Ultra sim sucks. he will only be viable in certain matchups. if you are serious about this game… learn a new main and have sim as an alt. suggested matches that he will go even or win in:
beyond that… you will likely get stomped in the top 16 or better at majors
Yeah it’s pretty sad. Not sure what Capcom was thinking in this version.
After so many versions you could see sim wasn’t going to change drastically. The buff of st.bf makes sim to actually have a true string which was one of sim’s weakness. Ex flame having juggle properties is interesting and hopefully create new setups.
EX flame afterhit doesn’t work like I thought it would. Its way too spacing dependant. If have to be right by the oppponent with a normal cancelled into EX flame to get b.mk or st.mp to hit. St.lk is more consistent, but the damage is pitiful. What shitry buff. +2 on guard is nice though.
I think he may be the worst character in the game. Every other low tier got useful buffs. Sim has remained the same and his bad matchups have gotten worse for the most part. He’s also had new bad match ups introduced most likely.
Its disgusting what Capcom has done with Sim. The sad part is that they didnt even experiment with new buffs for the character. They had a a year and change to try and work on his glaring flaws and all they could come up with was two hit mk. And then they take it away in the final version because scrubs complain about one match video vs hugo. Ever since that buff came out, Sim players have said that thats not exactly what he needs. However, in the last couple of months before Ultra it was pretty clear Sim was going to be bad. So they should’ve at least let him keep that tool just to give him SOMETHING new to play with. It would’ve helped alot vs Makoto, Bison, Chun, Fei and others who can focus dash Sim’s limbs all day.
What a wasted opportunity.

A bunch of people complained because it helped in a match up against Hugo. Bloody HUGO! I mean, a few months ago I was reading about people saying he was one of the worst characters in Ultra and people got upset that a bloody grappler couldn’t fight a ZONING character!?

Im already mainning Hugo. Dhalsim will be my alt. I played only Dhalsim since vanilla SFIV, but now im finally tired of mainning him…
Capcom does not want Zoners to be good because the new school get discouraged/pissy when they can’t get in. They never intended for Sim to shine in Ultra.
I had my suspicions up when FChamp and all the Sim players staged a walkout at Final Round 17 haha
I think the only advantage Sim has in SF4 is the “Gen factor”; where opponents just haven’t taken the time learning the MU

This is so disappointing, I don’t even know where to start.

Already posted my thoughts on the standing mk topic. Half the changes are insignificant buffs (m. yoga blast reduced a whopping 1 frame, wtf <__<) and the other half are nerfs. I wouldn’t hesitate to say he’s low tier now :l.
Not low tier, It seems a little bit better than 2012, so It’s still a mid.
But Sim still has some broken matchup, so ppl will pick him in tournament just for fun.
Although my heart wants to say Sim is ass, my head says differently.
I can’t watch Mochi tear apart everybody who joins in that video, while chatting away about matchups with Kazunoko, and think Sim is low tier. And don’t tell me he’s playing scrubs, because I’m sure they are better than the folks you play online.
When I think about how I play, and then watch Mochi, who rarely uses EX moves and lands a super in nearly every round, I have to blame myself. He has flawless execution and everything is spaced perfectly.
I never knew mk slide into lk slide ->super was a combo, when I first saw Mochi land that I assumed it was off a counter hit, so I practiced it that way, turns out its just a combo.
My point is that Sim has the easiest to land super in the game by FAR, and it does big damage, Mochi’s game plan is always to get super and land it as quickly as possible. As soon as he has it the dives and slides come out, now that I know it’s possible I see him fishing for that mk slide super combo whenever hes stocked. Now that I’ve started playing more like that I’m winning far more. Plenty of you probably already play that way I’m sure but it was just a wakeup call for me to realise how stuck in my ways i’d become blaming Sim.
Until I can perform like that, I won’t be blaming Sim anymore. And I wish that we could all just come together and stockpile our knowledge to make the best of him, as fellow Sim players I wish we could all get up and have a knowledge gangbang instead of a whine, but this site sees zero positive discussion anymore and it makes me sad. I believe this character has so many odd little quirks and tricks that if you know them all, you can make it damn hard for anybody to beat you.

YHC is probably the best Sim player out there. You can do incredible things with lower tier characters. With that said, I agree with P2W and I don’t think Dhalsim is viable. This is online play, but what about tournaments? YHC is the only Sim in the top 100 Japanese arcade rankings last time i checked.
Let’s look at some other Sim players:
TS Sabin has done well but he doesn’t fool around with bad match-ups. He has Rose, and as of late he considers playing her more because she’s really good this version.
Fchamp has done well since Super. Even passively quite the game. Looks like he may not even fool around with Sim this version.
LuckyD I think is currently the best Sim player. Just for the reason that he has been able to place decently and even in the face of bad match-ups. Even he is flirting with the idea of an alt.
I see it this way, if you want to really compete at tournaments and you don’t have 8 hours a day to dedicate to Sim, it’s better to pick another character. it take less effort to get to the same level with other characters. Your skill has to be high enough to make up for this characters deficiency.
Okay enough with the negative. Dhalsim is still decent against Rose and Chun which I believe are strong in this game and we will see more of them. Sim as a secondary is not a bad idea.
Me, personally, I don’t think I’ll stop playing Sim… maybe one day I’ll just stickchucker.
TL:DR Sim takes a lot of effort to be a main, but having decent match-ups against Rose and Chun make him a viable alt.
Everybody ignore Mochi’s success and his opinion that Sim is strong, it’s just because he has the time to practice.

This is a HUGE nerf to his gameplay. Its the final nail in the coffin…
And they didnt even put it in the changelog. So dissapointed with Capcom
