With that much money involved, you take what you get.
Keep in mind Momochi **just **lost a round due to a technicality, that’ll screw with you as much as it would the opponent. Would’ve taken a lot of mental strength to maintain his nerve, take control of that situation and close out the round the way he did. If you can’t respect that then I don’t know what to say.
I think she counter’s Elena either way. Get the life lead then do nothing. I don’t understand why Infiltration still kept throwing fireballs when he was in the lead.
i agree with that as well, he needed to stop throwing fireballs. Seth Killian at least made it seem like perhaps chun isnt a counter, but she definitely is. u1 or ucw preferred
It’s not about taking what you can get, Gamerbee had no choice:
A teammate asked gamerbee real quick what happened and it confirmed my suspicion, Gamerbee didn’t even want to take it. This is a man who has spent 5 years working real hard creating a scene in his country and travelling, he didn’t want to finally take evo thanks to a pause, and that pause ended up breaking his momentum really hard.
It’s not momochi’s fault, but it’s not gamerbee’s either. It was really heartbreaking and it’s really tough to see that because if you’ve remotely followed the scene in the past 5 years you’d know how much shit he has gone through like barely not getting into capcup last year or losing to infil all over his dominant year. This was his moment, he was playing the best SF I’ve ever seen from him and it all went to shit in a pause. It could have gone either way, but damn.
to be fair, i don’t really feel sorry for infiltration not answering that healing stuff. he would’ve done the same. he’s a great player and a master of a number of characters, but i’ve seen him play rolento/akuma/decapre lamer than anyone else. sf4 is just a very defensive game i guess. i’m glad we are moving on to sf5. i think i’ll even enter evo next year.
also, i wonder how many of those people who are saying “gamerbee was robbed, this was supposed to be his year” were the same ones booing him the game beforehand. what happened to him was shitty, no doubt about it, but there was a hell of a lot of boos for the way he was playing elena.
Infil might just not have wanted to give Gamerbee the ability to put him in more high low mixups if he sat there. Still, those fireballs were questionable after a point.
The stick pause killed everything though. It was such a wait that it was like EVO was settled in an entirely new FT1 with one round.
I think Momochi would have won, he was looking more comfortable by the end, but we’ll never know.
i’ve already seen a couple of pauses in sf5 too (people pressing the record button thinking it works like a start button etc). i wonder if what just happened in usf4 finals will force capcom’s hand so there’s an option to disable pausing in sf5.
on another note, if there was another balance patch for usf4, maybe giving elena’s ultra 2 white health might make it a bit more fair?
Or make Healing her super and her super her U2. That would make more sense.
She’d never get to heal anymore but I don’t think anyone would complain about that.
IMO the best option and the easiest to implement would be to give everyone access to Ultra only once per round. It should have been this way from the start.
Imo the whole last game should’ve been restarted, since it seemed like the pause was unintentional, and out of momochi’s control due to a stick malfunction. I’m not sure it’s fair to penalize a player for something that’s not their fault, and then also bring it to sudden death while having the other player lose his momentum. Momo probably would’ve won either way, but now we’ll never know.
I’m sure Infil kept throwing firebalss while he was in the lead, because he got blown up by mixups a few times after he allowed Elena to get closer and play more offensively. The only change I would’ve made if I were him, would be to rock U1 or UCW to make healing useless.
PR Rog disappointed me with his Rolento matchup knowledge. Nemo was doing really well don’t get me wrong, but he made so many mistakes with easily readable rolls, and Rog had neither an OS or a block punish on deck. Aiai and Bee showed how you’re supposed to shit Rolento down once you get going. Obviously Balrog doesn’t have offense on par with Juri/Adon, but he definitely has counters and is a tough matchup for Rolento nonetheless.
Basically nothing about top 8 was surprising at all, as pretty much any of the players could’ve won on a good night. The only surprising thing that could’ve happened imo, would be if Du actually beat Gamerbee which would’ve been a pretty big upset honestly. Was a good EVO to send SF4 off on, hopefully sf5 is as hype as this game had been to watch over the years.
Oh my fucking god no I’m heartbroken. I just caught it on VOD and Gamerbee ran through absolute fucking hell to get that Grand Final and I really feel as though he was completely stripped of his mental fortitude with that break between the controller issue. What an absolutely horrible way for it to end, I feel so bad for him.
I was surprised with how Rog handled Nemo, had no direct counters to Rolento at all.
Infiltration vs. Gamerbee was so strange, he continued to throw fireballs although he was barely gaining bar or anything worthwhile and Elena was just stocking U2 again and again and again? What a fucking gauntlet of a set though.
I REALLY would have liked to see that last game get restarted or fuck even the set after that, the breakdown mentally that would cause would be ridiculous, and to simply have them unpause and thrown into a sudden death all or nothing? Seems kinda bullshit. Cannot stress how bad I feel for Bruce about that entire thing, if that stick malfunction hadn’t of occurred, I feel as though the momentum he had was enough to pull him through. One of the biggest if not the biggest upset I’ve ever seen at EVO.
