I really think Ken has the potential to be the next shoto in SSF4 if you just have passion to play him because I don’t think he have any bad match up’s but the only bad match up is playing against Zangielf… His potential is very good you just have to strategize every match up… I think Ken will be the next shoto taking Ryu spot keep up with the training players.
You should keep up with the English lessons as well.
Ken v. Gief is actually pretty even or slightly in Ken’s favor. 4-frame low forward, step kick, cr.hp and mp srk are all the tools you need to keep Gief off ya.
Ken owns geif
Ken > Gief
they all play so lame and it’s impossible to get in. help please!!!
Score a knockdown and cross up. EX cross up tatsus for the most part. You have to time it right with a sonic boom. Most importantly DO NOT get impatient. Safe jump ins and baiting Flash kicks works great too.
thank you!
Guile is one of the match ups where you have to be so patient, and then wait for the moment that you get in. It’s annoying but the best way to not get killed quickly feels like laming out. I mostly try to match him with fireballs whilst constantly taking steps forward as he continues to move backwards, until he’s pretty much in the corner. At this point most Guile’s will make an attempt to move forwards, and that’s when I’d try to get the knockdown - from a kara throw, combo or sweep. Like Shinebox said, crossing up after a knockdown works really well, as you avoid getting hit by flashkicks. I prefer to use lk tatsus and jumps to cross up just to save meter. Just try to land a combo that does decent damage to give you a life lead and make him have to think about offensive moves, and then you can pick him off. Also when you;re trying to get in on him, try to avoid jumping forwards unless you’re at a safe distance. It’s easy to get frustrated and then try to keep jumping to get to him quickly, and that’s when he can hurt you. Neutral jump should be your best friend in a Guile match up, then kara dash when you can to move forwards. Don’t play to his game, all Guiles pretty much just want you to jump over their sb’s so they can catch you with an air throw. There’s little variation to be honest with how Guiles play, so once you get used to playing patiently you should be fine with the match up.
9 or 10 blocked sonic booms = 1 c.mk in terms of damage
In other words, be patient. Avoid jumping right into him. Once you get in, cross-ups work wonders on Guile.
Yeah, Gief isn’t really a bad match up if you play it right. Use U2 and bait some ex green hands. Otherwise, smart hados, c.mk, and m.dp is more than enough to keep him off of you. Just to be safe, I never end my bnb with tatsu’s, only f.dp. I think non ex tatsu can get punished on hit so just remember not to do that.
How do you guys deal with Cammy’s ambiguous Cannon Strike after knockdown? I assume if it’s well timed you can’t SRK it, right? Is there some trick to knowing which way to block? Does Focus back-dash work? Or do you just have to guess?
After HK arrow knockdown there is 0.0001% chance that cammy will cross you up with a strike, unless it’s an EX strike or J.lk. However, all DPS whiffs. Just block the strike normally and you will have the frame advantage. If cammy does the strike lower to the ground so she would have the frame advantage on block, you can easily recognize the height and do a reversal Mp.DP to beat her strike.
After back throw, cammy can take a step forward and do a crossup hk strike. Its pretty ambiguous but the safest way out is focus > forward dash. Cammy’s unblockable after back throw is easy to do on ken, so be careful not to get back-thrown in the first place.
The arrow knockdowns significantly changed in AE, but her back-throw setups stays the same on shotos.
Thanks for the info! That should help a bit. And yes, I should’ve specified, sometimes it’s strike, sometimes EX strike, and sometimes j.LK. When you say the knockdowns differ in AE, does it mean these tips about the strikes change too? Also, didn’t even know about the back throw stuff. Sounds scary.
One thing that i always do against guiles is lure them into flash kick, after a knockdown i make them believe im going to pressure/meat the wake up by moving a lot close to them while they are on the ground and in the last moment block, they always do flash kick to get me off them, and then i just punish with cl.HK-> EX-Tatsu or throw.
I can’t beat Zangief. I can’t cross him. When Im waking up, it’s either I jump back, shoryuken, or block. the safest thing to do is jump back I think, but I can’t get any real dmg on him besides anti-airing him. My projectile recovery isn’t that great compared to the other shotos so I can’t shoot too close due to the range on his arms.
hard match up. basically ur job is to make sure he doesnt jump in, thats ur #1 concern. mp srk his jump ins or st.jab or st.lk. if ur really bad at anti airing just go ahead a waste a ex srk meter bar on him to make sure he doesnt jump in. i say waste it cuz if u land a ex tatsu yes ull hit him but ull end up land right next to him which is wut he wants. n ex fireballs are a waste. from there u play footies. AE ken has a better sweep now so u can play better footies with gief, and ur gonna want to use step kick too. but only use it as a poke and walk away on hit/block, dont try to follow up with any kind of move after u hit him with step kick cuz he wants u to get close to him. the only time u should follow up with something is if u have 2 meters so u can fadc a srk after step kick. throw out random standing jabs/cr. mp to beat his green hands. slow fireball from [SAFE] distance. If u ever knock him down dont cross him up just dash up to push him into the corner then back off, or just straight out space ur self when u knock him down.
if he does knock u down u have a few options (but risky options, which is why i emphasized not letting him jump in is ur #1 concern)
-if u see him jump over u late u can dash foward.
-if he knocks u down dont quick stand. theyll have to jump a 2nd time to correct thier timing and u can mp srk for free
-if he catches on then quick stand ;p
-and every once in awhile u can actually do jumping short on wake up to knock him out of the air and reset the situation.
(this is wut I usually do cant speak for others)
so basically ur goal is to out footies him. his ex green hand doesnt knock down anymore so he can only knock u down from a jump in or a roundhouse. the only real way to beat him is to play a lame boring patient game buts thats the only way. so next time u lose to a gief look at how he was able to knock u down. you’ll notice u only lose control of the match if he scores a knockdown.
hope that helps
PS: if u didnt know, learn how auto correct works with srk when ur waking up from a knock down, youll have to find a video on youtube about it or somthing.
to do the auto correct shoryuken he is talking about when your oponent crosses you up you do a dp but you end the motion in down backwards so if he crosses you up and he starts left and jumps to the right you would do a dp motrion to the left and then end in down back then punch hope this helps shed some light
jump back fierce on his wakeup.
jump back and st.fierce? what about st.roundhouse?
