Smug badly needs a secondary to deal with bad matchups like Juri or Chun and something for serious instead of Hawk. I guess Yun would fit his style although that may put prove highly unpopular.
Speaking of it, how does public perception and popularity affect the pros’ character choices? Justin picked Rufus to avoid the lame stigma and Sako probably learned Elena to avoid being taken as one more of the Evil Ryu bandwagoners. There are tier whores of course, but at this point I suspect Alioune and K-Brad regret having played Cammy since they are still paying the price for it (not that it affects them personally but sponsorship and support become harder to get).
Yeah i never said Abel didn’t have footsies. His footsies are pretty strong. But he isn’t winning without his mix ups.
The whole game plan is make contact with step kick, go into mix up, or finish the combo.
Strider is a really talented player. But you can only guess right so many times vs the best in the world on blocked step kicks and knockdowns. Eventually one of them reads the mix up correctly enough times for you to lose. Like I said, Abel mixups aren’t the win win variety. A wrong guess means he eats heavy damage. It isn’t correctly blocking a dive kick at +15 or whatever.
Look at the characters who have won Evo. All really solid neutral control characters. It’s a gameplan that produces on a consistent basis. They could all win rounds completely from neutral without ever going into a mix up. It’s a lot easier to fine tune a strategy for correcting neutal game errors than it is to guess better.
I dunno. I just don’t think you would ever see the unsafe mix up character being able to close out a tournament where the top 15 players are all world class.
Did anybody upload the matches that were played on the old version? Just wanted to watch them again but all these dudes that ripped the stream and uploaded matches doesn’t seem to care to upload those matches. Which is too bad because there was some good stuff from it. Especially the double KO in the Kaz/Knuckledu match.
Played Elena to avoid the stigma of a bandwagon? Irony!
Also I don’t even think Juri Dudley is that bad for Dudley. Once he has u1 she can’t fireball basically. Even store can be punished full screen and he messes her up on wakeup. Potentially eating a pinwheel is usually worth the risk since a combo after the knockdown will probably put her at one mixup from stun. It was her advantage in 1.03 because of the meter she built on top of everything else letting her ex pinwheel fadc after most knockdowns as long as she wasn’t storing close enough to get cr.mked. It may even be even now. Probably still slight Juri advantage. Nothing worth counterpicking over.
Totally agree. Using a read based character is stressful when used in long tournaments, that’s why none of them have winning any major, not in SF4 era. They are strong for sure (I use one of them), but they are far from being solid.
His Akuma’s gotten back to any kind of form only lately. For the recent past it’s been pretty shoddy and kind of grasping in the dark. Been getting better again lately, but still a far cry from his form in 2012 or the sharpness of Tokido’s current Akuma.
Well look at the history of the characters he’s used, every time he picks a character and does well with ______ everyone starts picking up that character then it becomes a bandwagon. Ibuki, rose, cammy, evil Ryu and Elena have all become overused
