does it. If I were to guess, he probably watches a lot of footage of the respective characters’ best players, then uses his already vast knowledge to deeply analyze their game plan (their spacing, why they make the decisions they do, how the opponents tend to react most of the time etc.) He then probably Fucks around with the character in training mode and casuals for a week or two, and since he already has a decent grasp on how the character should be played, he can use his game/player knowledge and fundamentals to have a semi-tournament ready character.
In theory, anyone who already knows the game well enough, has solid fundamentals, and great analytical skills could do this to learn a character extremely fast. Most people just don’t put in the work, or don’t know how to maximize their usage of time.
Yeah, the information is all out there. It’s not impossible, if somebody else wanted to do it.
It’s risky and you have to know when to do it, but it might not matter so much if you’ve already qualified and are just looking for a good time, like Infiltration.
Those final standings at First Attack are exactly how I’d rank those players in terms of player skill.
Too bad that Ricky, Rog and JWong couldn’t make it to shake that tournament up a little.
Speaking of which, where IS Jwong? Does he play anything anymore at all? It’s like he just disappeared from the radar, haven’t been to a single MKX tourney since like CEO, and I don’t even remember if he was at EVO this year
Infiltration streamed himself just playing training mode a few time, mostly while learning / refining Decapre. He just seems to practice stuff in the lab for a LOT longer than most pros. Where a lot of players play a ton of online during their time at home, he just seems to allocate way more time to training mode.
Also, it looks like to me that Infiltration always really enjoy using the characters he’s playing. I don’t believe he’s learning characters thinking " this character might be useful against this character / this player “. I really think it’s more of a " This character looks fun, I want to learn to play it” situation. Which explains a lot for characters like Juri, Hakan, Abel, Gouken or Hugo.
I do think he learns characters because they look fun, but even then, he’s still playing good matchups all the time. He never picks a “fun” character in one of that “fun” character’s bad matchups.
He knows what he’s doing when he picks a character vs a particular matchup or player.
Yeah of course. I should have implied that.
He learns characters because he likes them, but then in tournaments he doesn’t force a character, he just has them available if he want to try it.
